The State of Sumo: July 1759
- For a second time, Shirakawa Shigaemon failed to secure a second consecutive Yusho and misses a promotion to Yokozuna. - Tomozuna Ryosuke is the reigning cup holder heading into the July basho but a second victory will not get him promoted to Yokozuna as he is only a Sekiwake (ranked there following his promotion from Komusubi in March). He has won 33 matches over the past three basho but could not be promoted to Ozeki from Komusubi. As a Sekiwake, he will have to earn eight or more victories in the July basho to total 33 over three basho again and will be promoted to Ozeki in November (he almost certainly will achieve eight wins). So, his quickest route to Yokozuna would be to win again in July as a Sekiwake and win a third straight in November as an Ozeki. - The Ozeki ranks are getting crowded. There are already four. Tomozuna will undoubtedly become the fifth in July (barring injury). So, regardless who wins in July, there will be a total of five Ozeki and no Yokozuna in November. - The Komusubi and Sekiwake ranks can only have two rikishi while there is no limit to Yokozuna or Ozeki. I hope that we have a Yokozuna after November but is seems tough to pull off two straight. Attached is the record book for all rikishi through the March basho (excel spreadsheet - first tab index has links to rikishi record pages in alpha order).

If anyone is interested in this table top dice and card game, it is available again. The developer posted this on his message board (the developer (Joe) is a member here by the way - statfreak)
============================================== The original Basho Fury Sumo Simulation game has been added to Sideline Strategy as a pay what you want game. The suggested amount is $5, but can changed to any amount, including $0 if you prefer to freely download it. The only catch is you must be logged into the web store to be able to download the file as guest checkout is not functioning. Once you have the game parts, head over to the BASHO FURY | Sideline Strategyto freely download the yearly ratings (1970 through 2014) and the two All-Time Greats (1927-1969 & 1970-2011) card sets. I am planning an updated version of the game for 2016. If you have any suggestions for the new version, please send them to me at Joe -at- SidelineStrategy dot com.

By the way, if you enjoyed the old table top version of title bout, I think there is a good chance that you would like Basho Fury. I am enjoying it immensely.

The state of sumo: November, 1759
- Shirakawa Shigaemon won his third Emperor's Cup (Yusho) in July so once again has an opportunity to gain promotion to the rank of Yokozuna in November if he can capture a second consecutive cup. - Tomozuna Ryosuke has exceeded 33 wins over the last three bashos and will be promoted from Sekiwake to the crowded Ozeki rank for November. He will be the fifth Ozeki. - Ozeki Goshonoura Heidayu had a losing record in July (7-8) for a make-koshi. It is difficult to gain Ozeki rank and a rikishi is not demoted after one make-koshi. He is labeled 'kadoban' at the following basho where he must attain kachi-koshi (eight wins) or be demoted to Sekiwake. - There is a fast rising star. Arasuna Tokiemon debuted in the Makus-hita division in March, was promoted to Juryo in November where he went 15-0 taking the Yusho and has been installed as the west Maegashira 11 for November. Attached is an excel workbook with the records for all rikishi. The first tab contains an index where you can click on a name and be taken to that wrestler's record tab. A link in the top right of the record tab will bring you back to the index.
