1932 World Series results...
1932 World Series: Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Giants
Game 1, September 28th, 1932, the Polo Grounds Cleveland Takes World Series Opener, 5-1 Leave it to the veteran. The Cleveland Guardians got a great start from 36-year-old left-hander Tom Zachary, as Cleveland won the contest, 5-1, at Polo Grounds. Zachary threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball in the win, which allowed the Cleveland to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Zachary gave Cleveland a solid start. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 7 hits over 9 innings. "It has been an incredible experience today," Zachary said in the clubhouse following the game. "It's a short list of people who have started in the World Series at all, and an even shorter list who have done a good job of it." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at the Polo Grounds in New York. Guardians lead series 1-0 Game 2, September 29th, 1932, the Polo Grounds Cleveland Pins 8-7 Loss on New York With shortstop Joe Cronin leading the charge, the Cleveland Guardians got past the New York Giants, 8-7, in extra innings in Game 2 of the World Series. Cronin was 3-5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs at Polo Grounds as Cleveland managed to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cleveland used the hitting of Al Simmons to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Guardians on top, 8-7. For the game, Simmons had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats. "We're one game closer to our goal," Cleveland manager Rube Oldring said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that." Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland. Guardians lead series 2-0 Game 3, October 1st, 1932, Cleveland Stadium New York Breaks Through for First Win in World Series; Now Trails 2-1 Already down in the World Series, the New York Giants put on their best show, beating the Cleveland Guardians by a final score of 2-1. Vic Sorrell was special. He threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. New York now trails Cleveland 2-1 in the best-of-7 affair. Sorrell delivered a quality start for New York. The 5-foot-10 right-hander allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits over 9 innings of work. "Tough loss," said Cleveland manager Rube Oldring. "This one will sting for a while." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland. Guardians lead series 2-1 Game 4, October 2nd, 1932, Cleveland Stadium C Hogan Lights Up Giants for 5 RBIs as Guardians Extend Lead Riding the 4-hit performance of catcher Shanty Hogan, the Cleveland Guardians stopped the visiting New York Giants, 16-3, in Game 4 of the World Series. Hogan was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Guardians, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 1. Mel Ott helped his team take an early lead with a 2-run triple. It came in the first inning, making the score 2-0, Guardians. "The only guys more tired than my bullpen are the scoreboard operators," Giants manager Larry Cheney said after the blowout loss. "That was ugly." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland. Guardians lead series 3-1 Game 5, October 3rd, 1932, Cleveland Stadium World Series to Cleveland The Cleveland Guardians are champions, today and forever. The Guardians topped the New York Giants 13-12 at Cleveland Stadium today to claim the World Series crown. "Nobody can take this away from us, not ever," said series MVP and catcher Shanty Hogan after his club had sealed the victory. "We worked hard and we accomplished our goal." The atmosphere was electric as the newly-crowned champs stormed the field at the conclusion of the game. Fans cheered, gloves flew in the air, high fives and hugs were the order of the day. "From day one of spring training, I could see it in their eyes," said Cleveland manager Rube Oldring. "The players had that look of intensity, of hunger, of a desire to accomplish something great, and today they did that. They're champions of the world." The Guardians took the series 4-1. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the AL and a 100-54 record. Guardians win series 4-1 World Series MVP: C Shanty Hogan (Cleveland Guardians) |

July 6th, 1933
All Star-Game, July 6th, Yankee Stadium Hoyt Dominates in 2-0 Win over NL All-Stars The best players the MLB has to offer took to Yankee Stadium tonight for an all-star showcase. When the dust settled, the AL bested the NL by a score of 2-0. Helping the AL to victory was Waite Hoyt, who said it's a memory he'll cherish. "You can tell your kids and your grandkids someday that you were the MVP of the all-star game, that's a cool moment," he said. All-Star Game Player of the Game: P Waite Hoyt (Chicago White Sox) |
