MBL news: Oct. 24 -- Rockford postseason statistics (all games) and MVP
Wade Martin was named the Most Valuable Player of the postseason as the Rockford Lightning claimed their first World Series title by defeating the Columbus Golden Bears in six games.
The Lightning had advanced out of the National League championship series by defeating the Cedar Rapids Grapplers in six games.
In 12 postseason games, Martin batted .302with 10 homers, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
He got on base at a .464 clip and slugged 1.023.
Martin was named MVP of the NLCS.

St. Louis River Walkers have announced that bench coach Brandon Backe has retired after four seasons with the team.
The 61-year-old Backe joined the Walkers prior to the 2036 season and helped lead them to the playoffs in 2036 and 2037.
Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the manager of the Cedar Rapids Grapplers.

The St. Louis River Walkers have announced that first baseman Nick Shaw and second baseman Ryan Wibbenmeyer have decided to exercise their options and will remain with the club for the 2040 season.
The team also revealed that closer Craig Fritzler has declined his option to remain with the team for the 2040 season.
Shaw, 30, is in the third season of a deal which will pay him $28 million per campaign until 2044. (St. Louis has team options on the 2043 and 2044 season).
This past season, the 2035 MVP played 149 games (142 starts) and batted .262 with 26 homers, 75 RBIs and 78 runs scored.
Wibbenmeyer, 31, is going into the third season of a deal which will pay him $68 million through 2041. The team has an opt out for the 2041 season.
Injuries slowed Wibbenmeyer in 2039, as he played in 120 games (111 starts) and batted .279 with two homers, 22 RBIs and 51 runs scored.
The 32-year-old Fritzler decided not to pick up the final year of his three-year contract with the Walkers, where he was scheduled to be paid $9,750,000.
Fritzler pitched in 50 games in 2039 going 4-3 with 27 saves and a 2.70 ERA.
However, he led the league with 11 blown saves.

The St. Louis River Walkers have exercised the options on reliever Leo Hermosillo and Chris Willett, bringing them both back for the 2040 season.
Hermosillo, 33, got into 59 games for the Walkers going 4-1 with three saves and a 2.50 ERA.
St. Louis acquired Hermosillo in a mid-season trade with Chicago in 2038.
He will make $6 million in 2040.
Willett, 29, finally broke into the majors in 2039 with the Walkers and had some success.
He pitched in 67 games going 5-6 with a 3.44 ERA.
Willett will be paid $5 million during the 2040 season.

The St. Louis River Walkers have announced Graham Christensen as their new bench coach.
He replaced Brandon Backe, who retired after the 2039 season.
Christiensen is the former manager of the Madison Muskies, having led them for three seasons from 2031-203.
