Cards news: Nov. 30 -- Cardinals and Phillies swing major five-player deal

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired left fielder Gary Plummer and right-handed pitcher Robby Vasquez from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for two-time Cy Young winner Thomas White, outfielder Bob Lankford and minor league outfielder Steve Paddock.
The 25th-pick in the first round of the 2031 draft by the Phillies, the 26-year-old Plummer hit .294 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs in 57 games/55 starts last season after starting the season at AAA Leigh Valley.
In a 2034 callup, Plummer got into 55 games/51 starts for Philadelphia and hit .267 with 14 home runs and 33 RBIs.
Over his two stints in the majors, Plummer has played in 112 games/106 starts and hit .281 with 30 homers and 76 RBIs.
Vasquez, 26, earned a full-time job in the Phillies rotation in 2035 going 12-8 with a 4.27 ERA in 33 starts.
Overall, Vasquez has pitched in 105 MLB games/89 starts and gone 27-28 with a 4.42 ERA and two saves.
A two-time Cy Young winner while pitching for Miami, White, 31, had two really good seasons with St. Louis going 25-17 with a 2.93 ERA over 61 starts.
However, he missed five starts in 2033 and saw his record go from 17-6 with a 2.76 ERA in 2033 to 8-11 with a 3.17 ERA in 2035.
White also is in the final year of a contract which will pay him $39.5 million this season.
A highly-touted prospect when acquired from the Chicago White Sox before the 2033 season, Lankford had a good 2034 season -- hitting .25 with 14 home runs and 75 RBIs in 152 games/144 starts -- but faded badly in 2035 when he hit just .210 with eight home runs and 43 RBIs in 134 games/119 starts.
The acquisition of Plummer meant Lankford would be nothing but a backup this season.
An eighth-round draft pick in 2033, Paddock, 22, has been one of the Cardinals top prospects but to get quality you have to give up quality leading to the decision to include him in the trade.

Cards news: Dec. 2 -- SS Felix Morrobel acquired in deal with Angels

The St. Louis Cardinals have added shortstop Felix Morrobel to their roster in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels with first baseman Mike Bruenderman and second baseman Justin Henderson heading West.
After breaking in with the Seattle Mariners in 2027 and spending parts of three seasons in Oakland, Morrobel has played the last two years with the Angels.
Last season, the 30-year-old played in 144 games hitting .255 with four home runs and 53 RBIs.
For his career, Marrobel has 804 MLB games/724 starts under his belt, during which he has hit .261 with 42 home runs and 254 RBIs.
A 12th-round pick in the 2028 draft, the Cardinals had high hopes for Bruenderman, 25, who put up big numbers in the minors.
But given an opportunity in the majors over the past two-plus seasons, he has not shown much hitting just .145 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 49 games/38 starts.
Signed as a minor league free agent after playing with Washington 2034, Henderson spent most of the 2035 season at AAA Memphis.
In 35 games/25 starts with St. Louis, he hit .200 with four home runs and 11 RBIs.

Cards news: Dec. 14 -- IF Nick Yorke goes to KC for 3B Cooper Pratt

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired third baseman Cooper Pratt from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for infielder Nick Yorke.
Both teams will eat half the salary on the players in the deal.
Pratt, 31, broke into the majors in 2027 and has played with Milwaukee, the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks, the Rockies, Braves and Royals.
In 2035, while in K.C., he hit .258 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs in 142 games/141 starts.
He will be a free agent at season's end.
The Cardinals acquired Yorke as a free agent signing in the 2034-35 offseason.
His 2035 was nothing special as he hit just .242 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs in 93 game/86 starts.
He also missed a significant amount of time with a labrum injury.

Cards news: Dec. 14 -- IF/OF Charles McAdoo sent to Angels for three minor leaguers

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded veteran IF/OF Charles McAdoo to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league outfielder Pat Martinez, first baseman Sergio Diaz and third baseman Ricardo Mendoza.
Acquired in a mid-season trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, McAdoo had a couple of solid seasons until 2031 when he got his big contract after that.
He did make an impact -- ranking among the best baserunners in the league but overall was not the same player.
In 2035, McAdoo, hit .241 with 15 home runs, 56 RBIs and 40 stolen bases.
Over his time with St. Louis, encompassing 1,058 games/99 starts, he hit .271 with 22 home runs and 107 RBIs.
But with the changes the Cardinals have made over the past few seasons, there was no place for McAdoo to start and with his price tag.
Something had to be done.
Martinez, 24, has yet to reach the majors.
Acquired in a 2034 trade with the Phillies, Martinez hit .248 with 11 home runs and 65 RBIs in 112 games/92 starts at AAA Tacoma in 2035.
A 24-year-old first baseman, Diaz played at AA Arkansas in 2023 and hit .249 with two home runs and 24 RBIs in 74 games/73 starts.
The 23-year-old Mendoza also spent the season at Arkansas and hit .333 with six home runs and 41 RBIs in 91 games/68 starts.

Cards news: July 7 -- RHP Nick Becker sent to Mets as part of five-player deal (Part 1)

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired a pair of minor leaguers from the New York Mets -- center fielder Salvador Maldonaldo and second baseman Dan Bourland -- in exchange for right-handed starting pitcher Nick Becker, infielder Nazzan Zanetello and minor-league right-hander Sal Aquino.
Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2029, the 23-year-old Maldonaldo split 2035 between AA Binghamton and AAA Syracuse.
In 69 games, he hit .312 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs.
The 22-year-old Bourland, who the Mets took with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2031 draft, also split 2035 between AA and AAA.
In 111 games, he hit just .225 but hit 12 home runs and drove in 49.
Taken with the 21st pick of the 2033 draft by St. Louis, Becker earned a spot in the Cardinals rotation coming out of spring training in 2035.
But it didn't work out, as he went 1-6 with a 7.44 ERA in 10 starts.
In 21 games/20 starts with the Cardinals, Becker is 1-14 with a 6.35 ERA.
The Cardinals signed Zantello as a free agent before the 2035 season.
The 30-year-old split time between AAA Memphis and the majors.
With the Cardinals, he hit .208 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 49 games/32 starts.
