And I was about to reply to something to make the 5000th as well. I don't just write "5,000th post in the thread" to get it.

Oh well, theasfl deserves it more than me I guess.

Certainly is, but if Croatia play like that again, they will have no hope of beating the Aussies.

(and that was going to be numero 5000  )

Oh well, I'm not as vain as he is.

It could have been better IMO. If the Croatia penalty had gone in, then Japan would have had to come out of their shell more.

Croatia looks like they really need a good striker.

They certainly do, but unlike a lot of other people I'd heard, I didn't think they were that good a team anyway.
I think they'll be like the Japanese on the first plane back to Zagreb.

Yeah a goal would have made it more exciting, but I thought it was pretty open, there was some decent football, seemed to flow quite well. Of course everyone was so knackered in the last 15-20 mins that it slowed down quite a bit, but I like those sort of games, where it comes down to strength and fitness and players really have to push themselves just to get up to jogging speed.

If he was that concerned he should have been prepared to step in to make it then...

This might be the first time in years that the final eight are all soccer powerhouses

They look like a solid team. Strong but without much inspiration. They need another Alan Boksic and a cultured midfielder.

It was pretty open, but neither side really ever looked like having someone to put the ball in the back of the net.
Having said that it had two of the funniest moments of the WC so far, with Kawaguchi nearly seeing the ball bounce over his boot and into the net, and then Yanagisawa's open goal miss that went six yards wide, so it probably wasn't too bad having thought about it.

Can someone tell me why the USA only had 9 people on the field for part of the game? I know 2 people got red carded, but don't they have a bench?

I'm not sure about France and Italy, but the rest I would probably agree with.
