Rocco (or anyone else if you can), have you rated a British heavyweight called Matt Skelton by any chance? I would never be able to create fighters and make it realistic, so I have to rely on other people creating missing fighters for me! You probably know already but here in Britain, Skelton and Audley Harrison are hoping to fight each other this year and it will be one of the most anticipated British heavyweight bouts of the year. Thanks if you can help me.

Skelton
Dave,
I've not rated Skelton, but the name looks familiar. I'll check my data base when I get home and see if I got him from someone else who may have done him. If not, I'll take a look at him to maybe rate. Rocco |

LHW Mel Brown
Decided to take a stab at rating MR. Brown.
LIght Heavyweight - United States 1945-1955 52 wins / 20 losses / 4 draws / 27 KO Hometown: St. Paul, MN Birthplace: Sioux City, IA Rating by: Rocco Del SEsto In 76 fights, in just under a 10 year period, Brown was KO'd only twice in his career, the 2nd time being his last career fight to Ron Barton(26-5-0,17). Fights that he had against opponents rated in the game were an 8th round KO of Reuben Shank who was winding down his career. He won an 8 round decision against Eddie Cotton who was early in his career. He fought 10 round draws with Albert Finch and Cecil Hudson, then lost a 10 round decision to Hudson. He also lost a 10 round decision to Dave Sands and defeated Jean Stock by 10th round TKO. He lost to Yolande Pompey in 1952, loosing in the 5th round by TKO, his first career stoppage loss. During the prime of his career he fought a number of other opponents with good looking W/L records, not sure what their overall quality of opponents stacks up to be.A busy LHW though Mel Brown was from the mid 40's to mid 50's. |

HW - Matt Skelton
Took a quick shot at rating Skelton. He's the first Active fighter I've attempted. Not sure of myself with these active guys especially with so few fights. He's basically in his Pre-Prime stage I would say.
Any comments on what I got here sure would be appreciated. Rocco |

Dave 1877,
Your mate Skelton is fighting our (Australia's) "Big" Bob Mirovic for the Commonwealth HW title tonight your time in London. I honestly don't know much about Skelton, but hopefully it will be a good fight. FYI Vistaman rated Bob Mirovic lately and here are his ratings (full credit to Vistaman). Cheers, Shane.

1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
Anyone familiar with the origins or early postings on this thread know about the Gerhard Zech replay I was doing as I was going along rating many of the opponents Zech fought along the way. I got as far as him winning the European HW title and then fighting Ali into the 10th round in a fight in 1966 (See the previous postings about how Zech ended up fighting Ali if you don't know!). At that point I was going to continue on with the Zech replay incorporating the HW tournament that was staged by the wBA in 1967-68. Well I never got into that and have been bouncing here and there the past while rating various fighters.
Well, I want to get back to finishing the career of Gerhard Zech but have decided to incorporate that into a long term project that I'm going to start that I've been thinking about and that is to do a replay of the year 1967 in the HW and LHW divisions. I've decided to do the LHW's also because the two intertwine much. Along the way what I'll do is rate the fighters that are not currently done by anyone. This will lead me through also thru the rest of Zech's career and the WBA tournament. So I've started searching through BoxRec. looking through by date the fights in their data base and picking out the HW and LHW's. I did my first fight tonight to get things started. I can see already this is going to take me awhile doing this, but it gives me some direction in doing something fun I thought with the game and continue with rating more fighters from the 1960's which I wanted to do. So first up........ 01/01/67 Great Falls, MT., USA Hugh Mercier – HW, Canada (3-6-0,2KO) vs. Jack Larson – HW, USA (0-0-0) Hugh Mercier 9 wins / 13 losses / 0 draw / 8 KO Hometown: Regina, SK, Canada Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Mercier had a decent looking punch it would appear by his 8KO's out of his 9 wins, but unfortunately he could not take a punch as he was KO'd in 12 of his losses, many of them in the very early rounds of his fights. He was KO'd in the 2nd round by Tony Doyle in June 1963, who was fighting his first professional fight. About a year later, George Chuvalo knocked Mercier out in the first round. His other noteable fights included getting KO'd in the 1st round by Piermario Baruzzi(37-12-0,24KO) in Oct. 1970. Baruzzi would defeat Giuseppe Ros in his next fight to win the Italian HW Title. In March 1971 Mercier was knocked out in 2 by Terry Hinke. He fought and lost to George Jerome in 1974 for the Western Canadian HW Title. Jack Larson 0 wins / 1 loss / 0 draw / 0 KO Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Only career fight was a 2nd round KO loss to Hugh Mercier in January 1967. It’s Larson’s first professional fight. Mercier out of Canada hasn’t shown much promise yet. In this scheduled 8 round affair, Larson comes out taking it to the Canadian in the first two rounds. Mercier comes back though to drop Larson for a short 1 count in the 3rd round and then after controlling the 4th round also, Mercier wins by KO at the 1:24 mark of the 5th round. Next on Jan. 1st, 1967 will be some LHW bouts. Hope you all enjoy this. Here's Mercier's file. |

Jack Larson
Here's Jack Larson's file.
Not much on him in BoxRec. can only guess he's from the US since the fight with Mercier was in MT. There will be a lot of guys like this I'm sure as I go through this replay who are not really worth anything, but, usefull for using in help rating some of these lower echelon fighters I guess. 1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
01/01/67
Mayfair, London, England Harry Scott-MW, UK (24-18-4) vs. Johnny Hendrickson-LHW, UK (10-8-3) Johnny Hendrickson - UK Light Heavyweight 1962-68 12 wins / 14 losses / 4 draws / 9 KO Hometown: London, England Birthplace: St. Kitts, BWI Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Hendrickson fought some fairly tough looking opponents throughout his career. In his 3rd career fight he squared off against Jack Bodell who was 8-1-0 thus far early in his career. Hendrickson was handled fairly easily though as Bodell won a 4th round TKO. Later opponents included a 7th round TKO win over Stan Cullis, a 2nd round KO win over Pekka Kokkonen, a draw and a win over a Bob Nicholson(19-7-3,9KO), and an 8 round decision over Leweni Waga(25-15-1,16). He lost fights though to Middleweight Freddie Cross(24-8-1,7) two times, to Billy Lotter(29-7-0,9), to Harry Scott in the Jan. 1967 fight. He lost three straight fights to Eddie Avoth(44-9-0,20) and John (Young) McCormack(33-8-1,27) both of whom held the British Light Heavyweight Title. McCormacK held the title when he fought Hendrickson. Hendrickson also between the Avoth and McCormack fights fought an 8 round draw with Giulio Rinaldi. Harry Scott - UK Middleweight 1960-1973 39 wins / 34 losses / 6 draws / 20 KO Hometown: Bootle, Liverpool, England Birthplace: Liverpool, England Won the vacant British Central Area Middleweight Title in Sept. 1962. Lost in the final eliminator bout in May 1964 for the British Middleweight Title to Wally Swift and lost again in the final eliminator for that title in May 1970 to Bunny Sterling. The attached website leads you to a story on Cyber Boxing Zone written by Harry Otty. It is a great piece on the boxing career for Scott. (Scott is rated in the game. I'm attaching an updated fighter file with the bio info and the website link) The bout...... After coming out slow and a bit cautious in the first round of this scheduled 8 round bout, Harry Scott takes control of the fight over the next 5 rounds to build himself a lead that looked to be earning him a comfortable win. In the last two rounds though, Hendrickson fights back to win those round on two of the judges score cards. No knockdowns in this fight that was overall not overall that exciting to watch. Final judges scorecards: Judge 1 76-76 Tie, Judge 2 77-75 Scott, Judge 3 79-73 Scott Winner by Majority Decision : Harry Scott. |

1967 Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Replay
01/01/67
Rosario, Argentina Adolfo Cardozo – LHW, Argentina (0-0-0), vs. Roque Esquivel – LHW, Argentina (0-0-0) A couple of light heavies starting out their careers here in Rosario. Adolfo Cardozo - Argentina Light Heavyweight 1967-74 25 wins / 11 losses / 3 draws / 21 KO Birthplace: Buenos Aires, Capital Federal, Argentina Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Cardozo fought his entire career in Argentina. He started out 18-0-0,16KO's including his first career fight against Roque Esquivel in Jan. 1967. The combined record of these first 18 opponents at the time they fought Cardozo were 6-74-0! The last half of his career he started to fight some guys that at least had some careers to them, and he lost 11 of the final 21 fights. After loosing to Gabino Bay who is 7-0-1 at the time but whom Cardozo would beat twice later in thier careers, Adolfo fights a young new fighter on the boxing scene, one Victor Emilio Galindez. When the two meet in Jan. 1970, it is just Galindez's 4th career fight holding a 2-0-1 record. Galindez puts Cardozo out in the 5th round. Those two losses to Bay and Galindez mark the downturn in Adolfo's career showing he would never be able to beat much other then the very bottom of the Argentinian LHW class. In April 1970 he fought South American and soon to be WBA/WBC Middleweight Champion, Carlos Monzon(87-3-9,59). Monzon stopped Cardozo in the 3rd round. The only other two opponents worth noting. In July and again in October 1971 he first lost a 10 round decision and then lost by 6th round TKO to Juan Aguilar who was then Agrentian Light Heavyweight Champ. In August, 1972 Cardozo fought his last real fight, and actually a very good one like Monzon rated in the game. That opponent being Victor Emilio Galindez. At the time, Galindez had just won his last 3 fights, including one that earned him the Argentinian LHW Title. That title fight brought his career record actually to a less then spectactular 14-6-3. Galindez TKO'd Cardozo in the 4th round and that started a 41-3-1 streak over the rest of Galindez's career that included South American and WBA LHW Titles. For Cardozo it just meant a couple more years and 4 more fights against nobodys to finish his career. Roque Esquivel - Argentina Light Heavyweight - 1967 0 wins / 1 loss / 0 draw / 0 KO Lost by 4th round TKO in only recorded fight in Jan. 1967 against Adolfo Cardozo in Rosario, Argentina. Only info in BoxRec. Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto The Fight....... Not knowing what to expect in this fight, the crowd are here to see if they may be watching the start of any new championship careers in the South American boxing world. It turns out to be ho hum affair. Cardozo and Esquivel come out in the first round and do a lot sparring and circling around the ring to the displeasure of the crowd. Most punches that both fighters launch miss their marks. The first round ends pretty much a dead heat. The 2nd round starts out without much more excitement. For the first minute, a few more missed punches and circling round. Then all of a sudden, Cardozo lands a hard punch to Esquivel’s ribcage and Roque crumbles to the canvas. Did he really get hit that hard or did he just decide this business of boxing was not his thng and Esquivel stays down for a 10 count into oblivion never to fight again. Final line score in this one, a KO for Adolfo Cardozo at the 1:19 mark of the 2nd round. In the real thing in 1967 Cardozo won by TKO in the 4th. |

Rocco -- During the Zech career, did you ever adjust his ratings from the original post? I notice that you say he is rated a 3 but when all the stats are entered the computer rates him a 2.
