The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and third baseman Nolan Arenado are winners of National League Silver Sluggers.
It is the sixth Silver Slugger for Goldschmidt and his second since joining the Cardinals.
The 36-year-old batted .302 with 39 homers, 108 RBIs and 114 runs scored in 153 games/152 starts in 2023.
For Arenado, it also is the sixth Silver Slugger of his career and his second since coming to St. Louis.
Arenado batted .276 with 31 homers, 120 RBIs and 89 runs scored in 149 games in 2023.

After attempting multiple ways of getting past the arbitration glitch, I finally figured it out.
I held the arbitration hearings on the first day of the offseason.
It worked -- we got screwed by the judges -- but at least it worked.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that Sang-young Jung will be their bench coach beginning with the 2024 season.
Jung, 44, replaces Dave Valle who retired after the 2023 season.

The St. Louis Cardinal have selected 27-year-old left-handed relief pitcher Jose Castillo in the first-round of the Rule 5 Draft.
Castillo was signed as an international free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to the San Diego Padres on Dec. 19, 2014.
Castillo pitched in the majors during the 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 season for San Diego.
In 2023, he appeared in 11 games posting no record but earning one save while posting a 0.00 ERA over 11.1 innings. He struck out 17 batters in that span and post a 0.62 WHIP.
For his career, Castillo has pitched in 50 majors league games owning a 3-3 record with the one save and a 2.63 ERA.
He has worked a total of 51.1 innings, during which he has struck out 72 and posted a 0.88 WHIP.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing for 33-year-old right-handed pitcher William Cuevas to a three-year contract.
Cuevas spent the 2023 season with the New York Yankees going 14-4 in 39 games/22 start with a 3.39 ERA.
Prior to that, he pitched in the Korean Baseball League for five seasons going 33-13 in 81 starts.
He also has spent time with Boston and Detroit in the majors.
In 52 career games in MLB, 23 starts, he owns a 14-7 record with a 4.04 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals have completed a trade with the Texas sending outfielder Tyler O'Neill and minor-league starting pitcher Dionys Rodriguez to the Rangers in exchange for minor leaguers starting pitcher Jack Leiter and second baseman Thomas Saggese.
After a breakout season in 2021, O'Neill managed to start just 111 games for the Cardinals over the last two seasons because of injuries.
With that, he feel behind in the competition for starting spots in the corner positions with the emergence of Lars Nootbaar and Dylan Carlson along with top prospect Jordan Walker.
In his time with St. Louis, O'Neill batted .244 with 74 homers and 118 RBIs over 429 games/209 starts. He also won a pair of Gold Gloves for his defense.
Rodriguez, a 23-year-old right-hander, spent most of last season at AA Springfield where he went 6-8 with a 4.69 ERA in 21 starts.
He was signed by St. Louis as an international free agent in 2018.
Leiter, the son of former major league pitcher Al Leiter, was drafted in the first round by Teas in the 2021 draft.
He spent most of the 2023 season at high-A, where he went 6-3 in 15 starts with a 3.20 ERA.
Leiter struggled at AAA Round Rock, posting no decisions but an 11.00 ERA in two starts.
A fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft by the Rangers, Saggese spent 2023 at High-A, where he hit .288 with 32 homers and 102 RBIs in 127 games.
