In the American League, the Detroit Tigers upset the powerful Jacksonville Suns in the opening round (including a combined no-hitter in the clinching game), and were only two outs away from clinching the AL Pennant in Game 6. But the Baltimore Orioles scored three in the ninth to survive, and then won Game 7 on a bases-loaded balk. The Orioles are going to the World Series for the first time in the 43-year history of this league.

In the National League, the defending champion Cincinnati Reds are cruising. They beat both the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates in five games. They are back in the World Series for the second year in a row and the second time in their history, and are looking for their second World Championship.

2143 World Series Champions: Cincinnati Reds

This one will sting Baltimore Orioles fans for a long time. In the bottom of the ninth, the Orioles were one out away from winning their first World Series, but the Cincinnati Reds tied it with a single. The game stayed tied until the top of the 14th, when the Orioles hit two two-out back-to-back home runs. With a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the 14th, they coughed up a one-out two-run homer as the Reds tied it at 5-5. After a fly out, Sam Johnston from New York City crushed a 441-foot shot to win the Cincinnati Reds' second consecutive World Championship.

I stopped keeping track of the points a long time ago. I figured that I can just check the team histories and determine who the best team is by overall record, playoff appearances, and World Series Championships.

I'll post some of the results through the first 44 seasons soon.

2146 Final Standings

I'm very interested to see what the Texas Rangers will do in this year's playoffs. It's only their 5th postseason appearance in their 46-year history, and their first in 20 years. They have home field advantage against the Jacksonville Suns.
