Alright boys, let's get it together. Ugh! I sure hope this isn't another bad stretch kicked off by the Indians.

Listening to the radio today, and they were talking about which arms need to go, what the Tigers need to get before the deadline. Truth is, there is nobody out there to be gotten. The Benoit rumor has been tossed around, but $15.5 million is a bit much to take on; especially if we plan to re-sign/replace Max Scherzer. Personally, I thought since Boston is out of it, we could rent Koji Uehara for the rest of the year.
I'm just going to make my sale (knowing it is somewhat unrealistic). Acquiring David Price makes sense: 1) Keep him away from the Yankees, or any other team the Tigers may face in the playoffs 2) Five Aces beats 4 of a kind 3) Leverage in Scherzer negotiations; we can sign Price, or Max doesn't matter to me. 4) Move Smyly to the bullpen where he shone last season 5) Friedman and Maddon are self-described idiot savants, can spot talent in our organization that other teams (or the Tigers) overlook

For the love of things holy, never sign a 38 year old closer.

In fact, maybe the Tigers are going about this all wrong. Forget relief pitchers. It's not like we can find any good ones.
We should have nothing but starters. As it stands the starter of today only pitches six innings, if that. Have one starter pitch five innings, pull them and put in the next starter to pitch the final four. |

If I am looking at the injury list correctly, Hanrahan was re-upped on the 60 day list three days ago - season is gonzo for him.

I like the idea of Price as well. Just not so sure I love the idea of Don Kelly playing 3B everyday.

I don't disagree with the bold at all. But I think he is because he fell into it rather than earning it. Verlander earned the title Ace. Max is there because Verlander is not. I think that's part of the reason Detroit didn't offer him the money he was hoping for. I also think that what's going on with Verlander backs up Detroit's cautiousness towards signing Max to a record deal: even the best go down hill. Verlander at least proved himself over years of greatness. Max has had a year of greatness with one and a half good years. In my mind that doesn't warrant the record setting contract Boras and Max are presumably looking for.

Detroit Tigers get reliever Joakim Soria from Texas for prospects | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
Bullpen looks to be much better now. I don't think that DD should stop there though.

The last time the Tigers traded a pitcher named Thompson to the Rangers it was part of that monster deal bringing Juan Gonzalez to town so he could cry about it being too hard to hit home runs. Still hate that deal because they got rid of Frank Catalonotto. I always liked him.

Well, at least Soria has given me reason to be kinder in thought toward Mr Coke.

Anyone else starting to think it's a Detroit jinx, something in the water etc going on. Soria has been lights out for the Rangers. He dons a Tiger uniform and turns into Richie Lewis???? Nathan instantly stinks as a Tiger. UGH!

Dombrowski must hate Billy Beane. The dude just keeps making that Fister trade look dumber and dumber. The A's look pretty damn invincible.

The A's pitching staff is fantastic now. I'm a bit leery about their offense now though. Cespedes was a pretty big bat for them. Gomes will not be anywhere close to as good a bat.

Vogt/Gomes platoon can come close to Cespedes' production at the plate. His defense in LF*? Not so much.
*Even though he takes horrible routes. He makes up for that with his cannon. |
