Totally agree, De Rossi hmmm least a 3 match ban as it was violent play personally I'd go with a 6 match ban.

They also faced nine men on a field built for eleven. No excuse in my book.

But anyway, the Americans ruled tonight, and I'm so glad I didn't have to put that table up with you on no points. That referee didn't deserve to eliminate you on his own.

As I said, if the referee hadn't done a complete about turn in the second half, where he hardly booked anyone, we had a repeat of the '62 "Battle of Santiago" on the cards. And that involved Italy (against Chile) dragging the game into the mud with their antics as well.

Has anyone seen the message at the top of the referee's Wikipedia page?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Larrionda

Am I surprised...?

EDIT - and the number of changes during the game:

We wanted a point. We got a point. Complaints are no longer allowed. Let us beat Ghana. Go Italy. End of story.

Well put. A gutsy effort by the USA. The pressure is on now, but the team seems to play best that way.

yeah...they played with 10 for far longer than the Americans played with 9 and they were just as exhausted as we were...after about 70 minutes you knew there wouldn't be anything but end to end chances due to exhaustion.

If the Czechs and Italians tie, we've got goal differential hell.

You mean the Dusty Baker of soccer?

Actually, I have no right to say that. I've read opposing opinions about him and for one thing, I can certainly say that he wants to win. But doesn't every coach?

That being said, I'd like to point out that after reading about the Beasley/Arena differences and all, it seemed that Arena is right about Beasley's lack of aggressiveness. He's a fast guy, but it appeared he could have shown more effort on his touches. At least, from what I saw in the match today, I felt there could have been more from him when he came in as a sub.

What a lucky goal. That's about it. What else can one say about a shin scrape into one's own net? The TV I saw the match on was so blurry (rabbit ears) that it was hard to see the screen. I think I saw a stat that said no team has every even scored a goal when they were down to nine men, so the Americans must have all been carrying a rabbit's foot.

The first half seemed to be played on Italy's half of the field (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but the second half was mostly on the American side. It was a great game.

Just now got home to comment:

1. As all have said, horrific referee. The red card to De Rossi is spot on, the one to Mastroeni was utter bull****. He deserved a yellow for sure. I'm less upset about Pope, he played poor and got 2 yellows. Idiot. Still the middle red card might be the worst I've ever seen.

2. The US outplayed the Italians before they went down 10-9.

3. I have no idea who wins in Italy/Czech match up. Ugh

4. If we play like we did today, Ghana goes down.

5. So close to the win.

That Goalie/screen call is all that stands between 3 points and one.
