Why I said they should root for Ghana, is that if they win, whatever happens against Italy, the final game will be a live rubber.

If Czech Republic and USA win out then USA finish second. And they won't have to rely on Goals scored.

if the Czechs lose here and against Italy, and we get a point vs Italy and beat the Ghanans...

USA 4
Czech Rep 3
Ghana 3

Thanks, that's what I meant. It would mean that with a draw and a Ghana win, Italy also wouldn't be able to just play for a draw against the Czechs to finish first.

If Ghana wins and the Us wins it will be a 4-way tie at 3 points. That would put the US future in their own hands. In that scenario if they then go on to beat Ghana then they are automatically in to the next round regardless of what happens in the Czech/Italy game.

if I had any confidence in saying the US could beat the Italians I would have brought that up...but hopefully they do and it happens.

I hope the USA go through if not for the guys who have posted on here but to be honest I can't see them getting a point, Italy will go out to win knowing that they will face the Czechs with the Czechs needing a point or points to go through. And have to say Ghana are well capable of beating the US knowing a win will send them through if they beat the Czechs tonight.

You guys are all such pessimists. Ive been playing a lot of winning eleven 8 lately and let me tell you the US has some playmakers. Beasley and Donovan are money.

I'm getting confused ... what would the US want MOST?

Obviously we want to beat Italy. However, if we pull a draw with the Italians and beat Ghana, we'll have 4 points.

Italy will have 4 going into the Czech game, who will have 3 if they lose to Ghana. Then we'd need Italy to the beat the Czechs. That scenario sounds okay.

If the Czechs beat Ghana, they'll have 6, and we HAVE to beat Italy then, right?

the Czechs can win by enough of a margin to give us the goal differential advantage and we'd move on...will that happen...probably not.

no, we can tie then and still be alive, but its highly unlikely that the final results will be in our favor.
