Calzaghe goes to 10-0...
Joe Calzaghe, UK, 9-0-0 (8) vs. Denver Ed Smith, UK, 9-4-0 (5)
The Pride of Wales makes his debut under his new management team, the U.K. Boxing Group. Joe will also be under the sole guidance of his father for the first time in the professional ranks, which played a big part in the partnership with his new group. Calzaghe starts off fast and does a fine job of avoiding Smith’s attack, 12-4. The 2nd is the same as the previous round, 12-4, as Smith has trouble landing any relevant blows. Calzaghe lands a three-punch combo followed by a humbling cross that momentarily stuns Denver Ed. Joe takes the 4th, 22-3. Denver Ed just cannot get off first as he is always eating leather, 4-14, here in the 5th. The fight slows down in the 6th as both fighters do more holding than punching. A combination puts Smith down at the end of the 8th but Denver Ed is able to get up and finish the round. Calzaghe is in complete control, 19-1, here in the 10th, as Smith looks completely drained at this point. 17-4 in favor of Calzaghe in the 11th. Calzaghe completely dominates the last four rounds as the fight goes to the cards for the second time in his pro career. Winner: Calzaghe Result: (UD15) Cards: 149-135, 149-135, 147-138, all in favor of Calzaghe. Punch stats: 44.4% - 29.3% Calzaghe |

NZ National Tournament...
The board of the New Zealand Boxing Association has sent out invitations to the 20 heavyweight fighters that they feel are qualified to represent their nation in the World Cup of Boxing. A letter has been sent to Billy Goat Promotions, care of George Stankovich. The only information available at this time is that hot prospect, Shane Cameron will definitely participate and current NZBA Champion, Harry Laing, will not.

Impressive debut for Joe under U.K. Boxing Group. We are hopeful that his next bout will be against a ranked opponent.

We have decided that it would be too soon for George to get into the ring with the level of competition that is sure to be competing in the NZ tourney. Call us chicken bu we have a very specific plan for George and this really does not enter into it yet
