I'm as shocked as anyone that Cubs have become a dynasty.
Thanks for the congratulations. At least there was no controversy in this 1919 World Series.... |

As we dawn a new decade 1920 its been a fun ride so far.
Tigers started the league as one of the top teams to about 1906-7 than droped into the basement for the next 10 years or so.... booo We now hope this year springs our rise back to the top with young guys like pitchers Heintzelman, Smoltz, Grimes and hitters Bench, hart, Groth. Will Van Haltren get to 400 wins?? |

He had an off year in 1918 - ERA of 3.85 was half a run higher than any of his past seasons. I was expecting to say goodbye to him pretty soon.
Then in 1919, at age 38, he comes back with an 18-12 season, dropping his ERA back down to 2.98. He'll need two more good years to hit 400, but I wouldn't bet against him. Not bad for a 2nd round pick. |

June '20 Update
EARLY ON, THE RACES ARE ALREADY INTERESTING
It's still early, but the pennant chases in both the American and National Leagues are shaping up to be good ones. In the AL, the Philadelphia A's have raced off to a .675 winning percentage and five-game edge on the defending champion Red Sox. But with a 13-8 road record (just 9-10) at home, you can expect the Sox to be in the thick of the chase as they will turn it around in Fenway Park, depend on it. The A's aren't hitting much in general, depending on their pitching and speed to win ballgames, but both Mickey Mantle and Bobby Bonds are off to good starts, so if the rest of lineup wakes up, the A's can score in bunches. In the National League, the Brooklyn Dodgers are in the catbird seat - for the moment. As usual the NL race is tight with the second place Cubs (who else?) just a game back and the third-place Cards (under new management) just four back. The Cardinals' resurgence has been "powered" by the other Bonds - Barry - who has hit six homers and leads both leagues in that department (Yankee Harry Stovey has 5 to pace the AL).

Back in 1st, somehow, but the team is getting old. It may be time to rebuild next year.
A couple things to note from around the league:
* EDIT - Now that I look closer. My team is one of the youngest in the league! |

1920 World Series Preview
RED SOX, CARDINALS TO CLASH IN FALL CLASSIC
The Boston Red Sox, still seeking that elusive first World's title, ran up a very solid 94-60 record in 1920 to repeat as American League titlists. They'll be facing a new foe this year in the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards, reborn under new management, won a dogfight for the NL pennant, unseating perennial champion Chicago by a three-game margin. The Red Sox should be the favorites in the Series - a first for them - as they feature the league's best pitching, headed by the immortal Fred Heimach, who looked like the dominant hurler of old as he won 27 ballgames and now has 334 lifetime victories. If there's an Achilles heel for the Sox, it's the offense which had a ho-hum season finishing in the bottom half of the 16 teams in most offensive categories. The Cardinals are a near polar opposite - great offense, pedestrian pitching. The offense revolves around a pair of superb outfielders (Barry Bonds & Andre Dawson) and the league's top offensive shortstop (Robin Yount). All three had great years and will be tough to stop - a fine challenge for Heimach & co. The Cards did have two 20-game winners in southpaws Dave LaRoche and Jim Abbott, but both posted ERAs north of 3.00 - well above the 2.14 of Heimach and 2.74 of Boston's second-best pitcher Greg Minton. Should be an interesting Series.

Cleveland is looking to rebuild.
It has become obvious over the past few seasons, that while we are an above .500 club, we just don't have enough to contend anymore in the AL. Therefore, we are looking to rebuild. We have alot of talented vets at the tailend of their careers, but still with great ratings and producing at a high level, and they can definitely help some of the other contenders get over the hump. The most notable players on the block are C Del Crandell, IFs Jake Stenzel & Jim Lefebvre and OF Billy Goodman as well as SPs Vic Aldridge, Joaquin Andujar and Chief Hogsett. But anyone over 28-29 years old is available with the exception of Dave Orr, who I've decided to be greedy about and let him finish up his amazing career in Cleveland to join Joe D in the HOF as Indians. Obviously would be looking for younger players in deals for any vets. If you're interested in talking trade, the best way to get ahold of me is email. Michaelgsalvia@aol.com

I'll bet Joe has a backup, and I'd also bet it's a DB issue and it's bad programming, unexpected/missing data causes crashes

I do have a backup ![]() I do think it's a database problem with the next rookie class, so that's what I'm looking at fixing. The crash happens during rookie import. So I have to comb through my custom BaTTY database and find the problem. Once I have time to sit down and do that, we'll be back in business.

Joe, some ideas of things to look at first, from past experience with custom DB's.
1. Any of the columns with dates that might have an invalid or missing date, especially debut and birth 2. Name (including nicknames) with special characters (-, quotes, etc.) 3. Columns/fields with no data (not zero's but blanks in numeric fields, might have to Hard Enter a 0) or somehow got a negative number. Those are the 3 biggies I have run across, I know I am a GM but if you want some help looking for it I'd be glad to do it and PROMISE to only look at this years debut guys.
