But in the end the better team did win, irrespective of what Markus Merk did or didn't give, but if Brazil play like that (and against Croatia) for much longer they won't live up to my prediction of winning the tournament.
I want to add that the Aussies were great. The endeavour and workrate of every player was first class. However they, sadly for me, always looked second in a two-horse race.

Agreed, pretty much completely. Generally average game, and Brazil are going to need to improve a lot to go much further. Oh, and as a Liverpool fan, totally agree about Kewell. He missed that because he was trying to shoot and avoid getting kicked at the same time. If he'd just put his boot through it, and taken the knock, he'd have scored. Just like 10 minutes later when he failed to attack a cross; he's the wimpiest Aussie sportsman of all time.

What could possibly be responsible for the French scoring drought?

No worries, you weren't to know. If I wasn't such an emotional idiot, I would have been here all the time anyway.

Well you know my opinion on the French, there are too many oldies.

But Henry's just ended the drought.

I was about to post:

07 F Malouda
04 P Vieira
06 C Makelele
10 Z Zidane
11 S Wiltord

- Unbalanced/too defensive midfield, over reliant on an ageing and declining Zidane, lacking top quality (Vieira isn't the player he was, either).

But then they scored.

A Hageneezz sighting is almost as rare as a French goal.
And then look at that - one follows the other.

Stupidist comment of the broadcast so far "Ghana pulled off the biggest upset of the World Cup by beating the Czechs"

Not necessarily stupid; Ghana had a bad African Nations and dropped half the team. The Czechs were well fancied, and even a few peoples dark horses for the tournament (not mine).

I don't see why it is that stupid. What other ones have there been - Ecuador beating Poland, and T&T tying Sweden but that's about all, isn't it?

"" ""

I don't think it was a stupid comment at all.

Eh. Perhaps to real football fiends there have been bigger upsets, but tradition counts for a lot in the world of sports and not necessarily unfairly so. Ghana is no slouch, true, but I think given the atmosphere, the expectations and the spectre of tradition that defeating the Czechs is pretty huge.

Perception counts for a lot and therefore I don't think Dellacamera's comment was off base at all. Certainly not stupid
