"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Beltran and that doomed us," said Trojans manager Mario Maez. "Hats off to UConn, though. That was a great series." Wildcard Goes the Distance, Villanova Prevails:
Mark one up for the Villanova Wildcats. In the crucial final game, they put away the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 4-3 at Bainton Field to win the Wildcard, 2-1 and advance to the Regionals. Although his team came up short, Rutgers's Roy Oswalt was named the series MVP, with many of the league media feeling the series would have been over much sooner if not for his contributions. "Oswalt did a lot to keep Rutgers in it, no doubt about that," said Wildcats manager Josh Cook. The Villanova Wildcats will play against the Duke Blue Devils in the next round. Duke won their series against the North Alabama Lions 2 games to 0. The Regionals schedule will be announced after the Wildcard finishes. |
