Dayam! How often do you see a pitcher with a winning performance in which he whiffs zero batters and walks six? Much less pitch six shutout innings.
'Course, allowing only two hits helps mightily. 'Tis good to have the Oakland D behind you.

OMG!!!!! My boy is UP!!!!! My boy is UPPPPP!!!!!
![]() Had to change my avatar back to Suzuki because the A's called him up to take the place of Adam Melhuse, who has been traded to the Rangers for cash. No link yet on Suzuki but AthleticsNation is saying Geren announced it. I hope this means Kendall will sit a bit as they try out the rookie. Stupid move if he's not going to play. EDIT: This article confirms that Suzuki is being called up. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...eed=rss.sports Poor Melhuse. I felt bad for the guy having to sit in favor of the worst catcher in baseball: Quote:

Yeah, it's to the point where I'm taking him for granted almost, just expecting 7+ innings and <2 ER.

Anyone remember this series? July 6, 2001 - A's 3, Arizona 0 Mulder: 9 IP, 1 H, 9 SO July 7, 2001 - A's 5, Arizona 1 Hudson: 9 IP, 1 ER, 6 SO July 8, 2001 - A's 2, Arizona 1 Zito: 6 IP, 1 ER, 10(!) SO They were under .500 going into that series and then came out of it one game over going into the All Star break to begin the typical A's second half surge. Ah, memories. Too bad it was only July.

Someone please explain to me why the hell Flores pitched to Ausmus in the 11th with first base open and a lefty on deck.

Because Ausmus is a horrible hitter.

Well at that point Ausmus had 3 RBI out of Houston's four runs, so I still don't see the righty-lefty matchup as the way to go. I'd have still gone after the guy hitting .208 in the on-deck circle with lefty-lefty matchup and a DP possibility. I'm calling this the first Macha like move I can remember from this season out of Geren.
