Busy day in real life. Busy time in Commonwealth baseball world.
Before I progress, and because I know Tyke is my most loyal of readers . . . the Party Boys are traveling to County Crossing this weekend. Now, currently the Bloodbugs are 6-3 and tied for 1st with the Party Boys standing at 2-7. However, if the Party Boys are going to find success, it will be this weekend. You know how I know? Last season, total games = Party Boys 8, Bloodbugs 4. If the Party Boys could play the Bloodbugs every weekend, they would be a playoff team! Let's see if that series record persists!

April 2297 - News and Notes - April 29
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 29 April 2297 - BL: Bloodbugs Edge Past Party Boys, 4-3 The County Crossing Bloodbugs racked up a win at Beantown Brewery Stadium, bumping off the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 4-3. Bad Company Grognak, who started for County Crossing, pitched effectively for his team. County Crossing reliever William Whitehurst picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Chet Arthur absorbed the loss. Nordhagen Beach drops to 2-8. Josh Noggin clinched the win with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth. In the game, the County Crossing first baseman was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. "The effort we put into this one paid off," Noggin said. Bloodbugs rookie Biter Trout may have had his breakout game. The fourth pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft went 2 fo3 with a double, a walk, a run, and two RBI. Other Scores: Easy Town 2 at The Slog 7 Millioncap Go was 4 for 5, all singles, with two runs and two RBI. Edwin Mass moved to 2-0 on the season, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Lou Churchman had three hits, one a double, with two runs in a losing effort for the Assaultrons. Salem 2 at Finch Farm 10 Matt Pageturner pitched a complete-game victory to move to 4-0 on the season. He allowed five hits and two earned runs, walked one, and struck out 10. Dustin Daylight was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Danny Honeycutt also had three hits for the Four Leafs. 29 April 2297 - IL: Great Day for Langer -- 5 Hits Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Safety Langer said his club's tilt with the Lexington Synths "felt almost like batting practice." The 17-year-old left fielder went a remarkable 5-for-5 at the plate. "I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later. However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, who were topped by the Synths, 3-2. "It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Silver Shroud manager Mark Andersen said. "Sometimes Safety is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-5 and lose than go 0-for-5 and lose." Safety Langer doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th. Presently Langer is batting .359 and has collected no home runs, 1 RBIs, .390 OBP and scored 7 runs. Other Scores: Abernathy 5 at Concord 6 Shawn Cherry's RBI walk-off single propelled the Radstags to their third win on the season while the Adamantium dropped to 1-9. Josh McIntyre earned the game's MVP award, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a walk, two runs, and three RBI. Starlight 3 at Sunshine Tidings 2 The Chemists had a chance to tie for last place, but City Moore had other plans, moving to 4-0 on the young season. Moore allowed two earned runs on 11 hits with a walk in 8.0 innings. He also had a two-RBI single in the top of the 4th to put the Killers up 3-0. Larry Undertaker earned his 5th save. Tony Bertha pitched well in dropping to 2-2. In 7.0 innings, he allowed three unearned runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts. 29 April 2297 - ML: Ranger Shuts Out University Point, 6-0 The Quincy Gunners shut out the University Point Deathclaws 6-0 today behind the strong pitching of Matt Ranger. Ranger surrendered only 7 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 7. Following the last out, Ranger appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for University Point manager Woody Lumpkin, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Ranger's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart. The Deathclaws skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Gunners press conference, Ranger confirmed that it was regarding the celebration. "He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Ranger said. "And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Quincy manager Kevin Banner added. Other Scores: Goodneighbor 5 at Atom 1 Quincy Eloquent moved to 3-1 with a dominant performance. In the complete-game win, Eloquent allowed one earned run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Jumper Hayes propelled the offense, going 3 for 5 with a two-RBI triple and four RBI total. Ray McMillen's 9th-inning home run provided the Cats' only run. Jamaica Plain 2 at Warwick 12 The Mirelurks moved back to .500 by tearing into the lowly Red Rockets. Brad Krol was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, two runs, and 5 RBI. John Diner moved to 3-1 with the complete-game victory. He allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. 29 April 2297 - RL: 7 Straight Wins for T-51s Curt Redcoats pitched well, but the Vault 81 Dwellers still lost the game, falling 4-2 to the Oberland T-51s at CURIE Inc. Field. The T-51s, now 9-1, have stormed out of the gates. Chris Milteer took Curt Redcoats deep in the top of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the T-51s on top, 4-2. In all, Milteer had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3. Milteer called the triumph "a good team win." Vault 81 manager Crow Monitor did not have a lot of good to say about the game. "I took this job to win games, not to see a bunch of vault dwellers running around like there's a radroach in the kitchen sink. I don;t care if we're playing Oberland or the Boston School of the Armless. We have to win at home." Other Scores: Egret 4 at Diamond City 14 Wayne Lacy helped pushed the offensive explosion for the Swatters. He was 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, three runs, and two RBI. Wally Warwick hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBI. Paladin Danse was 2 for 4 with a three-run home run in the 1st inning in the loss. Shaw 2 at Fairline Hill Estates 10 Adam Crook was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, a run, and four RBI. Hose Wallcrawler added a 4 for 5 effort with three doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Bow Rome moved to 2-2 with the victory.

The 29-year-old Radwater whiffed 4 and allowed 1 walk in the game. "Not perfect today, but I'll definitely take it," Radwater said later. "I made a couple mistakes but thankfully they didn't get all of them and the guys behind me cleaned things up." Other Scores: Goodneighbor 9 at Atom 3 Bruce Iddings threw the complete-game victory to move to 2-2. He allowed three earned runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Good Don Duck was 4 for 6 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Shawn Robco was 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, a run, and three RBI. 30 April 2296 - RL: Van Benschoten Delivers Walk-Off Win for Dwellers The Vault 81 Dwellers took Oberland pitcher Gerald Jerry's best shot and still were able to claim a win at CURIE Inc. Field. The final score had Vault 81 getting past the T-51s, 4-3. Jerry went 9 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 5. Vault 81 reliever Uncle Abe Feddersen was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Justin Sumbich took the loss. Vault 81 goes to 4-7. The Dwellers procured the win, in large part because of left fielder Chris Van Benschoten. Matt Basile was 3 for 4 with a home run, a walk, a run scored, and four RBI. 1 May 2297 - IL: Hendrix Leads Synths to Win The home crowd had a good time watching the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Lexington Synths get after it. The Lexington Synths beat the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 14-5, at Super Duper Mart Stadium. The win was due in part to shortstop Swift Hendrix, who was 4-5 with a home run and 3 doubles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. Lexington goes to 8-4. The Synths had their chances. In the top of the eighth, Safety Langer took a 1-1 fastball and hit a grand slam home run, putting Lexington up, 14-5. The lead, though, would later evaporate. Starlight 4 at Sunshine Tidings 3 The Starlight Lady Killers faced a tough opponent in Sunshine Tidings pitcher Bill Sarnacki, but did just enough to pull out the victory at ArcJet Systems Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Sarnacki went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Starlight reliever John Walden picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tiny Greene took the loss. Starlight used the timely hitting of Ruben Q to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Lady Killers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer. 1 May 2297 - ML: Deathclaws Make Gunners 4-3 Losers University Point picked up a win at The Stone House, bumping off the Quincy Gunners, 4-3. Pitcher Adam Froggatt was a major reason the Deathclaws emerged victorious. The win puts University Point at 6-6. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Bernie Gonzalez? The University Point left fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Deathclaws on top, 4-2. For the game, Gonzalez had 2 doubles and 1 single in 5 at-bats. He was charged with 6 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 11. His record now stands at 2-2. For Jamaica Plain, now 2-10, the season is off to a dismal start. 1 May 2297 - RL: T-51s Upend Dwellers, 9-4 Jonathan Abern helped his team muscle past the Vault 81 Dwellers, 9-4. The right-hander struck out 4 and walked 0. The T-51s, now 10-2, have been sizzling early on. It could have been a different outcome for Oberland, had it not been for Chris Milteer, the 20-year old shortstop . Milteer contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Oberland up, 2-0. "I just tried to make good contact," said Abern. Other Scores: Egret 3 at Diamond City 5 Prince Billingsley, who finished 3rd in the RL in triples with 5 last year, contributed to the Diamond City win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. May 2297 - News and Notes - April Players of the Month
Now with rookies (hopefully properly vetted, but I will check and make tweaks if needed)!!!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 1 May 2297 - Players of the Month This month's players of the month voting happened to fall right in the middle of Week 4. I am not privy to how exactly these players are selected in this situation and it did not wait until one day later when Week 4 would be finished. Something tells me that Nate Howard isn't sitting there with a calculator and a knife-sharpened pencil figuring this out. Something tells me that there is an automated system. Still, the games were more important than the players of the month, so I am pulling an all-nighter on a Saturday night to give you the baseball fans all the information you're hungering for. Please tell me you actually read what I write! Contact me through terminal mail @PublickOccurrences. Remember, One K, two C's, and two R's. If you're an insider and have ESAU access, I can also be reached at #NatWK. We have players of the month, and an update on the Boston Minor Union, but I will have to get to that last part following tomorrow's schedule of games. This year, the CBO is calculating service time. New players and players who were on the active roster below a certain number of days are considered "rookies" in 2297. Therefore, this season, we will add rookie awards to the mix, to go along with a top manager award at the conclusion of the season in each league. Batters of the Month Yellowhair Wins BL Prize, Named Best Hitter in April: The Slog Ghouls fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April. Boots Yellowhair put up a remarkable month at the age of 19 and has been named the Brotherhood League Batter of the Month. For the month, Yellowhair hit .385 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Morals Named IL Batter of the Month: Micah Morals made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Institute League this past month. The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud third baseman shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 21-year-old hit .500 with 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 7 runs scored. ML Honors Krol, #1 Batter in April: When Brad Krol stepped up to the plate in April he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Minutemen League Batter of the Month award. The young Warwick second baseman posted a .500 batting average with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 12 runs. Krol also worked pitchers for 5 walks to post a .531 on-base percentage. Castillo Takes Best Bat Award in April: Prof Castillo may be much younger than other hitters in the Railroad League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in April to win the Batter of the Month award. The 19-year-old Oberland left fielder hit .463 with 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Pitchers of the Month April's Starter of the Month Goes to Pageturner: The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Brotherhood League winner is Finch Farm hurler, Matt Pageturner. For his fine efforts in April he has been named the league's #1 pitcher. During the month, Pageturner excelled with a 3.00 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 36 innings he struck out 26 and gave up 32 hits and 9 walks. Moore Best IL Starter in April: Starlight starter City Moore really put the chill on opposing teams in April and today was acclaimed the Institute League Pitcher of the Month. He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 2.87 ERA in 4 starts. In 31.1 innings, he fanned 14 and walked 4. ML Selects Diner April's Top Starter: The #1 pitcher this past month in the Minutemen League was John Diner of the Warwick Mirelurks. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing April with a superb 3-1 record and a 1.91 ERA. The Mirelurks star made 4 starts and surrendered 23 hits in 33 innings. He struck out 31 and walked 7. Oberland Starter Selected Best Pitcher and Best Husband Ever: Sheng Kawolski took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Railroad League Pitcher of the Month award for April. The 24-year-old T-51s starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 2-0 won-lost record in 4 starts. This month he fanned 24 batters in 28.1 innings and compiled a 2.54 ERA. Rookies of the Month Rookie of the Month Won by DiGrande: Though he's only 18, Zach DiGrande really put together a spectacular April to capture the Brotherhood League Rookie of the Month honor. The County Crossing starter spun 2 wins and 1 loss as he posted a 4.84 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. Cincinnatus Chosen IL's Best Newcomer: For an old man, in baseball terms, 30-year-old George Cincinnatus has been mighty fortunate to get to the big leagues and have the opportunity to show what he can do. In April the battle-weary newcomer finally made a splash as he won the Institute League Rookie of the Month Award today. He posted a 1-0 record with 10 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.77 in 11.2 innings. Baseball writers for whom he was an afterthought earlier are now scrambling to put out stories about Starlight's Ye Olde Rookie. April's #1 Rookie Named by ML: The Minutemen League's Rookie of the Month is Jessie Jerky of Quincy. In April the center fielder ravaged pitchers for a .438 BA, 21 hits, no home runs, 8 RBIs, scored 10 runs and walked 8 times for a .518 on-base percentage. April's #1 RL Rookie Named: Odysseus Blades is an old man by baseball standards. In fact, after so many years of being overlooked, the 30-year-old rookie for Shaw HS is a bit surprised himself that he's living the good life right now. In April Blades reeled off a 1-0 record in 0 starts as he claimed the Railroad League Rookie of the Month Award. He posted an ERA of 1.50 with 5 strikeouts in 6 innings and held opponents to a .143 average.

May 2297 - News and Notes - May 2
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 2 May 2297 - Tunafish Told to Take a Long Swim Warwick Mirelurks 5th-round pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, Tunafish Walshe, has been outspoken about his abilities and lack of playing time. Yesterday, a scuffle with Charles View Ampitheater Cannibals hitting coach Arnold Petruzzi before their double-header against the Trinity Plaza Snipers. Walshe was not happy with Petruzzi's criticisms of his efforts. When Petruzzi told him that he needed to lose the attitude and learn to play like "a man, not a *******," Walshe flung his bat at Petruzzi. Petruzzi then rushed and tackled Walshe before the scuffle was broken up. Walshe was immediately sent off the field and suspended for the next 10 days by Cannibals manager Jeff Butt. "I'm not going to tolerate that ***********," Butt said. "I'm going to get on the ESAU with [general manager] Jason [Liberti] and get this matter straightened. We don't need this ********** out here. Hopefully the kid comes back with an attitude adjustment." Walshe has appeared in seven games as a backup outfielder. In seven at bats, he has four hits, one of those a double, two runs, and three RBI. 2 May 2296 - Flatface Parker Looking to Play in May Quincy Gunners outfielder Flatface Parker says he is recovering well. Parker was attacked in January by a super mutant brute sporting a sledgehammer. Parker, who hit .337 in 61 starts in 2296, looks to be a key tool in boosting first-place Quincy in their championship pursuits. "We're encouraged by Flatface's progress," Quincy team trainer Bobby Larimore said. "He's been working hard to get ready and help this team score some runs."

Dark Hollow Pond League (BL)
Standings and Stats Batter of the Month General Atomics Galleria's Salvage Chosen DHPL Batter of the Month: Not known for his offensive prowess, Justin Salvage set the league afire in April and took home the Dark Hollow Pond League Batter of the Month award. The General Atomics Galleria first baseman posted a steady .524 batting average, 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 9 runs. Pitcher of the Month April's Best DHPL Hurler is Weaver: April's best hurler was Brian Weaver of General Atomics Galleria. He overwhelmed DHPL hitters all month long and captured the Pitcher of the Month award as he collected a 4-0 record in 4 starts. The 29-year-old Weaver added 18 strikeouts in 33 innings and 3 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.91 ERA. Other clubs hit .234 against him. Cambridge League (IL) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month Haltom of Union Hope Cathedral CL Batter of the Month: At only 23 years of age, Oilcan Haltom could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career. That would be great news for fans of the Union Hope Cathedral Lifegivers, as April was one to remember for the center fielder and he has captured the Cambridge League Batter of the Month award. On the month he hit .390 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 9 runs scored. Pitcher of the Month Refractors Kearns Named CL's Best Pitcher: Bob Kearns hasn't been around long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Cambridge League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In April the C.I.T. Ruins starter earned a 1-0 mark in 4 starts. He threw 32.1 innings, struck out 34 and compiled a solid 1.39 ERA. Downtown Boston League (ML) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month Fleeker Takes DBL's Best Bat Trophy: Bubbles Fleeker is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Trinity Plaza first baseman joined that select company when the Downtown Boston League announced the results of April's voting. Fleeker totaled 21 hits, 7 walks, 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 13 runs scored last month to put together a .467 batting average and .556 on-base percentage. Pitcher of the Month Best Starter Chosen by Downtown Boston League: Jake Williams has made fans throughout Downtown Boston League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Downtown Boston League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 4 starts Williams compiled a 2.48 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 32 and tossing 32.2 innings. Glowing Sea League (RL) Standings and Stats Batter of the Month April's GSL Batter of Month Award Announced: It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Matt Dealer has a lot of baseball ahead of him. But for now the young Fiddler's Green T-60s star can enjoy the numbers he put up in April, which have garnered him the nod as the Glowing Sea League Batter of the Month. His breakout month featured a .477 average with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 13 runs scored. Pitcher of the Month Bush Named Top GSL Hurler: The Glowing Sea League scribes have picked April's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Papa Bush of Eastlake. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 3-0 mark. The Aquaboys star hurler made 4 starts with a 1.41 ERA and surrendered 29 hits in 32 innings. He struck out 51 and walked 4. Bush was called up to the parent team, the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai for the last weekend of April. He is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA in one start.

2297 Week 4 - The Week in Review
Analysis
Twelve games in, 48 to go. We're 20% through the 2297 season, and the CBO is as exciting as it was in its first game a year ago. Taking a look at how things are going, it seems the Brotherhood League is well on its way to the same-same based on current records, though there was some distancing and catching up happening this weekend. The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys are still in last place, but now they are tied with the Salem Witch Hats for that position. The Party Boys faced their favorite foe over the weekend, knocking the County Crossing Bloodbugs from the top of the standings. Easy Town also worked its way back towards .500 by defeating the defending CBO champs, The Slog Ghouls, two out of three. Finch Farm took advantage of the Ghouls and Bloodbugs' losing weekend by winning all three games against the slumping Witch Hats. With the sweep, the Four Leafs now have a two-game advantage in the league with a trip to County Crossing next weekend to try to widen the gap. Matt Pageturner has been outstanding, winning all four of his starts this season for the Pitcher of the Month award. He is 4-0 with a 3.00 ERA to help the Leafs lead the league in runs allowed, starter ERA, and bullpen ERA. In the Institute League, people who thought the Starlight Lady Killers may quietly find themselves atop the division may be right. The Killers have been the most consistent team in the league so far, pushing the rest of the league into catch-up mode. The story for Starlight has been offense. They are first in the league in runs scored, and lead in several other offensive categories, though they are only third in batting average. Willie Qesadena and Skinny Danner each have 10 RBI, and Glenn Higinbotham and Jesus Church take extra bases when they get on. Abernathy is still sliding in the wrong direction in 2297, and it is easy to see why. The offense has not been getting the job done. While Austin Engill was the league's MVP a year ago, he is batting an abysmal .182 through 12 games. Radio Short (.415), Jim Waples (.356), and Steve Settler (.353) have been the entire offense for the IL's lowest-scoring offense. The pitching has not been much better, currently sitting at 5th in the IL in runs allowed. Ace Jason Woods and second starter Joe Penaltybox are a combined 0-6 on the season. With the offense struggling, it is important for the pitching to hold the opposing teams' offenses in check. The rest of the league is mostly a muddle with the 2nd through 4th place only having a two-game difference. Lexington has looked to be the class of that group, but Sunshine Tidings and Fort Hagen can play in 2297 and could topple the Synths for the wild card spot. Still, there is too much baseball to play to know truly how good any of the top four in the IL are. In the Minutemen League, Quincy may be in first place, but the Goodneighbor Hancocks are blue hot. After falling to 0-4 to start the season, the Cocks have refused to lose, winning their next eight. They will look to continue that string when they host University Point next week and then travel to last-place Jamaica Plain. Warwick also did not have a great start, but they look to be improving each week. Both the offense and defense are setting up nicely, and until they prove us all wrong, it looks like the Mirelurks are still the team to beat. John Diner is dominating yet again, sporting a 3-1 record and a 1.91 ERA. Justin Sphinx and Dave Kovalenko have been struggling a bit from the mound, but the Mirelurks still have the 2nd-best runs allowed and starter ERA in the ML. Second baseman Brad Krol has been murdering the ball, hitting at a .489 clip with six home runs and 18 RBI. Tutton Gatekeeper is also hitting well, batting .380 with four home runs and 19 RBI. Where the Lurks seem to be thriving, the Atom Cats are not currently looking like they will return to the playoffs in 2297. With just a lead over the Red Rockets, whom the Cats host next weekend, the Cats have to be better both offensively and defensively to pass up three of the Mirelurks, Gunners, Hancocks, and Deathclaws. Right now, the Cats are being outscored 80-62, or 6.67-5.2 per game. If the offense wakes up or the pitching performs a bit better, the Cats could start to discover more winning weekends. The Railroad League is the one league where it looks to be no-contest for the league winner. The reigning league champs, Oberland, sits with a four-game lead, and that will probably not change within the next few weeks. The T-51s lead the league in both runs scored (81) and allowed (43), so they are nearly doubling up opponents every game. April's player of the month, Prof Castillo has been much better than anyone else in the RL, hitting .444 with six home runs, and 23 RBI. While Egret's Paladin Danse is the only player who can challenge him for the season MVP at this point, Castillo would get the nod based on his numbers and his team's success. Pitching has also been great for the 51s. Their three starting pitchers--Sheng Kawolski, Gerald Jerry, and Matt Udder are a combined 7-0 on the season. Right now, the RL is about the battle for the wildcard. The Yao Guai, Knuckle Punchers, and Scrappers are all there. If last year is an indicator, Egret should have the advantage from that group, but they are all similar so far, so we will need to see how the next few weekends shape up. Shaw visits Egret and Danse next weekend, so that is one series that can help tell where the rest of the league stands.

May 2297 - News and Notes - May 3
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 3 May 2297 - CBO Players of the Week Week's Top Performer Honored by BL: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Matt Basile, the Finch Farm Four Leafs 19-year-old right fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Brotherhood League Player of the Week honors. He ripped 7 hits in 12 at-bats, compiling a .583 average with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. Institute League Selects Best Performer: Safety Langer demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Institute League Player of the Week Award. The Fort Hagen left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .643 average (9-for-14) with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Week's Best Player: Warwick's Lurkcakes: One of the league's most exciting young players, Random Lurkcakes of the Warwick Mirelurks earned himself Minutemen League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 25-year-old first baseman had a lofty .615 average (8-for-13), collecting no home runs, 4 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Week's Premier Performer Honored by RL: 18-year-old Hose Wallcrawler sent shock waves through Railroad League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Railroad League Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Wallcrawler made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .571 average, 8 hits in 14 at-bats, no home runs and 2 RBI. Where the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai shortstop goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Wallcrawler certainly made his mark last week.

Get to Know Your Settlements, Owners, and Corporations
Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 4 May 2297 - Quincy On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 season, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. These will be done at Nat Wright-Kowalski's availability In our twentieth installment of "Settlements Today," we visited another rejuvenated city, Quincy, as well as dove into another vault, except this one is much different. According to a terminal, Quincy is the hometown of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and John Hancock. No, not the mayor of Goodneighbor, but the 18th Century original, whose signature was the first on the original United States Declaration of Independence. In recent years, the post-War Quincy Ruins were occupied by Minutemen before political backstabbing caused the Gunners to take over the town. Some people associated with the Minutemen are not happy that the Quincy baseball team took the Gunners team name because of the brutality of the takeover. However, Quincy team owner Smiling Larry has cited the availability of the Gunners memorabilia as the reason. Who knows? A roll of the dice may one day change that, but for now, Quincy is associated with that Gunners takeover. They're dead now, though. Quincy Ruins - 2288 Today, the town is being restored with the help of Quincy Quarries, dually run by Smiling Larry and Vault 88 overseer Valery Barstow. Quincy had a lot of buildings that were mostly intact, so food stores, warehouses, gun emporiums, a Red Rocket, apartments, a church, a diner, a liquor store, a pharmacy, and a police station were all salvageable. The surrounding areas are not as built up, but more and more people arrive to help build and live in the settlement. Quincy diner - 2297. See this build at: https://imgur.com/r/falloutsettlements/NmvLS In addition, Barstow has worked relentlessly over the last nine years to build up Vault 88 into the largest livable vault in the known world. Right now, the main atrium is complete with some residential areas built. Barstow has said the entire vault should be completed before 2305. Vault 88 Atrium - 2297. The completed vault build can be found here: https://imgur.com/gallery/YMXO3sI Owner - Smiling Larry According to Smiling Larry, he's the second most famous person in the Commonwealth: "People want something, Smiling Larry finds it and brings it to them. The whole Commonwealth knows me." Smiling Larry showing off his beautiful smile. This man and his Reckoning were once bathed in the blood of a dozen super mutants. That's how Nate Howard met him. Smiling Larry held up the ripper and, well, he just smiled. Nate recruited him at first in the Southwestern settlement, Somerville Place, to be a weapons liaison for battling the Gunners near Vault 95 and the Gunner's Plaza. After Quincy was liberated from the Gunners, Smiling Larry asked Nate to move his weapons emporium there. Along with the quarry, Quincy became a wealthier part of the Commonwealth. The Stone House The Quincy Gunners baseball stadium took on the nickname, The Stone House, since it was built from the granite and limestone of the Quincy Quarries. According to terminals, "Quincy Quarries is a relatively small quarry in a rectangular shape with a few ramshackle metal shacks built in and around it. The quarry was used as a nuclear waste dump," but the settlers have been using technology to remove the waste materials. The Quarries supply building materials to most of the southeast region, most notably Quincy and Jamaica Plain, but Roxbury, Warwick, Atom Cats Garage, University Point, South Boston, and The Castle has also employed the Quarries for building supplies. The Castle used supplies from the Quarries to rebuild its northern and western walls. Vault 88 overseer Valery Barstow - she is another pre-War relic The main entrance for Vault 88 is in the quarry, so there is a constant connection between the quarry and the vault. Most of the settlers consider Vault 88 and Quincy to function as a single settlement though they currently consider themselves to be separate entities.

Boston Bugle Terminal - Remembering 2077
Piper Wright in one of the few columns she wrote for the CBO mentioned how baseball was back in Boston for the first time since the bombs dropped. In 2077, the Red Sox were one win away from the championship. They were to play Game 4 in Boston on October 23, 2077, against the favored Texas Rangers. A win would mark the first World Series victory for the Sox since 1918 with a sweep to boot.
Nate was a big fan of baseball, and he could name all 36 teams at that time, along with the probable finishes in each six-team division. We have attached that league finish with his best recollection of where they finished in 2077 as well as playoffs results at the end of this entry. "Deconstruction," Howard said on how he remembered. People in Boston looked at the playoffs brackets often because their team was in it to win it. First, let's show the baseball writer's story from the newspaper called the Boston Bugle. Boston Headed for First World Series Win Since 1918! By Buster Connolly Boston Bugle Staff Writer As every resident of Boston is painfully aware, it has been 159 years since this city has reveled in the joy of a World Series victory. Whether from strike out, error in the outfield, or ball that rolls disastrously through an infielder's legs, defeat has remained our constant, unwelcome companion. But not for long! In what has been one of the most exciting World Series races in decades, Boston has achieved a three-games-to-none lead over the "unbeatable" Texas favorite. Batting, fielding and pitching have all aligned - thanks largely to the direction of legendary coach Dusty Wilder - giving this year's team the best chance they've had for victory in, well, forever. Even more encouraging than game four being played here in Boston is the fact that the team has yet to utilize their star pitcher, Matt "The Missile" Murtagh. With him on the mound, some are actually predicting not only a series-shattering win, but a no-hitter to boot. Yes, for years, the concession stands of Boston have fed baseball fans a steady diet of beer, hot dogs, peanuts and bitter defeat. But on Saturday, October 23rd, 2077, the only thing that could snatch away victory is an act of God, or some obscene calamity of man. Tomorrow, my friends, the unthinkable will finally come to pass. And life in Boston will never be the same again.

Now that's some future-nostalgia I can endorse. Very interesting take on both the Fallout universe and the classic 36 team expansion which gets talked about so much.

May 2297 - News and Notes - May 6
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 6 May 2297 - BL: Assaultrons Take Down Party Boys, 6-4 The Easy Town Assaultrons defeated the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys in 12 innings, 6-4, at Easy Town Field today. Leading the charge for Easy Town was left fielder Jarrett Metalbox. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Easy Town reliever Marc Woodsman picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Chet Arthur shouldered the loss to drop to 1-4. Easy Town now has a 3-game win streak. The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 12th. With one out, Metalbox hit a cutter from Chet Arthur for a 2-run home run. The Assaultrons, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. "Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Metalbox. Other Scores: Salem 4 at The Slog 5, 10 inn. Led by Lernz Tentsleep, the The Slog Ghouls downed the Salem Witch Hats, 5-4. Tentsleep was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Ghouls. The Witch Hats, at 4-9, have lost 5 in a row. The Ghouls relied on pinch hitter Keagan Heat for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring double to seal the deal. "This game tested our mettle," said Heat. Finch Farm 4 at County Crossing 8 County Crossing first baseman Josh Noggin played a vital role in his team's 8-4 triumph over Finch Farm. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for County Crossing. The win puts County Crossing at 8-5 this season. Joel Carrotflower hit a 2-run double off Matt Pageturner in the bottom of the first, which put the Bloodbugs in front, 4-2. In addition to the double, Carrotflower had 2 singles, while going 3 for 4. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said County Crossing manager Biff Future. 6 May 2296 - IL: Lexington Helpless Against Bertha, Lose 3-0 Tony Bertha bent a little, but he didn't break against the Lexington Synths. The Sunshine Tidings Chemists pitcher hurled a 6-hit 3-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering no walks and tallying 9 strikeouts. "Tony is good at getting out of jams," Chemists manager Cozy Burmaster told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you." On the season Bertha has 3 wins and 2 losses and a 0.45 ERA. Other Scores: Fort Hagen 1 at Concord 5 The Concord Radstags topped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 8-1, in Institute League action at Nuka Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Concord pitcher Chris Radsco. The victory puts Concord at 5-8. The Radstags liked what they saw from Radsco. The 19-year old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Silver Shroud to 1 run on 6 hits over 8.1 innings, and striking out 11. Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen said his team was "out of sync." Starlight 6 at Abernathy 5 Starlight shortstop Justin People helped his team beat the Abernathy Adamantium, 6-5. People, who is tied for 9th in the IL with a .367 batting average, went 2 for 4 for the Lady Killers. Larry Undertaker earned the save for Starlight, his 7th. Starlight has an impressive 10-3 record. People had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a 1-2 changeup from Jason Woods, he banged a 2-run double to left-center, giving the Lady Killers a 5-3 lead. It was the 4th double of the year for People. "We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said People. 6 May 2296 - ML: Goodneighbor Hot Streak Continues with 6-4 Win The Goodneighbor Hancocks dealt the University Point Deathclaws a 6-4 loss at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. Good Don Duck was the star on offense. He went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Quincy Eloquent, the winning pitcher, is now 4-1. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 2. With the victory, the Hancocks upped their record to 9-4. Bryan Assman took Quentin Malone deep in the bottom of the first. His 3-run home run put the Hancocks on top, 3-0. In all, Assman had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4. "Winning the game is always the first objective," Assman said. Other Scores: Jamaica Plain 11 at Atom 9, 10 inn. Atom got a terrific performance from right fielder Travis Alone, but it wasn't enough to beat the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. Jamaica Plain won the Coolest Field in Town contest, 11-9. Alone went 3 for 6 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the losing team. Jamaica Plain reliever Steven Rockman picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Freedom Williams absorbed the loss. The Cats, now 4-9, have lost 4 straight. Jamaica Plain used a clutch hit from Aaron Welloff to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Rockets ahead, 11-9. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer. "Our team showed some spunk," said Welloff. Warwick 3 at Quincy 1 In a low-scoring game between the Warwick Mirelurks and the Quincy Gunners, pitcher John Diner was masterful on the mound. The Warwick right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Pem Pollack nailed down his 2nd save. With the win, Warwick raised its record to 8-5. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Melon Sanderson? The Warwick right fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Mirelurks on top, 2-0. For the game, Sanderson had 2 doubles and 1 single in 3 at-bats. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Sanderson said. 6 May 2296 - RL: T-51s Top Swatters, 4-0, Behind Kawolski Oberland T-51s starter Sheng Kawolski turned in an exceptional performance against the Diamond City Swatters at The Great Green Jewel, resulting in a Oberland win, 4-0. The win gives Oberland a season record of 11-2. Kawolski scattered 4 hits over 8 innings for the T-51s. With the win, Kawolski goes to 3-0 on the year with 32 strikeouts. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Kawolski told the Oberland Bulletin. Other Scores: Shaw 12 at Egret 5 The Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers knocked off the Egret Scrappers, 12-5, at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Damani Beebe was a big reason Shaw HS won. The right fielder went 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 5. William Howard Chief recorded the save, his 1st. With the win, Shaw HS pushed its record to 7-6. Early in the game, Beebe had a 2-run triple for Shaw HS. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Knuckle Punchers on top, 2-0. "The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Shaw HS manager Squatty O'Sullivan. Vault 81 8 at Fairline Hill Estates 2 Vault 81 pitcher Curt Redcoats did his part in helping his team beat the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai, 8-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The Dwellers go to 5-8 with the win. Hose Wallcrawler had a chance to hurt the Dwellers in the bottom of the ninth. With Fairline Hill Estates trailing 8-1, the Yao Guai had runners on 2nd and 3rd. But Wallcrawler popped out.

Second was considering what a nearly 200-year-old league would look like. Third, the Canada problem, so Toronto was out (and the possibility of there being Montreal in the league). Fourth, the split in the timeline (approximately 1945) of the Fallout universe from our universe. The first thing I did was to keep the Dodgers and Giants right where they belonged. That meant considering how the dominoes would have started falling in the 1950s and elsewhere once the timelines split. LA and SF would still get franchises, but they would be new franchises. That means the 1969 expansion probably did not happen the same way. But you can see the KC Royals and SD Padres exist. So do the Milwaukee Brewers, which were a product of the Seattle Pilots disaster. Maybe Toronto had a franchise, too, but they cannot exist by 2077. Fifth, I just filled in teams where they either seemed right or I like them (hello, Pels!!!). Sixth, I rolled for finish. Other than Boston and Texas being division champions, the rest of the division finishes depended on the dice. Once I had every division finished, I populated the seven-team playoffs per league. Voila! More backstory!

May 2297 - News and Notes - May 7
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 May 2297 - BL: Party Boys Lose, 12-5, at Easy Town Field Adam Henderson was a major factor in the 12-5 Easy Town win over Nordhagen Beach. The Assaultrons catcher was 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Easy Town starter David Tech was credited with the win after throwing 144 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 1-2. With the win, Easy Town pushed its record to 7-7. Jarrett Metalbox, who led the BL in batting average with .404 last year, aided the Easy Town cause with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the left fielder went 2 for 5 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Metalbox. Other Scores: Salem 1 at The Slog 5 Pitcher David Kiwi was sensational for the The Slog Ghouls in his team's 5-1 triumph over the Salem Witch Hats. Kiwi picked up the win, and it was well-earned. Salem now has a 6-game losing streak. Kiwi scattered 4 hits over 9 innings for the Ghouls. With the win, Kiwi moves to 2-0 on the year with 18 strikeouts. Finch Farm 5 at County Crossing 6 Mushy Levy was a major contributor to the 6-5 County Crossing win over Finch Farm. The Bloodbugs right fielder was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was Blaine Phrasemaker. He went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 12 and walked 4. William Whitehurst collected save number 4. Levy had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-2 fastball from Zippy Patterson, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Bloodbugs a 5-4 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Levy. 7 May 2297 - IL: Tight Tilt Goes to Synths, 4-3 The Sunshine Tidings Chemists got a superb performance from first baseman Jalen Wharton. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Lexington. The Synths won the game, 4-3. Wharton went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Lawdog Whipple picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-2. He struck out 4 in 8 innings. The triumph puts Lexington at 9-5 for the season. It could have been a different outcome for Lexington, had it not been for Justin Daros, the 17-year old third baseman . Daros contributed a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put Lexington up, 4-0. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Daros said. Other Scores: Fort Hagen 9 at Concord 14 A 5-RBI performance from the 20-year old left fielder Dan Erb helped the Concord Radstags beat the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 14-9. Concord is now 6-8. Fort Hagen is 6-8. Concord took a 12-9 lead on Ricky Ticky Laughy's 5th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Laughy hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Fort Hagen pitcher Matt Demented shaking his head. Starlight 8 at Abernathy 4 Starlight picked up a win at Tato Field, toppling the Abernathy Adamantium, 8-4. Pitcher Jonathan Newman was one of the reasons the Lady Killers triumphed. Newman picked up the win for Starlight, going 8 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. Hope Scrapper, the 24-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Scrapper contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Starlight up, 1-0. 7 May 2297 - ML: Goodneighbor Hot Streak Continues with 4-3 Win The University Point Deathclaws got a sterling performance from left fielder Bernie Gonzalez, but the Goodneighbor Hancocks still prevailed, 4-3. Gonzalez went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. This win makes it 10 in a row for Goodneighbor. Had Good Don Duck not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Duck hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Hancocks. "We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. Other Scores: Jamaica Plain 6 at Atom 7 Atom picked up a win at Coolest Field in Town, bumping off the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 7-6. Pitcher Jesse Emacipated was a major reason the Cats emerged victorious. Atom reliever Freedom Williams picked up the win to move to 2-1. Mike Grille suffered the loss. The victory puts Atom at 5-9. The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Atom catcher Garrett Machine, facing Mike Grille, had a run-scoring strikeout. It gave the Cats the 7-6 win. Warwick 5 at Quincy 3 The Warwick Mirelurks beat the Quincy Gunners, 5-3, at The Stone House. The win was due in part to catcher Shane Noteman, who went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Justin Sphinx, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-2. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Warwick now has a record of 9-5 with the win. Random Lurkcakes, the 25-year old first baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Lurkcakes contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put Warwick up, 4-0. 7 May 2297 - RL: T-51s Dealt 8-6 Loss by Diamond City The Diamond City Swatters beat the Oberland T-51s, 8-6. Diamond City pitcher and Middleborough Center, Massachusetts, native Mark Stuhlsatz led the way. Diamond City reliever Ricky Six Pack picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Picnic Kearbey shouldered the loss. Josh Samm recorded his 4th save for Diamond City. Diamond City took a 5-3 lead on Waze Waiting's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Oberland pitcher Picnic Kearbey in the bottom of the seventh. "I found a nice groove out there," said Stuhlsatz. The Swatters sport a record of 5-9. Note: Champions list taken from the locker room banners. The 1904 and 1946 banners represent an American League champion banner, not a World Series championship banner. We in the Commonwealth have declared 2077 a World Series title due to Sox being up 3-0 in that series at the time of the nuclear war. Diamond City's Mayor MacCready has declared that there will be a 2077 championship banner added to the stadium. Also edit: I did not update with the cola wars/beer sponsors, so the picture is updated. Other Scores: Shaw 6 at Egret 7, 10 inn. Egret pinch hitter Fawk Fowkes made his presence felt in the 7-6 Scrappers triumph over the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers. Fowkes was 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. With the win, Egret raised its record to 7-7. The Scrappers procured the win, in large part because of second baseman Dustin Bowfiddle. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring double. Vault 81 4 at Fairline Hill Estates 9 The Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai defeated the Vault 81 Dwellers, 9-4. Doing his part was shortstop Hose Wallcrawler, who belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. The victory gives the Yao Guai a record of 7-7. With Fairline Hill Estates leading 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Wallcrawler hit a fastball from Josh Mustang for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Yao Guai ahead, 8-4.

After Franklin intentionally walked Andre Grogg to employ the force out, Tiger King came through with an RBI single to put Fort Hagen on top for good. The Shroud also had a three-run pinch hit home run in the 7th inning by Bixton Moore. At the time, it put Fort Hagen up 5-4, but Concord answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Ricky Ticky Laughy led all hitters. Cats had a minor injury on his leg, and the entire pack of mongrels were sent to their maker in doggie heaven. T-60s manager Brett MacCheese feels Cats should be good to play next weekend at the Poseidon Reservoir Sentry Bots next weekend, barring any complications from the bite. "It was a nip, really," MacCheese said. "We'll pump a few chems in him and make sure the wound doesn't rot. Otherwise, Cats is going to keep on being our ace." Cats picked up his first win of the season yesterday against the Robobrains in a 5-2 decision. He allowed two earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jason Harris came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Goodneighbor pitcher Matt Rodrigue, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting University Point on top, 7-5. "We'll drink 30 cold ones and get back after it tomorrow," Gonzalez said after the game. 2297 Week 5 - The Week in Review
Analysis
We are at the end of the first quarter of the 2297 season, and the league races are mostly tight and interesting. The one league where there is a team without question in the lead is the Railroad League. At 12-3, the Oberland T-51s have a four-game lead and look like they will cruise into the league title for the second straight season. Since the other three leagues are tight at the top, we are going to analyze the top three of those leagues this week. In the RL, we'll look at places 2 through 4 since there is a one-game difference there. So let's start with what we think is the toughest league in the CBO, the Brotherhood League. The three-team race includes the down but up more County Crossing Bloodbugs in first, with The Slog Ghouls and Finch Farm Four Leafs trailing by a game. County Crossing surged into first place with their sweep of the previous top Four Leafs. That follows a weekend where the Bloodbugs lost the series to sixth-place Nordhagen Beach and losing two of three to Finch Farm the weekend before. So let us look at the Bloodbugs first. The team has been led by its pitching, currently second in the BL in runs allowed, starter ERA, and bullpen ERA. Ace Bad Company Grognak is 2-1 with a 4.38 ERA and second starter Blaine Phrasemaker is 3-1 with a 4.45 ERA. On offense, the Bloodbugs get a lot of hits, leading the BL in batting average, but they are 5th in runs scored and 6th in power hitting! 1B Josh Noggin has been the standout, batting .414 with three home runs and 17 RBI. For the Ghouls and Leafs, they have their strengths and weaknesses. The defending CBO champions are leading the league in runs scored (106) and second in batting average. RF Boots Yellowhair is looking like a legit Steel MVP Award contender, batting .418 with 7 home runs and 20 RBI. Six of the Ghouls are batting over .300 on the season. Pitching could be better since the Ghouls are 4th in runs allowed. Ace Edwin Mass is doing well at 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA, but the other two starters are getting blasted. Finch Farm looked like it was going to take control of the BL a week ago, but things did not go well this past weekend. Still, that broke a string of winning 8 out of their last 9 before that. Against the top, though, the Leafs are a combined 3-6, so they will need to do better against County Crossing (2-4) and The Slog (1-2) to be able to take the division. Finch Farm is 6-0 so far against the bottom three with a trip to Nordhagen Beach and a home series against Salem in the next two weeks. That bodes well for them working their way back into 1st place. In the Institute League, Starlight has a two-game lead over both Sunshine Tidings and Lexington. The rest of the league may not be able to compete for a spot unless some weekends go differently in the second quarter than they did in the first one. Fort Hagen has been up and down, but they seem to be solidly the fourth- or fifth-best team in the division. For the Lady Killers, they are not at the top of much in either offensive or defensive categories, but they are in the top three in almost all categories. They are 2nd in runs scored (88) and 3rd in runs against (64). Ace City Moore has been outstanding, going 4-0 with a 3.13 ERA to start the season, but their second and third starters are not performing well. Chris Schneier, who was 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA was just sent to Mystic Pines for a minor league stretch. Larry Undertaker leads the IL with 8 saves. The 1st through 6th hitters have been consistently solid throughout the season with 2B Wild Cannon leading the team with a .422 average and 1B Willie Qesadana leading in home runs (4) and RBI (12). Lexington has been better at pitching than offense, currently 5th in runs scored (61) and 2nd in runs allowed (48). All three starters are 3-2 with respectable ERAs (Pete Pembroke-2.61, Lawdog Whipple-4.08, and Chris Morgen-2.09). On offense, SS Swift Hendrix has been the leader, batting .345 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI. No one else on the team is batting above .300. The Chemists have been high for most of the season but a recent series loss to Starlight keeps them out of 1st place talks. On offense, Sunshine Tidings has been pretty bad, falling dead last in the IL in runs scored (60). They balance that with leading the league in runs allowed (47). Therefore, they win with low-scoring games. As a sign of that, ace Tony Bertha has a 0.45 ERA, but his record in 3-2. Third starter Bill Sarnacki is 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA. Cleanup hitter CF Frank Corsica is batting .345 with 2 home runs and 11 RBI. The Chemists have hit 12 home runs as a team, good enough for 4th in the IL. The Minutemen League is the one division with a tie for 1st place. Quincy has been consistently good. Goodneighbor has been red hot, though a loss in their last game drops them back into a tie. Right behind both of them is defending league champions, the Warwick Mirelurks. Though University Point has a respectable 7-8 record, they are not in the top talks right now. For Quincy, they had a chance to take true control of the league this past weekend against the Mirelurks, but they dropped the series, their second straight series lost. Still, the Gunners are 4-2 against Warwick on the season and 3-0 against Goodneighbor. The team is 2nd in runs scored (90) and 1st in runs allowed (60), nice round numbers to show a 6-4 outscoring of opponents per game. RF David Driftwood (.328/4/13) and LF Andrew Nuka (.327/4/16) have been leading the offense, while all three starters have pitched well. Ace Matt Ranger is 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA. The Hancocks are surprisingly low in runs scored and allowed. They are 4th in each in the league (87-86), showing they win tight games and lose blowouts. Ace Quincy Eloquent has been pitching the best, going 4-1 with a 3.43 ERA. 1B Bryan Assman have been the best all-around hitter, batting .375 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI. Warwick is surprised not to have a huge lead in the division, but getting swept by the Gunners helped that. The Mirelurks are 1st in scoring (101) and 2nd in runs allowed (73). Three players are batting over .400, with 2B Brad Krol looking like a Minutemen Honorary MVP Award candidate with a .407/6/18 line. Ace John Diner is 4-1 with a 1.76 ERA, which also makes him look like a repeat candidate for the Cannon SP Award.
