End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 Fans of the Orioles have had another good season to enjoy. This though is tempered by their desire to get back to winning pennants as they were a couple of seasons ago. Their feeling is that the team might be starting to show its age a little and needs to be freshened up with some new talent. This wasn't helped by the team getting off to another slow start. This slow start coupled with poor form from the batting early in the season saw them fail to put pressure on the champion Philadelphia Athletics even though they finished second in the AL. The final 3 games saw the team win 2 and lose 1 against the Philadelphia Athletics 6-0, 3-9 and 10-4 The stars for the Orioles this year were Starting Pitcher Cherokee Fisher and Second Baseman Lip Pike. Fisher continued to be the starter for the Orioles for a sixth season. He played in 54 games with 53 starts and pitched a total of 445.2 innings. This work saw him pick up an ERA of 2.22 for the year. These are his best figures for a season in the MLB. Lip Pike is a six year veteran of the Orioles and while he can play in many positions spent this season as a second baseman. He started all 60 games and had 240 at bats in those games. These at bats saw him claim 72 hits for an average of .300 for the season. This was not his best season and this average also shows how the Orioles as a whole struggled with the bat. Full pitching stats for the season Full batting stats for the season We will bring you a full report on the off season moves and draft once it has been completed. |

End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The Red Caps fans are extremely frustrated and annoyed by the teams performance this season. The team finished joint 3rd in the AL table and were never in touch with the leaders. The fans are hoping this is just a blip of a season and the team will be back to challenging for the pennant next season. The team started slowly and then never really got back into the season. The slow start was mainly down to the pitching as it had a dip in form this season. The batting was always solid during the season and produced some good numbers. The team finished the season with a 2-1 series win against the Brooklyn Atlantics 10-3, 10-7 and 8-13 The star of the show was First Baseman Levi Meyerle. Meyerle started all 60 games and had 280 at bats. These at bats saw him claim 100 hits and become the first player to hit this many hits in a season. These hits saw him claim an average of .342. This average saw him claim the batting crown in the NL for 1876. The pitching of starter Bobby Mathews was always a struggle during the season. He started 55 games and pitched 423.1 innings from the mound. These innings on the mound saw him pick up an ERA of 3.08 for the season. This ERA is just above his career total and showed that he did manage to have some good games during the year. Full pitching stats for the season Full batting stats for the season We will bring you a full off season report once the first year draft has been completed. |

End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 Th fans of the Atlantics had a more enjoyable season than the last few as the team saw some improvement to claim 2nd place in the NL table. This improvement managed to bring them up to playing average ball. The fans are hoping that this improvement will continue next season and bring them closer to the strong Chicago White Stockings. They finished the season with 2-4 loss against the Cincinnati Reds followed by 1 win and 2 losses against the Brooklyn Atlantics 3-10, 7-10 and 13-8 The star of the season was Centre Fielder Wes Fisler. Six season veteran Fisler started all 60 games and saw 267 at bats. These at bats saw him hit the ball 88 times to get an average of .330. He also saw 43 runs and 39 RBI's. The pitching was entrusted to the arm of Rookie Foghorn Bradley. Bradley started 58 games in his first season and pitched 443 innings. This work saw him tire a little as the season went on and he finished with an ERA of 3.51. Hopefully next season he will be better after an off season of conditioning. End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The fans of the White Stockings are all smiles again this year as their team picked up its 3rd consecutive NL pennant and 4th pennant in 5 years. This season was a tougher fight for the pennant than the last but they still managed to win the NL by 8 games as they finally broke away from the competition in the second half of the season. The team will face the Philadelphia Athletics in the MLB Championship Series again. Hopefully they will get the same result as last season. The team finished the regular season with 2 wins and 1 loss against the Cincinnati Reds. 9-8, 5-2 and 2-5 Pitcher Jim Britt and Short Stop Ross Barnes were the stars of the season. Jim Britt has been with the White Stockings for 5 seasons. This season was one of his worst in terms of ERA but better than anything else in the NL as he picked up the triple crown. He pitched 494 innings in 58 games and posted an ERA of 2.46 Short Stop Ross Barnes has been an ever present in the 6 seasons he has been with the White Stockings. This season he started 60 games and had 89 hits from 287 at bats. This gave him an average of .324. End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The fans of the Reds were expecting far more from their team than they saw. The team saw ups and downs all season with a final down putting them in joint 3rd place in the NL. The issues were the mid season dip in form that saw them have a couple of months where they lost far more than they won. The dip was down to a major loss of form on the batting side and the team never recovered from this. The team finished the season with a 4-2 win over the Brooklyn Atlantics and 1 win and 2 losses against the Chicago White Stockings 8-9, 2-5 and 5-2 After the batting had that loss of form during mid season it is difficult to find a star from the batting line up. The best was Rookie Ed Somerville. Somerville played and started 46 games during the season and produced an average of .344 from 54 hits in 157 at bats. There is every possibility that he may stand a chance of picking up the Rookie of the Year award but who knows what the voters think. The pitching was led by second year player Lon Knight. Knight started 59 games and pitched 468.2 innings and managed an ERA of 2.94 for his first full year as a starter. Hopefully this will stand him in good stead for the future seasons as he banks a full season of conditioning as a starter. Full pitching stats for the season Full batting stats for the season We will bring you a full round up of the off season changes once the first year draft completes. |

End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The fans of the Blues are again wondering when their team will show a season where they can at least not finish 3rd or 4th in the AL table. In their 6 seasons in existence they have never finished higher than 3rd and this season was no different as they finished last in the AL table. The issue this season was the batting again. The batting had some tough months in June and August which showed in the dips in wins at the same time. The team finshed the season by being swept 0-3 by the St Louis Brown Stockings. 1-16, 3-5 and 1-8 The star of the season was Cy Bentley who showed what a good pitcher he is. The only problem is the manager didn't always know how to use him. He started 51 games and pitched 416.2 innings. This work produced a solid ERA of 2.33 for the year. The batting for the Blues was all over the show during the season as they struggled to find a settled line up. The best batter during the season was Centre Fielder Jim Holdsworth. Holdsworth has been with the team for 4 seasons after being traded for and has been a full time starter in that time. This year he started all 60 games and had 83 hits from 268 at bats. This earned him an average of .310. Full pitching stats for the season Full batting stats for the season Their will be a full off season round up once the first year draft is complete. |

End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The Athletics fans are celebrating again this year as their team picked up their second straight AL pennant. They are now hoping they can go one better this year and get revenge on the Chicago White Stockings in the MLB Championship Series. The year was all down to the excellent numbers produced by both the pitching and batting as both were solid all year. The team finished the season with a 5-3 win against the St. Louis Brown Stockings and then a win and 2 losses against the Baltimore Orioles 0-6, 9-3 and 4-10 The batting produced some solid number all season and the star was Right Fielder John Cassidy. Cassidy has been with the club for 3 years and this was his first as a regular starter. He played in all 60 games and managed 86 hits from 253 hits. This gave him an average of .340. This average saw him crowned the batting champion for the AL. The pitching was led by the arm of starter George Bradley. Bradley is a second year player and this was his first as the starter. He started 57 games and pitched 462.2 innings. And saw an ERA of 2.30. This ERA gives him a very good chance of picking up the AL Pitcher of the year but who knows what the AL voters will think. Full pitching stats for the season Full batting stats for the season The full off season report will be bought to you once the first year draft is completed and a report from the MLB Championship Series once it is complete. |

End of Season 1876
7th October 1876 The fans of the Brown Stockings have seen an awful year as their team spent the whole season in the bottom half of the AL table. This has made the fans think that maybe the manager for this year hasn't known what to do with the stars on the team while also trying to get the youngsters to play. The youngsters tried their best and did well but not enough to bring the wins in. The team finished the season with a 3-5 loss to the Philadelphia Athletics followed by a 3-0 sweep of the Cleveland Blues. The batting was a struggle all season as the hits didn't always materialise. The best batter was Short Stop Tom Barlow. Barlow has been with the team for 5 years with this being his best. He started all 60 games and claimed 87 hits in 265 at bats. This gave him an average of .328 for the year. The pitching was again in the hand of 6 year veteran George Zettlein. Zettlein had his best season of his career with the ball. He started 57 games and pitched 459.2 innings. This work saw him claim an ERA of 2.37 for the year. Playoffs 1876
17th October 1876 The fans of the White Stockings are crying into their beers tonight as they saw their team suffer a tough 3-4 loss in the MLB Championship Series. The first game of the series saw the White Stockings lose a close game 10-12. The loss went to Al Spalding who had a poor game as he gave up 8 earned runs in 7.2 innings. The hitting solid if unspectacular as all they players each picked up a hit but were not strong enough to get the win. Game 2 saw the White Stockings bounce back as they won 13-8. Star of the show was Ross Barnes who picked up 3 hits and 3 runs along with 1 RBI in the game. Jim Devlin picked up the win with 7 earned runs given up in 8 innings pitched. Game 3 finally saw the White Stockings win 12-8 to go up 2-1 in games. The star of the show was Ross Barnes again as he picked up another 3 hits and 2 runs. Jim Britt was finally unleashed in the series but had a poor game with only 6 innings pitched for 5 earned runs against him. He did manageto get the win though. Game 4 was a complete blow out as the White Stockings won 10-0. Star of the show was pitcher Al Spalding who gave up 0 earned runs in 9 innings for the win. Star with the bat was Ezra Sutton with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. The fifth game saw a cocky White Stockings side suddenly get reminded the Athletics were still in this series. The team lost 0-5 and nothing can be said about either the batting or pitching as the team had an awful performance. The sixth game was another tough game for the White Stockings as they came unstuck 3-9. The batting still didn't fire at all. Pitcher Britt tried again in the series but again showed his tiredness from the season as he gave up 6 earned runs in 8 innings. The final game finally saw the White Stockings give up their MLB title in a 3-6 loss. The batting failed to turn up for the third game in a row. This didn't help the pitching that put up a good display behind the arm of Al Spalding who only gave up 3 earned runs in 9 innings pitched. 17th October 1876 The fans of the Philadelphia Athletics have been celebrating all night long after their team revenged themselves on the White Stockings in the MLB Championship Series this season 4-3. Game 1 saw the Athletics picked up a surprise 12-10 win against the White Stockings in Chicago. The pitching of Dick McBride had a tough game but picked up the win with 7 earned runs from 9 innings pitched. The batting was solid and this was all down to Jim O'Rourke. O'Rourke hit 2 balls and picked up 4 runs from 5 at bats. O'Rourke also picked up a playoff record of 4 runs in one game. The second game of the series saw the Athletics lose 8-13. The batting tried its best but couldn't get the runs needed towards the end of the game as the Chicago pitching tightened up. Dory Dean pitched solidly to give up 7 earned runs in 8 innings for the loss. Game 3 saw the Athletics lose 8-12 against the White Stockings. The team couldn't close the game out after getting the game back to 8 all after 6 innings. The pitching tired during the final innings and the White Stockings took the game away from them. Dory Dean picked up his second loss on the trot with only 5 earned runs in 9 innings pitched. Game 4 made the fans of the Athletics think it was all over as the team went down 0-10. There was no player giving a performance in the game. Game 5 saw the Athletics bounce back to shut the White Stockings out in a 5-0 win. Pitcher George Bradley picked up the win in his first outing in the Championship Series. He pitched 9 innings for 0 eraned runs. The batting did enough to pick up the win with Andy Leonard's 3 hits and 2 runs the back bone of the win. The Athletics bought the series level after a 9-3 win in Chicago. Dory Dean finally showed the talent he has as he picked up the win on 9 innings for only 2 earned runs. The batting was solid as Catcher Doug Allison put in a good display with 3 hits and 2 runs. The final game of the series saw the Athletics complete the comeback with a 6-3 win. Dick McBride picked up the win on an excellent display with the ball as he pitched the full game and gave up only 1 earned run. The batting was led by Phil Hines who picked up 3 hits and 2 runs. |

Off Season 1876
1st January 1877 The fans of the saw very little movement in the front office of their Orioles. GM Norberto Ortiz 2 was given a 2 year extension to his contract to reward him for the continued success of the team. Augusto Barron picked up the AL Manager of the Year award for their second place. We are not quite sure why as we thought it would go to the Philadelphia Athletics manager. The playing staff did not see such a quiet period over the off season. Three players decided that they had to hang up their cleats for good as they could not see a way back into the first team roster. First to announce his retirement was 35 year old Centre Fielder Sy Studley. Studley spent his whole 5 year career with the Baltimore Oriole organisation. He did not play a single game for the Orioles and spent most of his time in the minor leagues. (real life stats 5 games and 21 at bats for 2 hits). The next player to say he was retiring was 36 year old First Baseman Fred Crane. Crane has spent 4 years with the Orioles organisation but never played a MLB game. He spent most of his time in the minor leagues. (real life stats 22 games for 85 at bats and 18 hits) The final player to announce he was giving up the game was 36 year old Catcher Nealy Phelps. Phelps spent the whole of his 6 year career with the Orioles organisation but never played a MLB game. He spent most of his time in the Minor Leagues. (real life stats 12 games and 46 at bats for 5 hits) The award season was very quiet for the Orioles this year. The only player to be honoured was pitcher Cherokee Fisher who was voted onto the AL defensive team of the year, picking up a golden glove. The draft pool was limited this year with only 22 players available. With this in mind the Orioles only picked players in the first 2 rounds. The team opted for Catcher Dave Pierson in the first round. The full draft log is shown below. They managed to sign both players by the deadline day. |
