The 10/5 rule would only kick in the last year of the four year extension, since Mark Buehrle debuted in July 2000.

Meh. Cintron's not that terrible - he had arm surgery in the off-season, and that's messed him up a bit. Don't forget that last year he hit .285 with 41 RBIs while playing a pretty darn good middle infield. He's a butcher at third base, but that's not a secret. Cintron has been an everyday player (granted, it was with Arizona) in recent years. As a backup, he's not awful - he made a nice bare-handed grab & throw to get Garland out of a bases-loaded jam in the 7th today - but he certainly shouldn't be starting.

Then again, neither should Mackowiak, Terrero, Fields or Andy Gonzalez. This team is so beat up it's not even funny.

Still, they've won 6 of their last 7!

Oh, and congratulations to Bobby Jenks, the lone Sox All-Star!

In other opinionated news...

This is really going to sound dumb and I know it is mostly a waste of Kenny's time but what are the chances that Kenny could be trying to set it up for a sign and trade since he would probably be able to get more for someone who is signed for four years as opposed to someone who is signed just until the end of the season.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable.

Apparently, Kenny is willing to proivde a limited no-trade clause, similar to what Konerko and Garland have (although I'm not sure of the specifics of their clauses), but Buehrle wants a complete no-trade clause.

In related news, Buehrle may be making his last home start for the White Sox tonight!

Oh, and Boone Logan sure sounds like an intellectual!

Heh. "I don't read any books." Shouldn't somebody who says that be immediately arrested and slapped in the face with a wet fish?

Personally, I like his comment about how the fans are "just a bunch of idiots." The Sox PR department must be loving that.

I forgot to mention that I liked what I saw from Josh Fields yesterday - he made a couple of nifty diving stops at third - both of them wound up going for infield hits, but one of them would've been a double down the line, and one of them was a play that only Joe Crede could've made. He also had some heads-up baserunning when he gorked a base hit into right and managed to advance to second when Tony Peña muffed the throw from Mark Teahen.

Wow, that was fugly.

Blowing a 4-run lead against the O's. Fugly, I tells ya.

FWIW, Kenny's still optimistic that Buehrle will re-sign:

According to Williams, the White Sox's latest offer to Buehrle includes about 18 months of exposure in the middle of the deal where he would not be protected by a full no-trade provision.

"If that's the only thing that's the roadblock at this point, then I have to be optimistic that something can get done," Williams said.

That should be the new ad campaign. They can show all of the horrible at-bats, hits given up, etc. It would fit really well.

As for Buehrle, I'm still hoping. That article from Kenny sounds a lot better than the way things seemed a few days ago.

Actually, it still fits in quite well with this year's "We Are Chicago Baseball" campaign, because if anything exemplifies Chicago baseball over most of the past hundred years, it's lousy play like we've seen this year.

Yeah, usually Kenny is more likely to put his foot in his mouth and admit things are going poorly when he should just keep his yap shut, so maybe things will work out.

At this point, I'm not very hopeful, though.

So, after a typically shaky Contreras loss, the Sox offense came to life against the O's.

Also, David Aardsma got sent back down to Charlotte, and Gavin Floyd got the call the the big club. Floyd had been pretty much lights-out in Charlotte lately, posting a 3.10 ERA. He's expected to get the start Friday against the Twins, and I guess he's going to be in the 'pen the rest of the time.

That may have been the worst starting perfomance of Garland's career.

3 1/3 innings, 11 hits, 3 walks, 0 K's, 12 runs (11 earned).

Mick Masset, as one would expect from Nick Masset, just poured gas on the fire:

3 1/3 innings, 8 hits, 1 walk, 0 K's, 6 runs (5 earned).

Dewon Day finally managed to come in and strike somebody out, but not before allowing a single and an inherited runner to score.

guh.

Wow, I was right about that, and then some.

Garland's start got the lowest Game Score of any effort by a Sox starter in THE PAST FIFTY YEARS.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/PhmR

And Gavin Floyd isn't doing much better in his Sox debut - well, actually, he's probably doing a lot better, but still pretty awful:

So far 5 2/3 innings, 8 hits, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts, 6 runs, FOUR HOME RUNS.

32 runs given up in one day. Ouch.

dola,

So how long do you Sox fans think it will be until Ozzie is shown the door? After today, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back after the All-Star break.

Ozzie (and Kenny Williams) bought himself a very long leash by winning the Sox' first World Series in 87 years.

It's not Ozzie's fault that every single player on the team is playing like absolute **** right now.

When? I don't remember a time in my life when I've seen any baseball team this lifeless - especially the Twins.

For ****'s sake, Matt Garza can get a bunt down, but nobody on the Sox can.

You know how the only thing keeping this team even remotely alive was the starting pitching? This is why I'm pegging the Sox for a 105 loss team. 'Cause when Buehrle's gone (and hopefully Contreras, too), and the Sox have a rotation where Floyd or Masset is the #4 guy...

Is it ever really the managers fault when a team is playing like crap? Given Ozzie's inability to keep his trap shut, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the opportunity the Sox are looking for to justify cutting him loose.
