1993 MLB Draft
Fausto Buezo was the first draftee, coming out of BYU. He has a ton of potential but is very raw. He will need both his slider and changeup to pan out and he will also need to prove himself to be more durable. Just behind him came this year's Phoenix Amoss MVP award winner - Cody Pearson. He won't win any races but has a great eye and put up monster numbers all three years at UNM. The top high school draftee was Cam Zlassic, whose family owns a pickle company. No, that's Vlasic. He has very well-rounded potential with the bat but is stuck at first base. |

1993 MLB Playoffs
The Royals have now racked up three World Series, but this is their first since 1930. That team had Hall of Famer Arnold Pedersen in his prime.

1993 Hall of Fame
Ezra Barajas, RHP Barajas was a great find out of Mexico for the Cardinals organization and stayed in the elite level of pitching for nearly a decade. He led the league in strikeouts for the first 7 years of his career and in WAR four times. He finished 4th all-time in strikeouts and is firmly in the top 10-15 pitchers all-time. Initial Acquisition: Signed in 1969 with the Cardinals out of Mexico MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 2, J.P. Avila Awards - 4, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 0, All-Star Appearances - 8, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 3880 IP, 1133 BB, 2860 K, 3.56 FIP, 91 FIP-, 68.1 WAR, 71.6 JAWS Colt Thompson, RHP Thompson actually had more strikeouts than Barajas and in fact more strikeouts than anyone. He became the second player to eclipse 3,000 in a career and broke Finn Bishop's record by 66. He had an impressive 6 WAR season at age 34 and then fell apart this year and retired at age 35. He was durable and dominant throughout the entire decade of the 80s. Initial Acquisition: Number 1 overall pick by the Mets out of BYU MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, J.P. Avila Awards - 4, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 1, All-Star Appearances - 5, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 3435 IP, 1007 BB, 3124 K, 3.44 FIP, 88 FIP-, 66.6 WAR, 61.5 JAWS Mason Befort, 2B Befort was well-rounded and finished his career among the third tier of second basemen all-time. He had a long 16-year career and was very capable during that time but never pushed completely into the elite level. He did put up the record for most home runs by a 2B with 291. Initial Acquisition: Number 8 overall pick by the Yankees out of Clemson MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 3, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 3, All-Star Appearances - 5, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 9390 PA, 1898 H, 291 HR, 118 SB, 0.336 wOBA, 112 wRC+, 81.3 ZR, 59.3 WAR, 48.4 JAWS Esteban Arenas, LF Arenas came into the league just as the Red Sox dynasty of the mid-70s was at its peak. He was the MVP of both the AL Division Series and League Championship Series in 1976. His career was definitely front-loaded and by the time he got to his 30s, he became an average player. He led the league twice in hits and once in stolen bases. Initial Acquisition: Signed in 1969 with the Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 2, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 1, All-Star Appearances - 4, World Series Championships - 4, Playoff MVPs - 2 Career Stats: 8552 PA, 2436 H, 71 HR, 493 SB, 0.334 wOBA, 111 wRC+, 104.8 ZR, 52.8 WAR, 43.3 JAWS Afandi Nazari, C Nazari comes close to the Hall of Fame but he would be the lowest-performing catcher in it if so. He put up consistently above-average seasons for a decade, taking a bunch of walks, and staying in the lineup as much as possible. Initial Acquisition: Number 12 overall pick by the Mariners out of Georgetown MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 0, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 4, All-Star Appearances - 4, World Series Championships - 1, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 5684 PA, 1040 H, 107 HR, 1 SB, 0.32 wOBA, 103 wRC+, -1.5 ZR, 31.9 WAR, 28 JAWS Asa Hayward, 3B Initial Acquisition: Number 98 overall pick by the Angels out of Americas High School MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 1, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 2, All-Star Appearances - 2, World Series Championships - 1, Playoff MVPs - 1 Career Stats: 7419 PA, 1914 H, 212 HR, 26 SB, 0.325 wOBA, 105 wRC+, 3.1 ZR, 33.7 WAR, 30.2 JAWS Patrick Widerman, RH Reliever Initial Acquisition: Number 24 overall pick by the Red Sox out of Missouri MLB Awards: Tim Beckman Relief Awards - 3, All-Star Appearances - 4, World Series Championships - 2, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 961 IP, 257 SV, 514 BB, 1006 K, 3.21 FIP, 80 FIP-, 12.8 WPA, 17.8 WAR, 22.2 JAWS Chuck Spink, RHP Initial Acquisition: Number 81 overall pick by the Expos out of Fredonia MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, J.P. 1994 Top 100 Prospects
Heathcliff Jones is still at the top of the heap this year, but he's going to be starting the year in AAA. He's already about ready to go with elite stuff and pretty good movement and control. The top hitter is Lew Lee who was drafted back in 1992 and is now nearly ready in AAA as well. He could possibly set the home run record in his career. |

1994 MLB Draft
Ken Walther, this year's Joe Hubbard winner, was drafted first overall and signed quickly with the Cubs. He has high potential and is almost ready to go. He has even started three games in single-A already with 16 Ks. Sheridan Trice was the first hitter drafted, a solid player with balanced hitting, baserunning, and outfield play. The first high school draftee was Cale Ciraulo, a pitching prospect with a four-pitch mix and stamina for days. |

1994 MLB Playoffs
The Reds stole the title from both the Brewers and the Blue Jays - the latter of which have still yet to win one. The Reds now have two. Their first title was in 1972, led by D.J. Coronado and Gabriel Baldi.

1994 Hall of Fame
Negron D'Angelo, 2B D'Angelo was one of the top players ever to play the game and the best second baseman of all time, although Tomasso Breaux is currently making a run at that distinction. D'Angelo's career was split between the Padres and Phillies and he had borderline Hall of Fame careers with both teams. He did have injury concerns throughout his career, but still, when he was on the field, he was well above average. His worst offensive season was still a 92 wRC+ and his defense was above average throughout his career. Initial Acquisition: Signed in 1973 with the Padres out of Venezuela MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 1, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 3, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 2, All-Star Appearances - 8, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 2 Career Stats: 10223 PA, 2522 H, 133 HR, 595 SB, 0.326 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 130.8 ZR, 75.7 WAR, 60.3 JAWS Gunnar Hinton, 3B Hinton was a consistent 20-30 home run and 30-40 doubles hitter with average to above-average defense. He retired solidly as a hall-of-fame third baseman but not quite at the level of Alonso Carvajal and Jody Davison of the past. He finished second all-time in doubles and third in home runs for third basemen. Initial Acquisition: Number 3 overall pick by the Athletics out of Penn State MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 2, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 2, All-Star Appearances - 2, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 9062 PA, 1923 H, 309 HR, 22 SB, 0.331 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 37.2 ZR, 49.2 WAR, 42.6 JAWS Randy Stevens, 3B Initial Acquisition: Number 10 overall pick by the Orioles out of IMG Academy MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 0, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 2, All-Star Appearances - 2, World Series Championships - 1, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 8495 PA, 2226 H, 129 HR, 69 SB, 0.329 wOBA, 107 wRC+, 19.3 ZR, 43.9 WAR, 37.2 JAWS Simon Samuelson, LHP Initial Acquisition: Number 74 overall pick by the Phillies out of Limestone MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, J.P. 1995 Top 100 Prospects
A lot of pitchers here, we'll see how this pans out. Boas Hansen is tops - he's nearly ready and has elite stuff. The top hitter is center fielder Ian Evans. He should walk a ton and strike out very little. |
