Round 1 Commentary
That's the bell, summoning the two fighters to begin trading punches here in the first. Frazier scores with a winging right! Tucker's head snapped back violently with that punch! Frazier lands a solid follow-up uppercut! Tucker is trying to regain his senses after those punches to begin this fight by Frazier ... Tucker is blocked in his own corner... Frazier lands a wicked uppercut! Mercy! That was a crushing blow! Tucker is trying to hang on ... That hook by Frazier jarred Tucker! Bout 428 - Larry Holmes versus Pinklon Thomas
Round 6 Commentary
The bell starts the action as Holmes and Thomas leave their corners. corner has done a great job on the cut on the right eyelid. They've got the bleeding stopped, at least for now. Holmes connects square to Thomas's jaw, talk about sweet chin music!! You could feel the breeze after that miss by Thomas! Holmes connects with a solid combination! It looks like Holmes has reopened Thomas's previous wound because Thomas is now bleeding once again. Thomas is bleeding again from the cut on his right eyelid. The blood is trickling down his face once again. It's not that he's bleeding all that badly but the location of the cut - over the eye - makes it a bit more serious. And talk about timing, the referee has stepped in and momentarily stopped the fight. He's looking at the cut above Thomas's eye and is now leading him toward the ringside physician. And it looks like we're going to see some more boxing because the physician has given his okay to let the fight continue. Both fighters are assuming their positions and the timer has restarted here in Round 6 as the fighters approach one another. Holmes connects with an uppercut to the head of Thomas. The cut on the eyelid of Thomas is starting to bleed more heavily now as additional damage has caused it to widen. Now the referee has called timeout, halting the action. He's leading Thomas to the ringside physician. Referee Podgorski steps in and stops the fight! Thomas is bloody mess, the cut over his eye has gotten too bad to allow this fight to continue. Round 12 Commentary
As the bell sounds for the final round, it looks as if the scorecards will determine the outcome of this fight. Don Turner knows Holyfield lost that last round, but he took the positive approach between rounds. Holyfield catches Terrell with a short, powerful hook to the head as Terrell tried to move inside. That punch stopped Terrell in his tracks! Holyfield flicks a jab to Terrell's stomach. Holyfield lands a paralyzing cross! Holyfield whiffs with the cross. Holyfield leans in and takes an uppercut to the chin from Terrell. Holyfield pummels Terrell, capping off his assault with a stiff cross! Terrell appears to have this fight under control even though Holyfield won this Round. This fight is history! The last round is over, and we await the decision of the judges. Bout 430 - Ingemar Johansson versus John Tate
Round 4 Commentary
Here come the fighters to ring center for Round 4 ... Tate's corner men worked their magic on his's cut on the bridge of nose. There's no bleeding at all under the Vaseline smear. Johansson approaches flat-footed, but continues to move forward, not giving Tate any room to breathe. Both fighters are probing, looking for an opening. Johansson flicks a lead right to the head of Tate. And now it appears as if Tate's cut has been reopened by one of those punches that landed. More bad news for Tate as the gaping wound on the bridge of his nose is once again bleeding profusely. Now we get a stoppage in the action while the referee leads Tate toward the ringside doctor for a quick consultation. In Tate's favor, the bleeding isn't flowing into either of his eyes. The doctor is really taking a close look at it and Tate cannot like the expression on his face. And on the advice of the doctor Ref Coyle is stopping the fight! Tate's cuts are just too severe! Klitschko and Spinks square off as the bell sounds to start the action for Round 11. Spinks caught Klitschko square with that uppercut. Spinks last connect snapped back the head of Wladimir Klitschko. And it looks like it has reopened Klitschko's cut. Now the bleeding from the gash above Klitschko's right eye has begun to flow again. The fighters jockey back and forth and now the referee is going to use this opportunity to step in and call timeout. He's taking Klitschko by the arm and leading him to the far ropes where the ringside physician can take a look at the cut. The doctor is really taking a close look at it. No! Lewis is getting his full rest as he remains on his stool as the Round 6 bell sounds. Snipes can't score with short uppercut inside. Lewis got his gloves in front of the punch. Hector Roca knows Snipes lost that last round, but he took the positive approach between rounds. Lewis lands a nice jab. He tries to follow it up with a cross, but it misses. An uppercut to the jaw has Snipes hurt he stumbles forward and he's down!! Referee Salzgeber brings his arm down over Snipes as he begins the coun t... Snipes lurches to his feet at the count of 2 but he stumbles and is down on his knees again. He's making another effort! At 5, Snipes lurches to his feet and awaits the completion of the mandatory 8 count. This bout will continue as Salzgeber signals to both men to fight. A small cut has appeared on the forehead of Snipes. Lewis lands a hard cross! Snipes was shaken by that blow! Snipes takes a hard combination from Lewis. Lewis is literally dancing circles around Renaldo Snipes this round. Snipes just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body. Snipes is favoring his ribs, he's hurt!! It's Round 5 of this scheduled 12 rounder. Liston has Smith trapped! A combination to the jaw has Smith hurt as he stumbles forward and now he's down!! Referee Podgorski picks up the count from the timekeeper ... At 8, Smith is up and leaning on the ropes. Now he comes off them and looks toward Liston. Podgorski is looking at James Smith closely, and he will allow the fight to continue. Both fighters show virtually nothing in the way of damage. Liston's jab rips into Smith. Liston is raining blows down on Smith, who is obviously hurt. Liston throws a wild overhand right that lands flush! Smith drops to one knee and will take the count! Podgorski positions himself over Smith and starts the count ... At 4, Smith is back on his feet! He now has to take the mandatory 8. Podgorski waves the two fighters together. Liston gets off a jab to the solar plexus. Smith tastes Liston's jab again. Smith ducks into an uppercut from Liston as he looks to work inside. And now Smith absorbs a wicked uppercut to the head. He's staggering backwards and now he goes down in a heap. It's over!!! That's Smith's third trip to the deck this round and Liston is the winner by TKO!! And here with the call is J.D. Shavers is getting his full rest as he remains on his stool as the Round 11 bell sounds. Shavers's corner didn't ignore the swelling he's suffered so far in this bout. Louis lands a glancing, overhand right. He just missed landing that one square. Louis ducks under a jab and brings an uppercut right down main street. Louis moves in and connects with another compact uppercut to the head. A solid cross drops Shavers on his back! Ref Nady stands over Shavers and begins the count ... Shavers makes it to a knee at the count of 3 but he's still struggling to get his legs under him! At 7, Shavers is stunned, but he makes it to his feet where he takes the mandatory 8 count. Shavers raises his guard as Nady asks him if he wants to continue. Shavers wants to keep on fighting, but he still looks hurt. Louis connects with a vicious cross! Louis moves Shavers back and scores with a hook. Louis works downstairs, scoring with series of hooks. Louis has Shavers in a world of trouble. Let's see if he can finish him here in the 11th. Bout 441 - Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Round 5 Commentary
Round 5 begins as the bell sounds. Norton is off target with that cross. Norton does a great job of moving as Moore tries to work inside. Norton throws the hook and connects. Moore lands the right hand. He's pretty effective with that punch when he sets it up right. Norton slips inside and buries a hook to the body of Moore. Moore dips as if to launch a body shot, then goes upstairs with a quick hook to the head that puts Norton back on his heels! Norton scores from the outside with a nice cross to the body. The knockdown suffered by Moore should have made that last round Norton's by a wide margin. Moore doubles up with the hook to the body, but Norton is unfazed. Ken Norton throws a hard cross and scores to the head of Moore. Moore takes a hard cross right on the button and he’s down! The count begins ... Moore tries to clear his head as Burke reaches the count of 3. 10! Thats it, the referee counts out Moore here in the 5th. The crowd is going wild after Norton's spectacular knockout!
