Japan enters opening day with all 3 of our players in the big league clubs they were with last year.
Shiroma Hisato remains the number 1 pitcher for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. He went 2-1 from 6 game starts in spring training. Juan Campos looks like he will be the number 4 batter for the Hanshin Tigers this year. He will also play second base. His spring training numbers saw him hit for an average of .200 Nishikiri Shoda has made the Saitama Seibu Lions roster again this year. He will be the right fielder for the team and will bat number 4 this year. Spring training saw him hit for .296. |

It was a bad day for Gabriel Eskola yesterday. He was hit by a pitch and crumpled to the ground straight away.
The doctors rushed straight onto the field but he was down for some minutes as they treated him. He still looked groggy when he got up and was taken from the field. The San Francisco Giants confirmed later that Eskola had suffered concussion and they were going to treat it carefully with a recovery time expected at 3 to 4 weeks. |

1st May 2023 MLB
The First Full month of play has completed for most of our players.
MLB Players Kelford Clark had an excellent month as he got into 14 games. He had a record of 1-0 with an ERA of 3.00. The big number in the month was the 8 saves he picked up from those 14 games with only 1 blown save in the same time. This work has helped the Detroit Tigers into an early lead in the AL Central Division Gabriel Eskola was having a solid start to the season with the San Francisco Giants before he was injured. He played in 19 games and picked up 3 home runs, 5 RBI's and 10 runs scored. His batting average was .227 over those games. The San Francisco Giants are 3rd in the NL West. Bart Snyder has put up some good numbers in the first month of play this year. He has a batting average of .303 over the 26 games that he played. He also hit 5 home runs with 21 RBI's and 17 runs scored. The Chicago White Sox are 4th in the AL Central Division. Dan Hurt has had a quiet month for him during April. He only hit for an average of .266 during the 27 games played. He had 1 home run and 12 RBI's along with 12 runs scored. His Philadelphia Phillies are doing better as they sit top of the NL East division after the early running. Billy Edwards has had a strong start to the year for him as he hit .286 over the 26 games he played. He had 2 home runs, 10 RBI's and 14 runs scored. This hasn't helped the Houston Astros much as they sit 4th in the AL West Division. Luis Elizondo has been trying his hardest in April to help his Milwaukee Brewers with a batting average of .284. This is not the case though as the Brewers sit last in the NL Central division. Elizondo had 7 home runs, 20 RBI's and 15 runs scored during the month as well. MLB Tables |

Juan Campos has played 23 games this year, all starts, and has a batting average of .329. He has also hit 1 home run with 11 RBI's and 9 runs scored. This has helped the Hanshin Tigers up to the 2nd place in the Central League. Nishikiri Shoda started 24 games during April and hit for an average of .269. He also had 3 home runs, 12 RBI's and 13 runs. This hasn't really helped the Saitama Seibu Lions as they sit bottom of the Pacific League table. Japan Tables |

The Japanese All Star game is upon us and we have at least 1 star selected.
Shiroma Hisato was picked as the top starting pitcher in the Pacific League by the fans even though he spent most of June and July injured. He will not be able to take his place as he remains on the sidelines. Juan Campos was voted the top second baseman in the Central League and will line up for the Central All Stars. Nishikiri Shoda made it to second place in the Pacfic League right fielders. He still made the All Star team as he was called up by this year's head coach. |
