I already had redone Frank Dwyer, so no before picture in my game to post but here's what I have and the pic I likely used...

I like to think that in the 1890's, the newspapermen used adjectives like "the dapper, clean-shaven Dwyer lined a double to right and the dandy would later score on Barnes' single..."

He looks the type you'd be happy to marry your daughter.

The before for Frank Fennelly didn't have his mustache but every on-line photo I found of him did, so I tried redoing the facegen so as to include the mustache instead of trying to better colorize the one in my game... So, here's Frank...

Frank would be most pleased with the repro-mo you've given him.

Thanks bud, great work.

Hi,again

So, who's holding down the 2B job for the Lake Mistakes, nowadays? Ken Barton and his Magnificent Mustache? Gary "Take the Money and Run" Hinson?

Nope, neither of them. It's Mike Bucci, who's not related to Dom Fucci. (Although if Cleveland could work a swap, they'd probably think that would be Gucci.)

IRL, Bucci hit a lot of singles in the Rangers system (.331 at AAA Tucson in 1978, with an .897 OPS) but was traded away "just before I took over" on January 4, 1980, as partial payment for Jim Norris. (Larry McCall and Gary Gray also went Lake-ward in that package, which didn't win any trophies, it turned out.)

The Mistakes of the Lake welcome Mike Bucci. That '78 import of him isn't bad. I just started a 1979 franchise and am at the '80 AS Game. Bucci is manning 3rd in AAA for Texas at age 27. But nice to see some of the ones I made for you scattered about the league. I have a list of a couple hundred major leaguers from the 1979 rosters I've decided to redo. Maybe i'll check again mid-80s and see who needs redo's as well. Usually I have the game model the talent to the actual year so players mirror history. Using the game engine this time. Should be interesting who pops and who falters. Lynn and Rice are signed long-term. Traded for Lance Parrish who was crushing it for the Expos and Sox took the title in '79 but am neck and neck with the Yanks so far in '80. Making facegens in this era also makes me appreciate just how many men went all in on the Magnum P.I mustache. Didn't appreciate that as a lad, but it's everywhere in my facegens...

Gosh, the Orioles sure liked them big on the farm. Never mind the 6'5" Don Bowman, they also had 6'7" of Dan Logan standing by.

Logan struggled his first half season at AAA Rochester (1980) and earned a trip back to AA for a refresher course, but then registered three acceptable seasons as a Red Wing (53 HR) without getting a chance to earn his wings in Birdland. Indeed, at the end of '83, he got the same "Sorry, big guy…you're 27 and we've got Eddie Murray" pink slip Bowman had before him.

In the game, Logan's .861 in '81 is passable, but nothing new. It's just the AI are Birds of a different feather when it comes to September call-ups.

Here's Dan Logan. I used the small picture as it was a straight-on shot. Lost some definition in the pixels but I think it reps him well enough...

John Vallle, older brother of Bayside's Own Dave Valle, was the #2 draft pick of the Tigers in 1972. In 1976, he established himself at AAA Evansville, which earned him a spot on the Detroit spring roster the next year. But he didn't make it out of camp, was sent back to AAA, and despite seven more productive seasons at that level, never got to take that last step.

In the end, he spent so many years in Rochester that nowadays he runs a hitting academy and a travel team there. But, as noted, the AI O's are made of kinder stuff, so Valle already got 33 games for Baltimore last season, and at least is on the roster this September.

Here's John, hopefully-not-jealous-of-Dave, Valle. Shown as a Tiger but where he really went wrong was being traded to Baltimore, trying to play first and not being named Eddie Murray. Seems to be a Charm City problem for 1B AAAA-talent at the time...

Bill Haslerig was plodding around the Braves system when (in OTL) on July 1, 1980, he was traded to the Mets for Randy Johnson (the utility infielder, not the DH). Taking to Jackson MS like…okay, I don't have a good simile…he tore up the Texas League for the final two months and earned a ticket to Tidewater for 1981. But he found himself drowning in the Tides next year, and while he finished well enough back at Jackson (.823), Bill found himself on the receiving end of a "did you know you're 27 years old?" chat, and a pink slip.

In-game, the trade was never made, the Braves started him at Richmond for 1980, and after a hot month, he spent half the season as a defensive replacement/pinch-hitter (82 G, 118 PA) in Atlanta. This year, the Braves are improved and haven't needed him up top, but he still got called up, in time to watch Cox's Crew flop away the pennant (11-16 in September won't get it done, kids.)

Also, notably less "Caucasian" than advertised, but the New South has moved beyond those issues, we hope.

(Yes, angles and shadows, I know. But I have faith in you.)

I don't know if you want me to go full Dynasty Report here, but before we get crushed again by the Yankees (112-50), I should note that the Rangers did in fact win the West again. 93-69 won't turn heads, but not bad for being sub-.500 in July.

Pitching made the difference, with Matlack winning monthly honors for July, Medich for August, and Rick Rhoden going 4-0, 1.85 in September. IMO, Matlack (19-8, 2.10, leads league in ERA, WHIP and associated categories) should get the Cy Young, but the Yankees' winning so much will probably give it to Guidry (23-7, 2.74, 200 Ks [2nd in AL]). Sigh.

Likewise, Fred Lynn led the loop in WAR, but I'm thinking the writers will give the MVP to Yount. 112 wins are hard to ignore, I admit.

(Most impressive Sox for me was Cecil Cooper, going .328/30/126 and leading the AL in RBI, Hits, and TB. Better hope he doesn't exercise that opt-out after next year…)

Yikes! That one is a challenge! Here's the image I started with, what facegen turned it into and the result after multiple facial reconstruction surgeries using both pictures. Best I could do - those are indeed the only pics on the internet for him.

What year is your sim in? Just finished year 2 of mine so 1980 is done. My Sox lost to the Royals who lost to the Pirates in the WS. Got Cooper back in Fenway myself and he's a doubles machine right behind Boggs. Rhodan is 27 in my minors and wasn't developing. Didn't offer Arb to him this year and he's a FA. Rice and Lynn lost time to injuries so Brett took MVP and it was Dale Murphy in the NL. 1981 awaits me...

Thanks for Haslerig; I knew you could do it.

I've just finished the 1981 regular season. All four division winners repeated, so I'm expecting another Yankees v. Expos (103-59) WS. I do have to tip a hat to Tommy LaSorda, though. Not only did the Dodgers repeat, not only did he improve by 4 games on last season, and not only did he nurture Dave Winfield through a slow start, but he had to shuffle the lineup so much that only Winnie and SS Gary Weiss had enough PA to qualify for the batting race! (And Weiss hit .222…)

It helps when you've got Fernando dominating (23-3, 1.99), of course.

Jerry McDonald, the Pirates' #5 pick in 1975, had a nice 1979 (.912) at AA Buffalo, But he flopped at AAA Portland in 1980, somehow finishing up the year at Richmond, where he found it was the level, not the Beavers, that were the problem. And so Young McDonald was told to quit the farm.

In-game, he's benefitted from apparently being miscoded as Braves property at the start of 1980. Not that Richmond was any easier, but I guess the Braves are more forgiving, or something. So that's two years of Richmond mediocrity, but two sniffs of September Joe, even with Torre still in New York.

(Mets went 63-99. They had better fire Torre, already. Sheesh.)

Class of '03

OK, Class of '03 incoming and I thought this might be a better approach, if you're going to do something do it properly yada yada yada. There's a bunch in this batch not up to scratch (such poetry...) in my book, so I thought I'd do them on a team-by-team basis from this historical save and add a team pic so you can make the call as to whether or not I'm being too picky with some. Just say the word and they'll instantly become acceptable. On the other hand, there may be some I'm OK with that aren't to your liking, in which case by all means upgrade away. You're the one doing virtually all of the creative heavy-lifting here so you have final cut.

There's quite a few of questionable hue and constitution, and of course there was that dreadful plague of narrowus cranium that was in full flight around this time.

Shall do it in alpha order, one team per post with details of my exceptions. Let me know if this isn't working for you and we shall tinker (not you, Joe) some more.

Here, to kick us off, are the 1903 Boston Americans.

My suggestions as follows

Mike Smith (1896-1901)
John Skopec (1901-03)
Charlie Krause (1901)
