Thanks. Hopefully she will be released tomorrow.

I still probably won't update anything for a couple of days or so... On my way home from a late dinner, my car smashed into some debris on the highway (turns out it was a huge wooden crate) and my car is pretty beat up. Then I realize that I got rid of everything on my car insurance except Liability and No Fault, so I'm going to eat the repair bill.

Not really in the mood for UTBA right now...

----

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas this year

I hope for both a speedy recovery for your Mom and a reasonable car repair bill. Neither is good at this time of year, or any other, frankly. We do our best in Medicare to seek out milking and padding. The money they give us for auditing and trending isn't a lot, but we are getting better at compairing patterns of care. We do have a few pit bulls.

Best of luck, Dave!

Thanks guys. Mom is ok and back home. Second-hand smoke from living w/ a smoker for 25+ years has taken a toll on her lungs.

As for my poor car --- looks like $4500.00 in damage. So much for any money saved this year. Will have no car for about 2 weeks.

Good to hear that your mom is home and doing OK. That really sucks about the car.

Glad your mom is OK. That's real good news for the holiday. The car bill on the other hand really sucks.

HW EOY - #1 CH-Ken Norton vs. #8 Earnie Shavers

Heavyweight EOY Tournament - Quarterfinals Match
MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas NV (USA)
23 December 2010

#1 CH-Ken Norton 67-24-0 (46) vs. #8 Earnie Shavers 58-26-3 (51)

2nd Meeting (Shavers leads series 1-0)

---

Round 1: Shavers starts off in defensive-mode with a high guard and stays on the ropes. Seconds before the bell, Shavers lands a short uppercut and Norton drops like he was shot. Norton quickly bounces back to his feet after a brief 1-count

Round 2: Lots of circling. Lots of clinching. Both fighters miss wildly. Shavers manages to score with some good body work

Round 3: Close round. Both Norton and Shavers get shaken up a bit by each other's power shots

Round 4: Both fighters concentrate on body work this round. Shavers is busier but at one point absorbs a big hook to the body and clutches at his side

Round 5: The Champ taunts Shavers to "bring it on!" Shavers responds with a barrage of punches, dropping Norton for the 2nd time in the fight. Norton gets up at 5 but his eyes have a vacant stare. Shavers becomes a human windmill as he tries to end it. Norton survives the round but his legs appear to be Jell-O

Round 6: Norton may have been playing possum last round. Norton shows no ill effects from the knockdown. Norton and Shavers stand toe-to-toe exchanging punches with Norton seemingly getting the upper hand. Shavers traps Norton in a corner and fires a combination resulting in major swelling underneath Norton's right eye. Norton responds with a pair of uppercuts that hurt Shavers as the round ends

Round 7: Shavers returns to the body attack. Norton starts favoring his side and keeps his guard low to protect his body. Shavers completely dominates round. At the bell, Norton is barely hanging on trapped in a corner

Round 8: Swelling under Norton's right eye is getting worse. Shavers continues body work. Norton lands a short uppercut that buckles Shavers and his knee almost touches the canvas. Shavers quickly recovers and reels off multiple combinations to pile up points. Norton's punches may be losing some steam

Round 9: Shavers stays with the body attack in between clinches. A nice shot to the ribs has Norton gasping for air. Norton lands a big hook flush that stuns Shavers. Shavers starts to look fatigued. Swelling under Norton's right eye is starting to be a hinderance. Round is too close to call

Round 10: Both fighters come out for the 10th looking fatigued. A left hand staggers Norton into the ropes. Shavers drops Norton again with a thunderous cross. Norton regains his feet at 2 but is clearly in bad shape. Norton stumbles around the ring. Norton's right eye is almost swollen shut

Round 11: Norton's corner did a good job to reduce the swelling between rounds. Referee warns Shavers for hitting on the break. A few well-placed punches by Shavers turn Norton's right eye into an ugly swollen mess. Some pushing and shoving ends with Norton on the canvass. Referee rules "no knockdown." Shavers outlands Norton 24-5

Round 12: Norton walks into a Shavers' cross and goes down. Norton gets up at 6. Referee gives Norton a good look before letting him continue. Shavers lands flush and Norton hits the canvas for a 2nd time this round. Norton back up after 2 and wants to continue with shakey legs. Norton's defense causes multiple wild misses by Shavers. Norton comes in low and Shavers puts a headlock on him. Referee breaks them up. Norton survives the round

Round 13: Norton starts clinching. Swelling around Norton's right eye can't possibly get any worse. Norton stumbles forward after eating a Shavers combination square on the jaw and then goes down. Norton tries to clear his head and struggle to his feet, but collapses back to the canvas as the Referee reaches the 10-count @ 2:56 mark

Earnie Shavers W-KO13 CH-Ken Norton

3rd Meeting (Chagaev leads series 2-0)

---

Round 1: Chagaev starts off bouncing on his toes. Sharkey lands a couple of hard shots. Chagaev dances around and jabs. A lead cross by Chagaev opens a hairline cut on Sharkey's forehead. Sharkey holds and Chagaev raises his arms up in disgust. Good round for Chagaev

Referee stops action and leads Sharkey over to the ringside doctor who clears away the blood to examine the cut, then lets the fight continue. Chagaev switches to a body attack

Round 4: Cut is reopened again. Action halted for another visit to the ringside doctor. Doctor allows fight to continue. Sharkey lands a big uppercut. Out of nowhere, Sharkey has developed swelling around his left eye. Chagaev lets his hands go. Sharkey's forehead cut deepens and is bleeding more than before. 2nd Meeting (Langford leads series 1-0)

---

Round 1: Langford comes out aggressively, landing easily despite Byrd's good defense. Byrd can't seem to find any openings

Round 2: Byrd is using his legs. Byrd effectively blocks most of Langford's punches with his gloves. Byrd does very little offensively

Round 6: Slow round. Langford bobs and weaves, but remains flat-footed. Fighters circle the center of the ring and clinch. Nice flurry at the end of the round for Langford. The swelling around Byrd's left eye has ballooned substantially

Round 7: Langford tries to find range for his punches. Referee hollers at both fighters for clinching. Byrd lands a straight right that hurts Langford in an otherwise dull round

Round 8: Byrd is doing a good job bouncing off the ropes as soon as his back touches one. Close round but Byrd may be running out of gas

Round 9: Good round for Langford. Swelling around Byrd's left eye is getting ugly

Round 10: Langford is telegraphing his punches. Byrd lands an uppercut that sends Langford reeling into the ropes. Byrd lands a hard combination to the head and Langford goes down. Langford gets up at 8 but looks dazed. Langford survives the round

Round 11: Fighters exchange punches. Langford seems to have shaken off the effects of the knockdown last round. Langford staggers backwards after a clash of heads on the inside. Byrd is hurt by an uppercut and is favoring his ribs. Every landed punch makes the swelling worse. Langford lands a combination to Byrd's temple knocking him off balance. Byrd goes down. Byrd can't beat the count. Referee reaches 10 at 2:49 of round 11

Wow,my man Earnie finally earns his long sought after title! One of my all-time fave fighters, its good to see the old acorn get some props. If I am not mistaken this is the first time he has grabbed the title. Beating Norton is no easy task and to think of these guys trading blows for 13 rounds..whew,you know ole Earnie was gasping for air as he never was known for great endurance lol. I know his reign will probably be a short one but with his power ya never know. Finally a bright spot for Left Jab Inc.
