Ahhh Charlie Gilbert, one of my career year 1 and done players. He hit 40 Hrs for the Cubs one year and then fell off the cliff, becoming a league average player

But if anyone can beat a rotation of Barnhill,Newhouser,Noguchi and Harder I don;t know who it could be, maybe Boston now that they have Musial

Almost! The Cubs stuck their nose in the middle. They won the 40 series, beating the Browns and ending their 4 year streak. The Reds won the next 4, which ofcourse, is a streak that's still alive!

Really has become a pitcher's league. Both WS teams only have 1 player over 80RBI, but both had 4 pitchers make the AS Game.

PS Charlie Gilbert looks like he might have a part time gig as a serial killer
It seems that, all over the league, hitters ratings are going down, and pitching ratings going up! It's a pitching league now!

Nice eye. Mel Harder is 35 now, but he's still a very good pitcher. The Reds picked him up at last season's trade deadline, for 3 meh hitters.

He's been a reliever most of his career, and looks like he'll be given a chance to start, full time, for the first time in his career. He'll be the #5.

Amazingly, the Reds #4 is Milt Shoffner, who has won 190 games for the Reds over the last 14 years. How many world series games has he appeared in though. Just 1, which is amazing, considering he's probably good enough to be a #2 most other teams!

1944-45 Offseason News and Notes

Mexican born SS Claudio Solano is a little bit of a surprise #1 pick for the Braves. He’s a guy that never played in the majors in real life. Overall, it’s a fairly weak draft class. Some good players, but I don’t see any potential star here.

Lou Gehrig and Mule Suttles each were forcibly retired this year. Neither play at all anymore, they are on the wrong side of 40. Didn’t make sense to have them sit around, doing nothing. In a story that maybe would make sense, I’ve converted them both to coaches, as the only thing they really could have been doing these past few years is learning the trade. Here’s a look at both legendary careers.

Both these players flew a bit under the radar, considering they both played for the Phillies offensive juggernaut. Showboat Fisher was traded right before the real domination began. IF they kept him, they probably win atleast 1 more championship.

1945 Regular Season

4 time NL MVP award winner Hal Trosky has been traded.

The Cubs deal the star to the Yankees after 2 injury plagued seasons. Trosky, whose 32, isn’t done yet though. He’s healthy, he’s got good ratings, and he’s moving to the AL, where the pitching isn’t quite as strong as the NL. The Yankees have been missing Josh Gibson, who should be back after the all-star game, and expect those two to hit a lot of home runs.

"The 1945 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was to have been the 13th annual playing of the midseason exhibition baseball game between the all-stars of the American League and National League, the two leagues comprising Major League Baseball. The game was cancelled due to wartime travel restrictions due to United States involvement in World War II, thus marking the only time to date that an all-star game was cancelled. The game was scheduled to be held on July 10, 1945 at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox of the American League. As compensation for losing the game, the stadium was awarded the 1946 game."
From Wikipedia

The Reds suffer a serious blow to their hopes of winnig a 5th straight title. Hal Newhouser goes down early in August, with a ruptured tricep tendon, and his season is done. The Reds currently trail Pittsburgh by 4 games, and without ace 1A, it will be that much tougher to make up the ground.

Newhouser

As we hit September 1st, the Boston Red Sox lead the St. Louis Browns by 1 game for the AL pennant. The Boston Red Sox, as we know them, have never played in a World Series. The franchise did win the first 2 championship in my league as the Americans, but it’s been downhill from there.

After winning 10 of 12, and taking a 1 game lead, the Browns lose 6 straight, while the Sox win 5. That’s enough for the Red Sox to clinch their first AL pennant!

In the NL, the Reds have 3 games remaining, and trail the Pirates by just 1 game. Pittsburgh plays 1 more against the Cubs. The Pirates have been hurt by both Satchel Paige and Bob Feller missing most of September. Neither would be back for the world series.

Paige and Feller

The Reds beat St. Louis 6-0 and trail now by half a game on the final day of the season. If they can sweep the double header with the Cards, they will at worse force a 1 game playoff.

The Cards crush the Reds spirits with a 5-4 win in game 1. The Pirates shut out the Cubs 3-0, and the rest is elementary.

The 4 time defending World Champions have been eliminated.

Without Bob Feller and Satchel Paige, this is gonna be a near impossible series for Pittsburgh. They don’t seem to have enough pitching depth to stop a good all around Boston team.

1945 World Series

The Red Sox take game one, 7-6, in a game where every Sox starter got a hit.

Harry Danning, Boston backup catcher, wins game two for the Sox, with a 2 run double in the 12. Final score 11-9. I don’t think Feller or Paige would have lost either of these games.

Pittsburgh is able to overcome a first inning, 3 run, Stan Musial home run, and wins the third game 6-4. The Pirates Dom DiMaggio knocked in 4.

Boston jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and were able to hold on to take game four 7-5. With Paige and Feller, this series is over.

Boston SS Al Rosen homers twice, as the Sox route the Pirates 9-4, and win the World Series in 5 games.

This is one of the least exciting drafts I have seen. There really aren't any big names to get excited about seeing, nor is there much skill either. First pick Stan Lopata is a name foreign to me. He looks like he'll be a solid player, but he doesn't have the kind of talent you would hope your #1 overall pick has.

Al Simmons is another underrated player. I didn't give him to much attention during his career, but there's not doubt he belongs here. He was an easy yes, for induction into the Hall of Fame.

For the first time in about a million years, Satchel Paige isn't baseball's best pitcher. He has started to decline at the age of 39, but if history is any indicator, he's got another decade left!

Going to make a request...if doable.

When you include screen shots of players, like Williams and Barnhill above, anyway you can also include their career stats screen?

I'll meet you half way. Instead of career stats, which is a screen that can be pretty big, how about i just include the stats listed on the same page which i have been cutting off.

I added the adjusted player profiles to the previous post, and can start doing that from now on. Don't really know why i never did before though

1946 Regular Season

Another disaster for the Browns. Robert Griffith suffers a horrible injury that will sideline him for 14 months. Elbow ligament reconstruction is needed. He was 5-0, with a 1.24 era on the season. He’s irreplaceable.

In June, Satchel Paige recorded his 400th career win! He is the first modern era pitcher to do so, and trails the all-time wins leader, Kid Nichols by 20. Paige has just turned 40, and while his ratings are starting to erode, he’s still having a solid season. 8 wins, and a 2.71 ERA. His 400th win, was a 9 inning, 6 hit, 1-0 win over the Dodgers!

Paige

Washington’s Josh Billings is a guy who has gotten next no coverage at all in this dynasty. He’s a 38 year old pitcher, whose played 19 years with the Washington Senators. Just days after Paige was celebrated, Billings won his 350th game! He’s 2 years younger, so he’s not that far off the pace. Billings career looks close to HOF status. I’m sorry Josh, I should have paid closer attention to you.

Billings

The St. Louis Browns, who lead the AL until early August, lost Joe DiMaggio, Arky Vaughn, and Hank Greenberg to injury, and traded away Johnny Hopp. With the loss of Robert Griffith earlier, they had almost nothing left, and faded badly. The New York Yankees came on, led by former NL MVP Hal Trosky, and not so much Josh Gibson(who looks like he may be done within two years. Yankees blew away the AL the final two months and easily won the pennant.

Bob Feller, who held the old strikeouts in a season record(334 in 1944) broke his own mark, striking out 350 batters this season. Feller and teammate Satchel Paige hold the top 7 marks on the list

These two teams have won the most titles in league history. They have combined for 15 championships so far. After this year, it will be more then 1/3rd! The Yankees beat the Reds in the 1905 and 1907 World Series. As you can tell by the stats, it’s a pitchers world right now. I’m thinking Barnhill and Newhouser will be the difference. They have been unhittable this year.
