LAZARUS "GERMANY" DAVID, SS, BROOKLYN PERFECTOS, 35 Years Old - David turned 35 this season and some fans are expecting retirement in the near future, but he keeps rolling along. He could pass 1000 stolen bases next season, so he does have a goal in sight....not to mention an appearance in the World Series.

CORWIN "CRAFTY" CARLSON, SP, BROOKLYN PERFECTOS, 34 Years Old - Crafty was put back in the rotation, surprising many fans. He could have had his first 20 win season if he hadn't been injured 3 times for a total of 2 months.

JOSEPH "CHOP" TEMPKIN, SP, CHICAGO COLTS, 24 Years Old - Chop had one of the most dominating seasons by a pitcher ever, setting a new CL mark for wins with 30. At 24, he already has 129 wins. By the time he retires, he could be the winningest pitcher of all time. Hopefully we didn't jinx him by saying that.

Do a little research on him. You may see why. He was quite the "controversial figure".

I've got some interesting plans if he gets chosen. Of course I have interesting plans for each of the candidates.

1919 WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

CONTINENTAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: CHICAGO COLTS (92-62)

Team Batting Average: .283 (6th)
Team ERA: 3.58 (2nd)

Top Batters:
Crush Holloway - .326, 14 HR, 86 RBI, 18 SB
Irish Meusel - .293, 10 HR, 101 RBI
Victor Hurka - .310, 7 HR, 64 RBI
Jack Fournier - .342, 11 HR, 96 RBI
Louis Santop - .317, 71 RBI

Top Pitchers:
Joseph Tempkin - 30-7, 2.35 ERA, 242 K
Johnny McGraw - 17-9, 2.87 ERA, 281 K
Chief Chouneau - 14-5, 3.47 ERA

FEDERAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: BUFFALO BARONS (95-59)

Team Batting Average: .280 (7th)
Team ERA: 3.52 (1st)

Top Batters:
Clint Thomas - .361, 85 RBI
George "Highpockets" Kelly - .304, 7 HR, 99 RBI
George Harper - .297, 9 HR, 84 RBI
Sam Kingma - .308, 17 HR, 102 RBI

Top Pitchers:
Walter Johnson - 29-10, 1.89 ERA, 279 K
Jose Mendez - 21-13, 4.47 ERA, 216 K
Bill Drake - 22-9, 3.46 ERA, 305 K

At the very least, the battles between Chop Tempkin and Walter Johnson should be the stuff of legend. Otherwise, Chicago is more solid offensively and Buffalo has a better bottom half of the rotation, as well as a bit more experience in the posts eason. It should go to 7 games, but the Barons will likely prevail.

PREDICTION: Barons in 7

1919 WORLD SERIES

10/1/1919 - GAME 1 BARONS 1 - COLTS 5

Victor Hurka slapped a 2 out 2RBI double off Jose Mendez in the bottom of the 1st to spark a 3 run rally for the Colts and that's all they would need to take Game 1.

10/2/1919 - GAME 2 BARONS 4 - COLTS 0

Walter Johnson won Round 1 of the faceoff with Joseph Tempkin, but despite the disparity in the score, it was much closer than it seemed, with 3 of Buffalo's runs unearned. Johnson allowed only 2 hits and Chop allowed only 4. George Harper led Buffalo with 2 hits and 2 RBI.

10/4/1919 - GAME 3 COLTS 2 - BARONS 3

Back in Buffalo, the Barons squeaked out Game 3 on an 5th inning RBI single from Veteran catcher Red Murray. Bill Drake shut down the Colts the rest of the way, allowing only 3 hits.

10/5/1919 - GAME 4 COLTS 6 - BARONS 2, 11 innings

The Colts broke open a 2-2 tie in the 11th inning on back-to-back homers by Crush Holloway and Joe Schultz, tying the series up at 2 games apiece.

10/6/1919 - GAME 5 COLTS 2 - BARONS 11

In their 2nd matchup, the Barons took Joseph Tempkin out to the shed and spanked him for 15 hits and 7 runs in 4 innings. That was all Walter Johnson needed as he pitched a complete game, leaving Buffalo one win away from the crown.

10/8/1919 - GAME 6 BARONS 1 - COLTS 2

Louis Santop launched a 2 run bomb in the 1st inning and Snipe Conley held off the Barons the rest of the way, forcing a Game 7 in front of the home fans.

10/9/1919 - GAME 7 BARONS 1 - COLTS 0

Johnny McGraw held the Barons to only one run, but Jose Mendez did him one better, shutting out the Colts in a complete game, not to mention hitting the game-winning RBI to lead the Barons to their first crown.
