Greetings to you too!

I seem to remember Malte saying that the availability of languages will depend on the availability of volunteers to translate the text.

Thats right. Technically we can release the game in as many languages as we want (the source code is prepared), the challenge is to translate all the external files (news, storylines, ...). And the game will have a lot of text thanks to the hard work of all the OOTP volunteers in the past.

The game will ship with English. German would be a natural fit (but we would need at least one person to help us) and I would love to have a French and a Swedish version (for both I got a few help offers).

Apart from HLS and EHM, I never found any other hockey game remotely interesting, although I have plunked down $80 for two versions of the yet to be fully developed Wolverine Studios hockey game to support what I hoped would be a worthy successor to the two games I noted above.

Too quiet here lately so here's a couple requests...

I'd like to see contracted assistant coaches and assistant coaches offered contacts for a promotion with a competing team in the same pro league but only for a higher position (like Head Coach, and GM respectively). We see this happen a fair amount in todays NHL where the one team will have to ask the other team for permission to negotiate and they always give it as long as it's not for the same job title.

Another random feature request is the ability to trade "Conditional" draft picks. *Conditions could be must get past 1st round, or 2nd round etc of playoffs or player must play more then 60 games...

I like the idea to lure coaches or scouts away. If a coach/scout does not get the chance to accept the new (better) job, his contentment should decrease and it will be harder to renew his contract.

I'm not sure about that. I think this feature makes it relatively easy to outsmart the ai and the increase of fun is not very considerable.

Yeah you have to think that if you don't give another team permission to negotiate with that staff member they'd hold a grudge with you and your organization and not want to resign. On top of that the other team would most certainly hold a grudge too so if you were to ever ask them for permission they could say no but then they'd also risk upsetting their staff member. Perhaps these scenarios happened in the NHL awhile ago but i still think that almost always the team will allow them to negotiate as long as it's not for the same position.

And it also builds the scenario where you might have a long standing Asst. GM who just is happy to stay with your team at the same position for the time being so he just rejects the offers. I love having loyal players and coaches in these games

Conditional picks really wouldn't be that different than contract bonuses, though.

Random but... I agree English, French, German and Swedish would be good languages for the game to be in if all works out with the translating help but what about Russian? Any plans to give them a Russian version? Just curious about it is all! As I remember sometime on the EHM website there was people requesting Russian! (and obviously its a big hockey place too).

Another thing on the topic of passports and languages... Will players in the game learn new languages and pick up new nationalities once they've been in the country for the right amount of time?

Thanks for any info!

To make the game even more realistic this type of injury should be in the game.

Sabres' Ruff injured after getting upended during practice

Yes, it will be possible to pick up a new nationality.
Right now, we don't use languages. We just use the players adaptability attribute to determine how good/fast a player adapt to a new country.

Absolutely great news. I like baseball and loved the OOTP 7,11,12 and iphone games.
But NHL hockey is my favorite sport so I can't wait to play this sim and win a Cup with the Leafs. So hurry up! Lol.
BTW: Do you include the winter classic? Would be fun to see who gets the game every year....

Well, if it's any help, I work exclusively from home now, so I have a depressingly large amount of free time spent in front of a computer. If you need any help with the translating to french or scouting, I'd love to participate. My job is translating french-english and vice-versa anyways, so it's a natural fit.

I stumbled on this thread while listening to a Sabres game.. I hope this project is still a go. I spend half my life playing OOTP baseball and would love nothing more than playing OOTP hockey with the other half!

I am very much looking forward to this!

EDIT: Consecutive posts from Rochester, NY people! Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

I'm very excited about this as well! Joined the forums specifically for this purpose.

Two in a row from Rochester. I'm from Buffalo, NY (though I live in TX now). Rochester is no coincidence at all, a little hockey hotbed up there. Plenty of rejoicing that the Amerks are back affiliated with the Sabres, I assume?
