Last night's 5-4 loss to the Mets officially eliminated the San Diego Padres from the post season. Astros SP Tom Griffin was placed on the DL with mild shoulder inflammation. Steve Rogers was named AL Rookie of the Month after going 4-1 with an ERA of 1.89 and 23 strikeouts in 52.1 innnings. Hand started the bottom of the seventh by striking out Meoli for his 90th K of the season. Blue started the top of the eighth by walking Billings and was replaced by Rollie Fingers. Fingers made sure Billings didn't even get to second. Rain began to fall in the bottom of the eighth. But stopped one batter later. Tenace hit a 3-run homer with one out and that was all she wrote for hand. Don Stanhouse replaced Hand on the mound. Epstein singled to give the Athletics 10 hits in the game. Stanhouse walked a pair and the bases were loaded with two out. Tolan then also drew a walk to bring home a run. Bando then flew out to center to finally end the inning as 10 Athletics came up to bat. In the bottom of the ninth, Howard got an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
