Maine has been pitching brilliantly. I really liked him coming here in that trade before but then he got injured but I think he's going to be good in the rotation.

Pedro is not the pitcher he used to be it, albeit he is still very very good. 6-7 innings is all he's going to give the Mets in the playoffs. I do think the Mets have a top notch batting lineup though. Reyes (Who has surprised me greatly this year), Lo Duca, Delgado, Beltran, Wright, and Floyd is a very tough lineup for any pitcher. We'll just have to wait and see how they do in the playoffs. Last edited by jmaness84; 08-06-2006 at 10:01 PM. |

Contract concerns. . .
Was looking at some numbers:
Since David Wright and Jose Reyes are locked up at a fairly low salary next year, I won't think too much about 2007. But look at 2008: 2008: Jose Reyes: $4m David Wright: $5m Billy Wagner: $10m Pedro Martinez: $13m Carlos Delgado: $13m+ (Thinking it is 16 or 17m actually) Carlos Beltran: $18.5m 6 players: 63.5 million. Scary. It's a good thing that Glavine's contract is up and the new stadium is up that year. In 2009. Martinez and Delgado are off the books, so the increase in Wright's and Reyes' contracts are minor by comparison.

Of course, the year you're referring to is 1999...when the Braves had a higher payroll than the Mets. And that, by your previously espoused logic, must mean they BOUGHT THE WINS!!! And we know how much you hate that. Cheers! GH |

Nice job by the crowd at Shea for Piazza. A standing O pregame, another long one for his first at bat. Nice touch playing "Voodoo Child" for him when he came up, too, even if he's for the opposition.
I know why the move was made, but I miss the guy. GH |

That was good to see. Piazza deserved a good ovation for what he did for the franchise. It's too bad his last few years were so crappy, what with injuries, the f'd up move to first and the rumors that went around a few years ago.

He's got himself a nice scoreless streak going. Should be interesting to see how long he can keep it up tonight. |

Sample size may be small, but Milledge continues to look thoroughly lost in the outfield. The guy takes the wrong route to every single ball.
This isn't about torching his future or potential, but right now, this kid is seriously overmatched at this level. GH |

How many times has someone hit 3 HR in a losing effort? I can't imagine it's happened a lot.

Bumping this thread.
I'm starting to buy into the hype. If the Mets don't make it to the series, it may be a dissapointment.

If the Mets have Martinez and Glavine healthy and don't make the Series, it's absolutely a disappointment. No question. GH |
