Jays take 3 of 4!

Should have been a sweep and a second place tie with the Yanks, but a blown save Saturday prevented that.

This series sent a strong message to the Yanks though. We're very much still in this thing.

Hinske appears to have been doing what he was supposed to do this year, why don't you guys want him (other than the contract...)?

probably because other than this year, he's never done what he was supposed too.

Btw what did we get back for him?

Nothing, really. But who cares... he's gone.

The reason we wanted him gone isn't anything against Hinske. From what I can tell, he's a great guy and a great teammate (more than you could say about that sack of crap in Hillenbrand that for some reason actually was considered to have value...). The problem is he's vastly overpaid. And the thinking every year was "If Hinske finally has a year where he doesn't completely suck, trade him while you can." We finally had a chance to trade him, so fans are happy.

Yeah, I'm glad they got rid of him, but...

Two player-to-be-named deals in two days. It's starting to look like a salary dump to me. Have the telecom overlords ordered J.P. to throw in the towel on the season and try to cut losses?

I wouldn't put it past Mr. Rogers.

When you think about it, though, it makes sense. Hinkse was going to be nothing more than a bit player for 5+ million. Wasn't Schoeneweis going to be a FA after this year? Even if the Jays make a run, I can't see either Hinske or Schoeneweis making a big difference so why not get something for them and clear up salary room for next year?

I reading out here in Calgary that Vernon Well apparently wants out in Toronto once he is a free agent. Since I am no longer close to Toronto, anyone heard any rumblings about this locally?

Exactly. It IS a salary dump, but not because of some fire sale, but unlike in New York and Boston, there is a set budget. The 5 million Hinske was going to be paid can now go towards a free agent.

It's all just speculation, it's been happening for months.

It's based upon Wells comments that he'd "Love to be reunited with (Michael Young)" combined with an assumed desire that he wants to play close to home, most are assuming he's going to jump ship and head to the Rangers.

On the other side, he did say very recently that he loves Toronto and wants to remain a part of what looks like a team headed in the right direction. Still, everyone says this. Some (Halladay) are genuine, others less so. Though I do believe Delgado really did love it here, and just got so insulted by JP's offer of 6M he left... Hopefully he doesn't do the same thing to Wells.

You never know with JP. I think he's an alright GM but think he rubs people the wrong way sometimes (or at least it appears that way as an outsider).
