Ehh, mebbe the ump deferred to Teixeira's magnificent eye at the plate.

Teixeira is scary in how much he improves each season. After K'ing once every 4.76 at bats in his first three seasons, Tex has whiffed only twice in 48 at bats in 2006.

Pretty standard lineup tonight, except for the fact that DJ is missing after Macha said repeatedly he'd be in there tonight. And he still feels the need to bat Ellis leadoff when he's hitting .167.

Ellis 2B
Kotsay CF
Crosby SS
Chavez 3B
Thomas DH
Bradley RF
Swisher 1B
Payton LF
Melhuse C

Duh, if there is a club that would not put too much stake in hot/cold streaks, it'd be this one!

Well Macha likes to say all the time that "the players write the lineup." If that were the case, Ellis would be down at #8 or #9 and Swish would be up at #2.

Maybe he's read the studies about how lineups don't really matter that much, and literally let the players write the lineup. Ellis just got to the ballpark earlier and called #2.

Nice to see our hottest hitter batting eighth.

Batting under .200 so far but has come up with some big hits regardless. Very happy to have him.

Not only is he helping the A's with that hot stick, but my fantasy teams too.... just when Chavy started to cool off a little from his hot start (another player on my fantasy team), Swisher picks it up right where he left off it looks like....

Loaiza... I am probably one of the few in this thread who think he will have a few more of those "quality starts" this year.... i actually don't think he was that bad of a signing for a #4 starter! he pitched pretty consistently last year even if it was in pitcher-"very" friendly RFK... he also pitched well in '02 or '03 (whichever one) for Chicago in a hitter-friendly park.... i really think he can keep his ERA around or below 4.25 and put up a decent W-L record... he usually has a pretty good amount of K's and is pretty much "middle of the pack" when it comes to walks.... hopefully we'll see a few more starts like tonight's over his next couple of outings though...

Nice, Street shook off the BS.

Loaiza looked good compared to his first 2 starts.

First of all, Loaiza ahead of Blanton as the #4 starter is a prime example of Macha being a little slow. As for his 2003 season, he added a cut fastball that year and basically just baffled hitters who were used to pounding him. He was also throwing 94ish then.

I think a .500 record and a 4.50 ERA will be what we should expect from Loaiza. If he can do that, I'll be happy with him.

As for Swish, so, so sweet. I'd still like him batting higher in the order so he can get more PAs. Why is Crosby batting third? A career .425 SLG should not be in that spot.
