MY LIFE IN 1957
EC's Lookin' for Heaven in '57 How-dee, EC's just so proud to be here !!. The last time we spent a little spell together, I played you some Cajun music... today, I would like to edify you somewhat about another form of neglected and abused music in American society - bluegrass music... 'taint as bad as most of you think... stay with EC now, don't go to another thread... hang in with me for 3 or 4 minutes more. As a DJ for 32 years I want you to know there ain't no such thing as bad music... all music is good to people that like that particular kind of music... "good music" is music you personally like... "bad music" is something you don't particularly take a likin' to... EC don't cotton to Opera at all... don't cotton to most Classical... don't cotton too much to Jazz... and don't cotton to Rap and Hip Hop... but I don't say they are "bad music"... EC simply says it is just not my taste in music, but it is fine with me if you'd like to bless your pretty little bitty peapickin' ears with it. EC has never been a big fan of bluegrass music... but the musicians are very talented and I have learned to appreciate them and some of their songs... I just can't take a steady diet of bluegrass or any other of my favorite music... just give me my favorite styles of music in small doses... like maybe one bluegrass classic every 25 songs or so... variety is the spice of life... that is why EC makes his own CDs... I can mix all of my favorite genres together... Big Band, Pop, Country, Rock, Rhythm and Blues... and slip in an occasional Southern Gospel hymn, classical piano concerto, jazz cut... or maybe even some Cajun and bluegrass. Listen up all you buckaroos and little darlin's, too. Let's get down... let's get loud... let's turn up the volume. If it's too loud for you, then you're just too darn old to listen. Here Buck Owens doing some great pickin' and a-grinnin'... here some great bluegrass music. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...2385&FORM=VIRE Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-30-2022 at 04:54 PM. |

MY LIFE IN 1957
EC'S STILL LOOKIN' FOR HEAVEN IN '57 Howdy y'all... EC is just so proud to be here again !! Since we are on the subject of two items very close to my sweet little old peapickin' heart and very dear to EC... and perhaps a few other of you... I highly respect CD and jg2977... two very astute followers of the South Island League... so perhaps there are at least three of us, y'all. EC loves Cajun and Bluegrass music... at least on limited occasions, but not in bunches or whole CDs or whole vinyl albums... EC only listens to the classics in a few types of music... Pop, Rock, Country, R & B, Southern Gospel and Big Band... I don't listen to everything... variety of music is a must for EC. It is time for a little bit of levity and a little bit of laughter... "Today is the day the Lord has made, let's rejoice and be glad in it". God's Holy Bible also says, "Laughter is the best medicine". Lord Byron wrote, "Always laugh when you can. it's the cheapest medicine". To get through this tough World, one has to have a sense of humor... one has to laugh at themselves, too... ("humour" for all y'all that spell it funny in an unAmurican way... just teasin', Brits... EC loves y'all, too) "Laugh loudly, laugh often and most important, laugh at yourself". Yep, the Cajuns and the Bluegrass pickers, grinners and singers sho 'nuff laugh at themselves. EC was a cornball DJ for 32 years, so here goes: What’s the definition of “perfect pitch”? Answer: Someone who can throw the banjo in the dumpster and hit the accordion. (note: the Cajuns use the accordion as one of their main instruments) Is There Baseball in Heaven? Boudreaux and Thibodeaux were two of the biggest baseball fans in America. For their entire adult lives, they discussed baseball history all winter and they kept up with every score and statistic during the season. They went to maybe 77 or 67 or 57 games a year. They even agreed that whoever died first would try to come back and tell the other if there was baseball in heaven. One summer night, Boudreaux passed away in his sleep after watching the New Iberia Indians beat the Crowley Millers in the Grand Old Evangeline League earlier in the evening. He died happy. A few nights later, his buddy Thibodeaux awoke to the sound of Boudreaux's voice. "Boud, is dat you?", Thib asked. "Yeh it me," Boudreaux replied. "Dis is unbelievable!", Thibodeaux exclaimed. "So tell me, is der baseball in heaven?" Boudreaux says, "Well I got some good news and some bad news for you. Which do you want to hear first?" Thibodeaux said, "Tell me the good news first." Boudreaux answered, "Well, the good news is that, yes, there is baseball in heaven, Thib." "Oh, that is wonderful! So what could possibly be the bad news?" Boudreaux said, "Well, de bad news is dat you're pitching tomorrow night." EC hopes this little bitty post brought a smile or grin to your face. Monday, April 29, 1957 3 SECONDARY LEAGUE CO-LEADERS VICTORIOUS, SUPERMEN, TIGERS AND RAVENS STILL DEADLOCKED FOR 1ST PLACE Things are still tight-and-tense in South Island Secondary League circles... all 3 leaders were victors this past weekend, so the Littleville Supermen, Meraux Tigers and Anderson Ravens are still tied for the top spot... the Supermen whacked Grin Hill 11-3, the Tigers toppled Delacroix 11-4 and the Ravens ripped Braxton 9-0... all 3 clubs have identical 4-1 marks. Parkland, New Yerby and Billings are next in the standings with 3-2 records... the Perfectos pelted Cherrywood 8-3, the Yankees dumped Columbia 9-2 and the Rams walloped Gull Lake 9-2. |

Computer is acting strangely... very, very slow processing... won't be posting much for awhile... may need a new computer.
OOTP crashed when I tried to open in it up... finally got it to open, but it would take 30 seconds to process between each click. Will just shut everything down until I can get someone to look at it. The OOTP Forum is working OK... just a little slow processing between clicks... take 1-2 seconds, not 30 like the OOTP game. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-31-2021 at 05:17 PM. |

Computer still working... it is fine for surfing the internet and posting here on the OOTP Forums... but it is really slow booting up... and slow going to the internet... but once I get there, it is fine.
Successfully backed up my music library... and the Islandian Pro Alliance and South Island Leagues... the IPA to about 24 hours to back up on an external hard drive. It may take me a couple of weeks to get a new computer and get it loaded up. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-03-2022 at 10:11 PM. |

I just bought a new computer... it may be overkill... but it will take care of my OOTP needs for quite a few years... I got a very fine graphics card... it should handle OOTP animation improvements for a few versions of the game in the coming years.

I updated my Dell PC with a 2 TB dual drive.... this give me plenty enough storage.
I currently have 1 TB on my hard drive with 600 GB of free space on my old computer...since the new one is 512 GB, that would leave me with only 60 GB of free space... the new one will be 512 GB with a 2 TB dual drive... this should take care of my computer needs for a few years... I decided to get more than I needed just to be safe. Most people are telling me the IPA and the South Island Leagues will really be rockin' and a rollin' on this new computer. I have been quite content over the past 15 years with simple and fairly inexpensive computers... it looks like I have me a grand slammer this time around. |

I had my old computer checked by a technician today... he said it is fine and is not in danger of conking out on me... I was afraid it was failing because of the white screens that have recently been showing up and the slower processing... he said the white screens are a software problem, not a hardware problem.
So I can use it for my South Island Leagues and Islandian Pro Alliance until I get my new computer next month... it has to be built for me. So get ready for South Island and IPA baseball ! Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-07-2022 at 08:36 PM. |

MY LIFE IN 1957
EC's Lookin' for Heaven in '57 Nope, EC's life in '57 was not all heavenly and hunky dory...except when I entered the World of Make Believe... my world of movies, TV, music and sports... they were my bliss and my enjoyment... my getaway and my escape from my humdrum real life. Boy, I do miss those simple times... you never heard any discouraging words on TV or in the movies or in songs... no foul four-letter words like today... nowadays even the "ladies" will use four-letter words... we didn't use bad language much back in my day... bad language just shows a lack of vocabulary, education, culture and class... sometimes, a kid would use bad language, but not often... and never in the company of girls or adults... it just didn't happen... nowadays, sadly anything and everything goes and is permitted... comedy is just dirty, not funny... in my opinion society has declined in my lifetime (and no, I don't think EC is entirely responsible for it)... I really like today's TV shows like The Wire, Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Justified and The Sopranos... but the language was absolutely filthy and not necessary... both the language and gratuitous sex was severe overkill... the shows would have been just as good without the bad language and nudity. Sorry for the digression. Let's get back to the good old days of '57... (not in any order) my favorite shows back then were The Ed Sullivan Show, $64,000 Question, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (I couldn't wait to hear Ricky Nelson newest record), Mickey Mouse Show (every afternoon EC just had to watch and pine for Annette Funicello), Dick Clark's American Bandstand, The Jack Benny Show, I've Got A Secret, Gunsmoke, The Perry Como Show, The Millionaire, You Bet Your Life, The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show, Robin Hood, People Are Funny, The Phil Silvers Show, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, The Jackie Gleason Show and Name That Tune... they were all in the Top 30 shows. 1957 was first season for several new shows that I enjoyed... shows like Have Gun-Will Travel, Maverick and Zorro... it was also the debut seasons for some classics that I didn't watch a whole lot, but many millions did... Perry Mason, Wagon Train, and Leave It to Beaver... never liked Perry Mason... he would never lose a case... Wagon Train was too slow and too cerebral... didn't like the obviously phony outdoor sets, either... Beaver and Eddie Haskell just didn't grab me... but, hey, I did wish I was as good-looking as Beaver's brother, Wally, played by Tony Dow. The thought just hit me...(yep, thoughts sometimes still come to this old fella)... the only regular series I watch now is Better Call Saul... and it hasn't been on in 2 years or so... it doesn't look like it will ever return... there is absolutely nothing else on TV that I care to watch... but I do enjoy Jane Pauley on her CBS Sunday Morning Show and 60 Minutes... also like Brian Kenny and a few of the MLB network shows (except for Kevin Millar on Intentional Talk... he's is just too silly and goofy... he wants to be a "personality" and entertain you more rather than inform you about baseball)... never watch ESPN anymore... they just talk sports too death... just like MLB... all I can stand is mayby one program a day... otherwise, they all cover the same stories over and over and ad infinitum... same thing on the network and cable news programs... all they want to do is get ratings any way they can... there is no such thing as giving both sides to each question and let the viewers make up their own mind... EC can do without Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok and all of social media... but I would really, really like to keep the OOTP Forums... you could get rid of all the others, but just keep OOTP. Yep, EC just might be a little old peapickin' hypocrite of some sort... but I still need my own peapickin' World of Make Believe. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-15-2022 at 12:48 PM. |

Monday, May 6, 1957 ST. DOMINIC SPOILS 1ST PLACE MYSTIC'S PERFECT RECORD IN SI SUPREME LEAGUE After 5 straight weekends of wins, the high-sailing Mystic Mariners finally tasted defeat for the first time this season, but they are still on top of the standings... Mystic suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the St. Dominic Saints... good pitching can beat anybody on any given day... and that was in abundance this weekend in the South Island Supreme League... Jackson jolted the Pelham Oaks 12-1, Zebulon zapped the Moon Valley Dreamers 3-1 and St. Luke's Place shut down the St. Pete Pelicans 4-1... some runs were scored in the other two games... Bar Harbor bashed the Delta Stars 8-4 and Kofa cruised by the Guedon Gators 8-2. South Island Supreme League Stars of the Week |
