That I can understand as long I can try to make it like the CFL im happy but my biggest question so there will be a option to make the game 3 downs, the rest for me is not really important if its like the NFL so be it.

Unfortunately I can't make any guarantees on if downs will be customizable for V1 yet.

Thank you for your quick reply and I didn't expect it to be in there but it would be an nice feature eventually.

Okay, so the first iteration of BTS won't have true historical leagues in that the way the game of football (i.e. the plays, statistical environment, etc.) was played in earlier years was too different from its current state and thus would require a lot of research and coding to get correct.

I'm perfectly okay with that.

However, might it be possible to have what might be called "pseudo" historical leagues? That is, these leagues would use the contemporary brand of football in terms of its plays, statistical environment, salary cap rules, etc., and rosters of fictional players, but would otherwise emulate the past NFL in terms of member cities, league alignment, season length, schedules, and playoff formats? That would at least offer a first approximation of historical leagues (much in the way an approximation of the CFL could be rendered). Yes, they'd be fictional players within a historically-themed universe, but such fictional-historical league combinations can be fun do to. It's a sort of "what if" recreation.

If nothing else this would get the team/league-level aspect of historical leagues out of the way, leaving the (presumably much) harder aspect of the on-the-field historical football to be handled later.

By the way, I think Mr. Cole's nickname on the board should be "Cole Train" in honour of Augustus "Cole Train" Cole, thrashball player extraordinaire and exuberant COG soldier from the Gears of War series of games.

Do you anticipate problems with the NFL, as Markus is beginning to have with MLB?

We should be okay with the player names/stats due to the court case.

If we ever had to remove the real nicknames, I think maybe it would be better to have none and say "Dallas@New England"
rather than make up something like "Dallas Razorbacks @ New England Wildcats"

Because the first would still be fairly realistic, but the second one obviously removes any semblance of reality.

I also have the far more difficult task compared to OOTP in that in the NFL there is still a certain stereotype with certain positions and the ethnicity of the players.Which I also realise may be a sensitive topic to some.
Yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from. But let me say, that as someone who has come up around a culture that may been linked with those stereotypical names and positions, I see no problem with accurately depicting and implementing this as it occurs in real life. And likewise, I wouldn't fault you at all if there weren't many kickers or punters with these distinct ethnic names you might see with a tailback or receiver. This stuff shouldn't be offensive, really we should celebrate our differences and embrace our similarities. That's what sports are about, really, imo.

What do you do with the Giants and Jets? (Or Cardinals and Bears, for those who remember Chicago's two-team days.) New York @ New York might be a little confusing.

I really like that solution.

We will have to think what to do for the those exceptions (even if it's the dreaded New York @ New Jersey), but I think in general it's much better to have "Dallas @ New England" rather than make up some nicknames which everyone know will be false and look stupid.

I agree, actually. One way to differentiate would be New York (A) and New York (N) with the (A) and (N) standing for American and National conference, respectively.

(I prefer the city names for showing match-ups rather than team nicknames in any event, so I'd always prefer to see Dallas @ New England instead of Cowboys @ Patriots. I personally find it easier to read and follow using the city part of the names.)

Are you proposing having no team nicknames at all? If I'm choosing to run a custom league with the New England Wildcats, I'd hate the game to hide that... Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Hopefully the NFL won't care about your custom league, so we can have nicknames for those.

Hi so excited about the new game, wondering..and sorry if it has been asked in the previous 22 pages, but will the college players have statistics for their college careers, even though we cant control them? So prior to draft we can view their college stats as well as combine stuff?

real players/stats - if we can get the research in time.
The generated players - 99.99% Yes.

Would you provide the option to add/edit the nicknames? That way we as the user can just rename them to the proper names?
