![]() Saturday June 18th, 1949 Braves Pound Reds 9-1 For 21st Straight Win! Cincinnati- Sparked by Jeff Heath's 2 run homer in the top of the first, the Boston Braves bashed their way to a 9-1 victory over the last place Reds, extending their winning streak to an amazing 21 straight games. The streak, is now tied for the 2nd longest in baseball history, just 5 shy of the all-time record of 26 set by the 1916 New York Giants. Masterson Impressive In First Boston Start 28 year old hurler Walt Masterson was spectacular in his first start with the Red Sox today, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits, while walking and striking out 5 in a complete game 2-1 victory over the White Sox here at Fenway Park. Boudreau Injured In Tribe's Win Led by RF Bob Kennedy, who was 5 for 5 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, the Cleveland Indians throttled Yankee pitching today, pounding out 19 hits in a 13-4 victory here at Yankee Stadium. Lost for up to a month however was player-manager Lou Boudreau, who injured his thumb in a collision at second base. Baseball's Big Six 1. Stan Musial(SLC) .372 2. Bobby Doerr(Bos) .359 3. Ted Williams(Bos) .357 4. Dom DiMaggio(Bos) .337 5. Danny Murtaugh(Pit) .325 6. Eddie Waitkus(Phi) .322 MLB Standings Last edited by PhillieFever; 09-06-2011 at 11:48 AM. |

Thinking back, the longest streak I ever remember seeing is like 12 games. More amazingly, the Braves have a record of 31-2 in their last 33 games. As for the rest of the league, I can't see anyone even coming close, if Boston goes 47-48 the rest of the way, they still end up 93-61, a good enough record to have won the pennant in 47 and 48. As for the finest record of all time, the 1906 Cubs were an unreal 116-37, in order for the Braves to top that, they'd have to go 71-24. That's a tall order.

![]() Sunday June 19th, 1949 Wehmeier and Litwhiler combine To End Braves Streak At 22 Cincinnati- In a season that has been full of nothing but bad news, Cincinnati Reds fans finally got something to cheer about today, when their club did what no other team has been able to do since May 28th, beat the Boston Braves. Facing the first place Braves in an afternoon doubleheader, the Reds were pounded in the opener 10-4, thanks to a 7 run Braves 6th inning that was capped off by an Earl Torgeson grand slam off of struggling Reds hurler Ewell Blackwell. In game two however, a Danny Litwhiler two run homer in the third off of Braves ace Warren Spahn gave the Reds a 2-0 lead that starting pitcher Herm Wehmeier refused to relinquish, battling his way through 8 and a third innings, allowing just one run despite 13 hits and 2 walks, he also fanned 6 batters. Totally gassed, Wehmeier was replaced by relief ace Harry Gumpert, who needed just 12 pitches to get the final two outs and lock down the Reds stunning 2-1 win. |

Dang! I was hoping they get the record.
![]() Still...it ranks up there as being won of the most impressive things I've seen in OOTP. It's more impressive considering that you use RL transactions and that its an AI run team. Pretty ironic that the streak was broken when they had their best pitcher on the hill. It will be interesting to see if they continue to play well the rest of the season, or if this was just a fluke. |

![]() Wednesday June 22nd, 1949 Wright's 7 RBI Pace A's Win Philadelphia- The Philadelphia Athletics won for the 8th time in their last 10 games this afternoon, hammering four Indians pitchers for 18 hits and a 16-9 victory. LF Taffy Wright led the A's attack, going 4 for 5 with a walk, a triple, 7 RBI and 2 runs scored. Ken Keltner, Larry Doby, and Ray Boone each had homers in the losing effort for Cleveland. Heintzelman Shines For Phils With 4 losses in their last 5 games, the Phillies needed a good effort from starting pitcher Kenny Heintzelman, and that's exactly what they got, Heintzelman held the Pirates to 1 run on 3 hits, while leading the Fightins' to a hard nosed 2-1 victory. Third sacker Willie "Puddin Head" Jones took care of the offense, connecting on a two run second inning homer that wound up the game winner. Cards Lose Lanier Cardinals hurler Max Lanier will be out of action for about a month with strained stomach muscles. Lanier injured himself in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Giants. Mize To Miss A Month In a recent game against the Pirates, Giants slugger Johnny Mize fouled a ball off of his foot, and had to leave the game, X-Rays later confirmed that Mize had broken his foot and will be out for a month. Hit & Hill Leaders Taking the place of the Big Six, Hit and Hill leaders in the same exact thing(top 3 NL and AL combined) except now we're tracking batting average and pitcher's ERA 1. Stan Musial(SLC) .370 2. Ted Williams(Bos) .367 3. Bobby Doerr(Bos) .348 4. Dale Mitchell(Cle) .331 5. Eddie Waitkus(Phi) .322 6. Danny Murtaugh(Pit) .317 1. Harry Brecheen(SLC) 1.60 2. Johnny Sain(BSB) 1.88 3. Eddie Lopat(NYY) 2.08 4. Ray Scarborough(WSH) 2.08 5. Robin Roberts(Phi) 2.24 6. I have a couple od ideas that I would like to run by you guys, tell me if you'd like me to implement any.
First I can keep it as is, except that I'd be more selective with the news stories in order move at a quicker pace. Or, I can do a Sporting News type weekly update with scores from each game of the past week, Standings, upcoming games, some stats, news, and top performances. Or finally, I can focus on one team, doing daily updates. |

I've decided to pretty much keep it the way it is except for two minor changes. The newspaper articles are going to be more selective, and the monthly wrap-up's are going to get a facelift which I hope makes it a bit better.
