1956 Standings

The Sharks will begin another quest for that coveted Stanley Cup title. They will face the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, the team that they swept in the West Finals last year.

The Hartford Whalers will begin their defense of the championship versus the New York Islanders.

Conference Quarterfinal Results

Up next for the San Jose Sharks? The St. Louis Blues, whom the Sharks eliminated in the 2nd round last year. This year, the Sharks handled the Blues very well, winning the season series 9 games to 3.

There were two huge upsets in the East. The New York Islanders stunned the defending Stanley Cup champion Hartford Whalers, sweeping them 4 games to 0. And #7 seed Tampa Bay knocked out #2 Washington, 4 games to 2.
