Fight-In:

Rudi Lubbers vs Jan Lubbers - Not much to hang your hat on in this one as neither man was willing to mix it up. Rudi was the one to score the lone knockdown, but I still had it 7-7 even while Jason Wood had it 9-5 for Rudi. The judges scored it 7-7 even, 8-5 Jan, and 9-5 for Rudi thus a draw.

Rematch:

Rudi Lubbers vs Jan Lubbers - This one was actually exciting at times with both men trading leather with abandon. Jan built up a lead despite being cut in the 1st round and having it reopen several times. In the 8th Rudi landed a combination that put Jan down for the count.

Semi-Finals:

Jack DeMave vs Rudi Lubbers - Suprising action bout that had it going back and forth with Lubbers getting the better of it early on. Despite DeMave's frantic comeback in the last 3 rounds I had Lubbers with the upset 8-7 while Shane Macleod had it 8-7 for DeMave. The judges scores were 8-7 DeMave, 8-6 Lubbers & 8-7 Lubbers for the upset split decision.

Richel Hersisia vs Wim Snoek - Hersisia built up a solid lead with crisper punching and better ring movement and never looked back. I had it 9-6 Hersisia while Rocco Del Sesto had it 11-4 Hersisia. The judges scored the bout much closer at 8-7, 8-7 & 9-6 for Hersisia.

Final:

Rudi Lubbers vs Richel Hersisia - Hersisia came out with little respect for Lubbers, battering him for 2 rounds until the referee stepped in to stop it for the TKO with 6 seconds left in the 2nd round. Hersisia moves on to the World Tournament.

Light Heavyweights:

Final:

Alex Blanchard vs Rudi Koopmans - Good action early on when the referee inexplicitly stepped in with no warnings or cautions of any kind and disqualified Koopmans for a low blow! Blanchard qualifies for the World Tournament.

Nordin Ben-Sala moves to the World Tournamen at Super Middleweight with an automatic bid.

Middleweights:

3 fighters means that top seeded Raymond Joval recieves a bye.

Semi-Final:

Leen Jansen vs Harko Kokmeijer - Kokmeijer scored a knockdown in the 1st round and won the 2nd easily then was knocked out by a wicked left hand by Jansen in the 3rd!

Final:

Raymond Joval vs Leen Jansen - Jansen and Joval battled hard for the early ronds, but Joval faded in the final 5 to allow Jansen control before the referee ended the fight to save Joval from further damage with 15 seconds left in the 15th round. With the TKO win, Jansen moves on to the World Tournament.

Round 1:

Toakipa Tasefa vs Auckland Auimatagi - After 2 feeling out rounds Tasefa landed an explosive left hook that dropped Auimatagi for the count in the 3rd.

George Stankovich vs Tone Fiso - A spirited though one sided affair saw Fiso down 3 times but fighting well throughout. Stankovich was simply too strong however as he took the decision 10-2, 11-2, 10-3. I had it 11-2 and Tom Trunzo had it 10-1 both for Stankovich.

Junior Pati vs Rocky Salonoa - Sometimes the least talented fighters paired together create the most entertaining fights. This was one of those times as Pati & Salonoa went back and forth until Salonoa scored 2 knockdowns in the 14th to earn the TKO win. I had Salonoa up 8-4 while Richard Plunkett had Pati up 7-5. The judges scored it 7-6 Salonoa, 6-5 Pati and 8-4 Pati through 13.

Herbert Slade vs Richard Tutaki - A lopsided affair that saw Tutaki batter Slade throughout, nearly closing his right eye. It went the distance with me seeing it 13-1 Tutaki despite his losing a point for hitting and holding once too often.Lee MacRae had it 11-2. The judges scored it 10-3, 10-4, and 13-1 for Tutaki.

Teariki Terry Tuteru vs Bill Wilkinson - Close fight that saw both men have good moments at times. In the end it was cuts over both of Wilkinson's eyes that was the deciding factor as the ring doctor ordered the fight ended in the 8th round for the TKO.

Agreed, Mexico has several fighters that should be in medal contention at the World Tournament. Remember, there will be a Gold, Silver & 2 Bronze medals in each weight class, as in the Olympics.

Quarter-Finals:

Tom Heeney vs Rocky Salonoa - Heeney battered a game but over matched Salonoa from the opening bell, nearly closing his left eye and opening a reoccuring cut over the right eye. Somehow Salonoa took Heeney all the way, though I had it 13-1 Heeney and Jason Wood had it 12-1. The judges scored it 12-1, 12-1, 10-4 for Heeney.

Harry Laing vs Richard Tutaki - Laing started landing punches with bad intent from the opening bell, scoring knockdowns in the 1st and 2nd rounds before the referee had seen enough to protect Tutaki in the 2nd round for the TKO.

Shane Cameron vs Teariki Terry Tuteru - A dominant performance by Cameron as he pounded on Tuteru for the better part of 3 rounds before the referee called it for the 3 TKO.

Toakipa Tasefa vs George Stankovich - After taking the first 2 rounds with east, Tasefa scored a knockdown in the 3rd enroute to the 3 round TKO win.

Semi-Finals:

Tom Heeney vs Toakipa Tasefa - Tasefa was pulling away by being faster to the punch and landing the harder shots. A frustrated Heeney landed 3 low blows in the fight, garnering a warning, losing a point then finally being disqualified in the 8th round to send Tasefa forward. I had it 6-1 Tasefa while Romy Alvarez had it 5-1. The judges had it 3-2, 6-1, 4-2 Tasefa.

Harry Laing vs Shane Cameron - A brilliant brawl with little to no defense as Cameron suprised everyone with the 4th round TKO despite Laing never going down. Cameron took 2 of the first 3 rounds before the stoppage.

Final:

Shane Cameron vs Toakipa Tasefa - Tasefa had built a small lead when he was knocked down in the 8th then cut to stop the fight for the TKO. Cameron moves on as New Zealand's entrant in the World Tournament.

Quarter-Finals:

Dick Ellis vs Sam Leuii - Ellis destroyed Leuii, softening him up in the 1st round then scoring the KO blow in the 2nd with a perfect uppercut.

Professor William Long vs Tony Renata - Brutal fight that saw Long pursuing and scoring well against Renata only to have Renata punish him with brilliant counterpunching through the first 4 rounds. Unfortunately a nasty cut on the right eyebrow of Renata ended things for the TKO.

Semi-Finals:

Anthony Bigeni vs Dick Ellis - Ellis gave Bigeni a much tougher fight than expected, despite going down 2 times in the 5th round. It finally unraveled for Ellis in the 8th round when Bigeni hurt him early and often before the referee stepped in to put an end to it for the TKO.

John Cunningham vs Professor William Long - A tough close fight between the boxer Cunningham, who used the ring well and the slugger Long who punished Cunningham when he was able to corner him. Cunningham suffered a cut that ended the fight in the 13th round with the outcome in doubt (I had it 6-5 Long while Dan Cuoco had it 6-5 Cunningham) The judges had it 6-5 and 8-3 Long and 6-5 Cunningham.

Final:

Anthony Bigeni vs Professor William Long - A total brawl that had both men scoring well, but with Bigeni by far getting the better of it when the referee decided that Long was unable to defend himself so he jumped in in the 5th round and ended it for the TKO to send Bigeni on to the World Tournament.

Sean Sullivan recieves the automatic bid due to lack of competition in the Super Middleweight division.

With 11 fighters in the Middleweight division we will have 3 fight-ins.

Fight-Ins:

Jim Saxton vs Owen Higgins - Saxton was in control from the opening bell as Higgens didn't have the dancing skills needed to keep him at bay. 3 knockdowns later, including 2 in the fatal 11th, Higgins was on his back for the count.

Sid Barnes vs Professor Bloom - After feeling things out for half a round Barnes landed a perfect uppercut that floored Bloom for the count.

Ted Perry vs Fred Millar - Millar survived a 1st round 9 count knockdown and was battered throughout, but opened a cut on the eyelid of Perry in the 9th round and reopened it in the 10th round for the TKO on cuts. I had Perry up 7-1 through 9 rounds while Mark L. Elwood had it 6-2.

Quarter-Finals:

Dan Creedon vs Fred Millar - Creedon had Millar's number in this one, dominating from the opening bell, scoring a knockdown in the 4th before the KO punch in the 5th round.

Bill Hefferman vs Sid Barnes - Hefferman scored 3 knockdowns in the 3rd round then 3 more in the 4th before Barnes finally stayed down for the KO.

Jim Pettengell vs Jim Saxon - Pettengell survived a 2nd round knockdown to come on strong, scoring a pair of knockdowns of his own as he KO'd Saxon in the 8th round.

Richard Murphy vs John Laurie - A wild brawl that saw Murphy getting the better of it when Laurie landed a series of punches in the 8th that had Murphy nearly out on his feet when the referee stepped in to call the bout for the TKO. I had Murphy up 6-1 while Dave Rodman had him up 5-1 through 7.

Semi-Finals:

Dan Creedon vs John Laurie - After splitting the first 2 rounds Creedon came out smoking, scoring a knockdown in the early stages of the round then the KO at the end of the 3rd round.

Bill Heffernan vs Jim Pettengell - This one was an all out brawl that ended when Pettengell landed a pair of hooks for knockdowns, the final one ofr the 10 count in the 4th round.

Final:

Dan Creedon vs Jim Pettengell - Creedon scored a knockdown in the 1st round and Pettengell's answer was to clinch in the next few rounds as he kept things close. In the end however, no amount of hugging could nullify the power of Creedon as Pettengell went down 2 more times in the 7th round before being KO'd in the 8th. Creedon moves on to the World Tournament with a 3-0-0 (3) record.

Final:

Monty Betham vs Iona Tana Tooala - Betham battered Tooala for 4 rounds, nearly closing the right eye then opening a gash above the left eyebrow to end things in the 4th round for the TKO on cuts. Betham will take his 1-0-0 (1) and test it against the best of the best in the World Tournament.

Fight-In:

Monty Bhana vs Frank Heath - Bhana only needed 57 seconds as he landed a perfect uppercut to KO Heath.

Semi-Finals:

Barry Brown vs Monty Bhana - Brown was dominating when Bhana suprised him with a hook that floored him for a 9 count in the 10th round. Brown scored a flash knockdown in the 11th then the fight was halted when he reopened a cut on the lip of Bhana that was litterally spurting blood for the 12th round TKO.

Otto Cribb vs Dick Sandall - Sandall came out strong, building a lead and scoring the first knockdown of the fight before Cribb came storming back taking the final 6 rounds including 2 knockdowns of his own in the 14th round. I had it 9-6 Cribb while Jim Trunzo also had it 9-6 Cribb. The judges agreed with us, scoring it 9-6 on all 3 cards for Cribb.

Final:

Barry Brown vs Otto Cribb - Brown survived a 1st round knockdown to build a lead, but in the 8th his boxing skills failed him as the power of Cribb took over. After an early knockdown in the 8th, he went down again to a viscious combination that put his lights out and sent Cribb on to the World Tournament.

We have 12 fighters in the Lightweight division. The top 4 seeds will recieve a bye. They are Barney Donovan, Manny Santos, Jimmy Murphy and Richard Campbell.

Round 1:

Tommy Williams vs Tom Codlin - One sided match between 2 light hitting boxers saw Codlin down once as Williams was the harder hitting and faster of the 2 throughout. I had it 14-1 Williams and Don Koss had it 10-1 Williams as there were several close rounds, particularly early on. The judges scored it 13-1, 14-1, 12-2 for Williams.

Ike Fake vs Billy Hurcombe - Fake stalked Hurcombe throughout, scoring at will despite being cut late in the round. He scored 3 knockdowns to none by Hurcombe and took the fight 12-2 in my eyes while Steve McCarthy saw it 11-2 Fake. The judges had it 11-3, 13-1, 11-3 for Fake.

Micky Kirby vs Jack Nicolson - It only took Nicolson 93 seconds to dispatch Kirby with a solid uppercut to the glass jaw of Kirby.

Mick O'Brien vs Bill Parker - A close tactical bout with both men showing some flashes of brilliance had O'Brien winning 8-7 on my card and 8-5 on the card of Rocco Del Sesto. The judges had it 8-6 O'Brien, 8-6 for Parker & 8-7 for O'Brien by Split Decision.

Quarter-Finals:

Barney Donovan vs Ike Fake - It took 13 rounds and 4 knockdowns for Donovan to finally score the KO against a game but overmatched Fake.

Manny Santos vs Jack Nicolson - Santos was well on his way to a dominating win with a pair of knockdowns when the referee ended the fight in the 7th round due to swelling around the right eye of Nicolson for the TKO.

Jimmy Murphy vs Mick O'Brien - Murphy suprised everyone by standing in with the stronger O'Brien, opening a gash over his right eye in the 3rd then reopening it in the 4th round for the Murphy TKO on cuts.

Richard Campbell vs Tommy Williams - Good action bout that saw Williams countering well but unable to avoid Campbell's offense. It went the distance, and I saw it 8-7 Campbell as did Dan Cuoco. The judges scored it 8-6 Campbell, 7-7 even & 8-7 Campbell.
