Claxton is showing that you don't have to hit home runs to win a championship. Despite having hit just three long balls in the entire playoffs, Claxton stands just one victory away from a Pro Cup title. They'll have two chances to clinch on their home turf at their beautiful Avalon Stadium. The Diamonds are doing it with timely hitting, patience at the plate, stealing bases, strong defense and solid pitching.
The MLB World Series will be completed first. The Yankees looked like they would clinch their 3rd straight title against the Mets at Shea Stadium in Game 5, going up 4-1 after three innings, but their offense dried up after that and the Mets were able to rally for a 6-4 victory to stave off elimination. Still the Yankees lead 3 games to 2 as the series heads back to the big ballpark in the Bronx, and the Yankees look like they are still in a favorable position. With the big bats of Kid Elberfeld, Champ Osteen, and Jordan Trejo, and Armando Queure having an exceptional postseason, it's hard to keep the Yankees' bats quiet for long. After the World Series ends, we'll see if the Diamonds can surprise the baseball world and bring their first championship to the city of Claxton. |

Pro Cup XLII Champions: Claxton Diamonds (1st title)
1912 Midway was unable to make up for blowing a 3-0 Pro Cup lead three years ago. They fell short for the second time in their history, and are still without a Pro Cup. On the other hand, Claxton avenged their loss two years ago to South Fork and finally won their 1st championship. The Diamonds didn't hit many home runs during the postseason, but they got one when it was needed the most. Bench player Danny Rodriguez, on the tail end of his career, belted a pinch-hit two-run blast to give Claxton an 8-6 lead in the 8th inning. The Diamonds added one more for a 9-6 title-clinching victory. It didn't look promising early in the game, as Midway raced out to a 4-0 lead, but Claxton didn't give up, and it paid off. |
