Francis, I'd like to know how BTS will deal with 'home field advantage?' Will the Seahawks be tough to beat at home? How about the 'time differential' for teams having to fly across country?
I'd love to tell you that stuff will be in V1, but I think realistically I have already a bit much to do for V1 unfortunately.

i'd rather see stat summaries show up in the draft overviews... Sorry to keep bringing it up, I couldn't help myself. I will try and use some restraint now.

I understand that customisation is not a priority in V1 and I'm happy with that, but does this affect small-scale editing, like changing an individual players ratings?

Yes; there is an in-game player editor where you can change their attributes!

Forgive me if this has been asked but there are A LOT of pages of questions to sort through:

Who else is on your dev team? Anyone from OOTP fame or all fresh faces? Would you care to introduce them?

Do you have any plans for an in-game "NFL.com" style website?

If not, I hereby suggest one. It could be the starting point when looking up all individual and team statistics in the game, and also track things like media/fan opinion of their team's performances, pro bowl voting, the upcoming draft class, you name it.

I believe not, maybe in other iterations but even then it would just be CFL players playing with NFL regulations.

First of all, delighted to hear this game is being made -- if I can finally replace Madden, I'll stop screaming obscenities at the television when the Browns aren't on TV -- could prolong my marriage!

One question I don't think I've seen (and forgive me if you've already answered it): are you going to include something DVOA from Football Outsiders? I know OOTP has the deal with Baseball Prospectus, I was wondering if you were pursuing something similar. Offensive line is obviously the most difficult to judge purely at a statistical level; if you attribute sack blame properly, I think that'll go a long way.

The most important thing, and you've touched on a bit already, is the draft. However, I wanted to ask if UDFAs will be in the game too, and how you would track them down?

I think BTS will have to become somewhat established before Football Outsiders or PFF would consider a deal like the one OOTP has with BP.

Yes there will be UDFA; lots of them. We will have college players, and whoever don't get drafted will obviously become a UDFA.

Francis,

BTS sound amazing thus far, and I'm eagerly anticipating more info on it. Just a few questions, though:

  1. Will you be able to create a fictional world with fictional players but real world teams like in OOTP: (ie., can I be the Browns but have all fictional players and no history from the get-go?)
  2. Will FaceGen be locked at a player's retirement like in this year's edition of OOTP or FM (that way no players will look like they are on death's doorstep)
  3. Finally, how extensive do you think the built in player name list for fictional players will be? Any chance you could put something like QuestDog's modern names for OOTP in the vanilla game from its outset?
Thanks!

1)I think so, but I check back with me towards the end of the year!. At the very least you'd be able to create your fictional league and name the teams manually to be the real life teams.

2)Good question; I have no idea yet! For FaceGen I use the same code as OOTP, so I presume it will be the same as OOTP

3)I'm not too sure yet what the player name list will look like, however it certainly won't be the same which is used for OOTP because your average NFL name is totally different to your average MLB name (cultural reasons etc). Currently the name is list I use is all the names that have been in the NFL for past 2 decades or so.
I also have the far more difficult task compared to OOTP in that in the NFL there is still a certain stereotype with certain positions and the ethnicity of the players.Which I also realise may be a sensitive topic to some.

Is it safe to assume there will be a Mac version for v1?

If BTS is fully customizable, then im sure there will be a quick release for the CFL league on the game. That's my one gripe with FOF7, as I know nothing about coding and the game doesn't have an editor so to speak.

Im assuming V1 might not have it and as said above just with NFL rules because its a totally different league wille pile a CB for the Cowboys is a line backer in CFL but if it eventually gets included That would be awesome. Now that said i dont even follow the cfl just both games would be awesome to have in BTS eventually like OOTP and other leagues, particularity because its the older league :P

It's customizable in the sense you be able to have the teams/players who are called the same as the real CFL players/teams. But the CFL is really a different sport so it won't be exactly the same.
It's like presuming as OOTP is fully customizable you will be able to 100% duplicate a Softball league.
