Japan - Lightweights - Round 1

There are 13 Samurai (can't resist...) in the Lightweight division. The top 3 seeds are Jaguar Kakizawa, Iwao Otomo & Buzzsaw Yamabe. These 3 fighters recieve 1st round byes.

Round 1:

Juro Fukada vs Shimon Handa - Another barnburner as Handa gave as good as he got despite a pair of knockdowns. Unfortunately in the 9th round he went down for the 3rd time for the count. The judges had it 4-4, 4-3, 3-5 a draw through 8 rounds.

Teruo Kosaka vs Wataru Maeda - Kosaka was boxing effortlessly in this one when an accidental butt caused a gash over his right eye to end the fight in the 8th round. The fight went to the scorecards which showed Kosaka winning handily by the score of 5-2, 6-1, 6-1.

Noriyuki Nakata vs Shunsuke Takeuchi - Nakata cut Takeuchi over both eyes, but suffered a pair of knockdowns in this back and forth fight. Nakata seemed the fresher in the latter rounds, though I had Takeuchi winning 8-7 while Jim Trunzo had it 8-6 Takeuchi. The crowd boo'd loudly when the judges scores of 8-7, 8-7, 8-7 for Nakata were announced!

Ishimatsu Suzuki vs Koichi Fukuda - A tale of 2 sluggers, Fukuda gave as good as he got, but faded in the championship rounds and was unable to handle Suzuki's swarming style in the 15th round. Suzuki scored a pair of knockdowns before the referee ended it for the 15 TKO. Suzuki looked the beaten fighter with his left eye nearly swollen shut with a cut over the outside eyebrow of the same orb, but came out victorious. I had it 9-5 Suzuki while my counterpart Lee MacRae had it 8-5 Suzuki. The judges scored it 7-6, 8-5, 9-4 Suzuki.

Kengo Nagashima vs Kazuyoshi Kumano - Back and forth bout with both men having good moments, but not as great of action as we've come to expect over all from these 2 Japanese fighters. Nagashima couldn't effectively cut the ring off at times as Kumano did well used the ring well at times. The judges scored the fight 7-7, 8-6, 6-6 for the Majority Draw. Both Dan Cuoco and I felt Nagashima took the final 4 rounds to win 8-6. Rematch to follow.

Rematch:

Kengo Nagashima vs Kazuyoshi Kumano - Nagashima's pressure made sure there was no question of the outcome in this one. While Kumano faded in the latter rounds, Nagashima came on hard, scoring a knockdown in the 14th round then going on to win the 11-4, 11-4, 12-3 decision.

Japan - Lightweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Jaguar Kakizawa vs Kengo Nagashima - The boxer Kakizawa outfoxed the slugger Nagashima, using the entire ring and countering very well throughout. Javier Aguirre Flores had it 9-6 and I had it 10-5 for Kakizawa. The judges scored the fight 10-4, 8-6, 10-5 for the winner Kakizawa.

Iwao Otomo vs Teruo Kosaka - Not a lot of fireworks in this one but a solid performance by bothOtomo and Kosaka. It went to the judges (I had it 8-7 Kosaka, while my co-announcer Will Schubert had it 9-5 Kosaka) scored it 7-6 Kosaka, 7-7 even and 8-7 for the winner Kosaka by Majority Decision.

Buzzsaw Yamabe vs Noriyuki Nakata - Yamabe was by far the stronger of the 2 as he mixed in power with his boxing skills. He opened a cut over the right eye of Nakata in the 8th round and it reopened then widened in the 9th to end things for the TKO.

Juro Fukuda vs Ishimatsu Suzuki - Back and forth bout that had both men in trouble at times though there were no knockdowns, swelling or cuts on either fighter. I had Suzuki coming on strong in the end to win 8-7, while Romy Alvarez had it 9-5 for Fukuda. Several close rounds made the anticipation so thick you could cut it with a knife as the announcer read the decision! The judges had it 8-7 Suzuki, 9-6 Fukuda, 9-6 for the winner Suzuki!

Japan - Lightweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Semi-Finals:

Jaguar Kakizawa vs Teruo Kosaka - Kakizawa patiently picked Kosaka apart using a rapier jab, lightning quck combinations and superior footspeed throughout. Things ended in the 10th when a cut on the left eyelid of Kosaka became so bad that the doctor ordered the fight ended. Kakizawa landed an astounding 58.1% of his shots compared with 14.9% by Kosaka.

Buzzsaw Yamabe vs Ishimatsu Suzuki - Yamabe scored a pair of knockdowns yet was bloodied over both eyes before the fight was stopped due to those cuts. Suzuki was behind 6-2, 5-2, 4-3 yet walks out the winner with the 9th round TKO!

Final:

Jaguar Kakizawa vs Ishimatsu Suzuki - Kakizawa glided across the canvas using a stinging jab and quick combinations to control the action throughout. There were several close rounds as Suzuki showed the heart of a lion, refusing to give up. Unfortunately an accidental head butt ended the fight early and it was sent to the judges. They scored it 5-3, 7-1, 7-1 for Kakizawa who moves on to the World Tournament.

Japan - Jr. Lightweights - Round 1

With 24 fighters in the Jr. Lightweight division there will be 8 fights in the 1st round with the top 8 seeds recieving a bye.

Round 1:

Kazunori Fujita vs Masahiro Asami - Fujita had complete control through 11 rounds when a cut on his left eyelid reopened to end the fight sending Asami to the next round with the upset 12th round TKO!

Nobuhito Honmo vs Hidekazu Matsunobu - Honmo dominated throughout to earn the 12-3, 13-2, 13-1 decision.

Kenji Iwata vs Akira Ebisuoka - Iwata was in total control, boxing well and making Ebisuoka look ineffectual at times. Suddenly out of nowhere a solid shot to the jaw of Iwata broke his jaw! Iwata retired handing Ebisuoka the TKO in the 13th! Iwata was up 9-3, 11-1, 11-1 through 12.

Takao Maruki vs Ryu Fukida - Maruki boxed well throughout, with Fukida having moments where he cut the ring off well enough to score. This was another close hard to score fight that I had going to Maruki 7-6 while our ringside expert Shane Macleod had it 9-4. the judges scores were 9-5, 7-6, 11-2 for Maruki!

Yasutsune Uehara vs Blazer Okubo - This started out as a brilliant fight with both fighters at center ring toe to toe for the first 4 rounds! There were several rounds that were too tough to call. I had it 5-9 for Okubo while ringside expert Rocco Del Sesto had it 5-5 a draw. It went to the judges who scored it 6-5 for Okubo, 7-4 for Uehara and 6-5 for Okubo by split decision!

Hikaru Tomonari vs Katsuji Sano - Sano started out strong, ahead 4-3 through 7 on my card then faded as both eyes started to swell badly. Tomonari took rounds 8 through 14 then was knocked down in the 15th by a wild right hook! Tomonari survived to send the fight to the judges who scored it 11-4, 10-4, 8-7 for Tomonari.

Yoshiaki Numata vs Toshikazu Suzuki - Guile and handspeed over came power as Numata boxed a perfect fight to win 7-6, 9-5, 9-5.

Bomber Uchida vs Kinji Amano - Uchida worked in craftsman like fashion, building up a nice lead while keeping Amano at bay. In the 11th round a cut that first opened in the 10th reopened over the right eye of Amano ending the fight for the TKO on cuts by Uchida.

Japan - Jr. Lightweights - Round 2

Round 2:

Hiroshi Kobayashi vs Masahiro Asami -
Kobayashi dominated Asami with excellent ring presence, timing his dancing around Asami's attempts at cutting the ring off. After 15 rounds the judges scored the bout 11-3, 12-2, 12-2 for Kobayashi.

Apollo Yoshio vs Akira Ebisuoka -
Ebisuoka tried to make up with volume what he lacked in accuracy landing only 13.53 punches per round while missing an astounding 122.33 punches per round (10%). Yoshio on the other hand was more accurate yet less active landing 19.00 per round compared to 30.07 misses (38.7%). The judges were impressed by Yoshio's defensive skills scoring the bout 9-4, 6-6 (I guess this judge preferred aggression) 8-5 for the majority decision for Yoshio.

Yusuke Kobori vs Blazer Okubo -
Kobori dominated in this one, cutting Okubo along the way then reopening it in the 9th for the TKO. At the time of the stop Kobori was up 8-0, 7-1, 8-0 as Okubo was unable to mount an effective offense.

Keita Manabe vs Yoshiaki Numata -
Decent action bout saw Numata control the pace of the fight, and despite the superior defensive skills of Manabe taking the split decision 8-6, 5-8, 9-5. Manabe was unable to handle the sheer volume of punches by Numata in this one.

Kuniaki Shibata vs Bomber Uchida -
Not much to choose from between these two fighters, and the score cards reflected it as the judges scored it 8-6 Uchida, 7-7, 7-7 for the Majority Draw. Rematch to come.

Ryuhei Sugita vs Nobuhito Honmo -
Back and forth bout with little action saw Sugita do just enough to earn the 8-7, 10-5, 8-7 decision.

Yuji Watanabe vs Takao Maruki -
Amazing back and forth bout that saw Watanabe pick himself off the canvas in the 4th and 5th rounds to come on strong in the 8th round for the TKO win by referee decision as he hurt Maruki early and often throughout the round! Watanabe was up 4-3, 3-4, 4-3 through 7 rounds.

Yoshimitsu Asato vs Hikaru Tomonari -
Tomonari mounted a furious offense, keeping Asato off balance throughout. Asato went to the canvas 2 times in the 14th and 3rd time in the 15th to punctuate Tomonari's dominance. The judges scored it 11-3, 12-2, 11-3 for Tomonari.

Rematch:

Kuniaki Shibata vs Bomber Uchida -
Shibata came out fast, dominating the first 4 rounds only to have Shibata fight his way back into the fight. Things went back and forth with Uchida showing the worst of it with a swelling left eye and a bad cut over the right eye that ended up being the deciding factor as it reopened in the 12th round for the TKO win for Shibata.

Japan - Jr. Lightweights - Quarter Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Hiroshi Kobayashi vs Yoshiaki Numata -
Kobayashi suffered a cut in the early going, and it reopened several times so even though he was dominating with his boxing skills, his corner sent him out for the KO. The tactic worked as he had Numata's eye near closing and was pummeling him badly until the referee ended the bout for the TKO! Kobayashi was up 7-1, 6-2, 6-2 through the 8th round.

Apollo Yoshio vs Hikaru Tomonari -
Tough back and forth fight that was a pick-em bout through the 11th round was ended when Tomonari's left eyebrow started spurting blood from a previous cut. Score it a 12th round TKO for Yoshio.

Yusuke Kobori vs Kuniaki Shibata -
Brutal action at times as Shibata was very effective at cutting the ring off while Kobori was counter-punching very well off the ropes! Shibata had forged a 5-3 lead on all 3 cards when he suffered a huge gash over his right eyebrow that ended things in the 9th to hand Kobori the TKO on cuts!

Ryuhei Sugita vs Yuji Watanabe -
It didn't matter what happened with the rest of the fight card as these 2 left it all out on the canvas, with Watanabe scoring 2 knockdowns while building up a lead then being knocked down 3 times, the final time in the 8th round for the KO! Sugita was down 2-5, 2-5, 3-4 when he scored the KO!

Japan - Jr. Lightweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Semi-Finals:

Hiroshi Kobayashi vs Yusuke Kobori -
Kobori came out fast taking the first 3 rounds. Kobayashi's comeback was slowed when he went down in the 6th round. That was Kobori's last gasp however as he faded in the championship rounds and Kobayashi came on strong. I had it 10-5 Kobayashi and my counterpart Mark A. Jones had it 8-6 Kobayashi. The judges scored it 9-6, 8-7, 10-5 for Kobayashi who moves to the final against Yoshio.

Apollo Yoshio vs Ryuhei Sugita -
Sugita was unable to handle the slick moving Yoshio. Yoshio put on a boxing clinic and scored the lone knockdown in the 14th round en-route to a 10-4, 12-2, 10-4 decision.

Final:

Hiroshi Kobayashi vs Apollo Yoshio -
This started out a one sided affair with Yoshio taking the first few rounds and cutting Kobayashi. Kobayashi came out firing trying to end things in the 5th and 6th rounds, dominating in the process. After taking a breather in the 7th and having the cut reopen, Kobayashi came out again firing on all cylinders scoring seemingly at will until the referee ended the fight for the TKO! Kobayashi takes his 4-0-0 (2) record to the World Tournament.

Japan - Featherweights - Fight-Ins

We have 19 fighters vying for the Featherweight berth, so there will be 3 fight-in bouts.

Fight-Ins:

Takao Ikeda vs Shig Fukuyama -
Ikeda came out smoking in the first round scoring at will when suddenly out of nowhere Fukuyama unleashed a wicked combination that floored Ikeda for the count!

Shuzo Yoshida vs Hummer Hamasato -
Yoshida scored 3 knockdowns against the surprising Hamasato who stayed in the fight, building a lead before fading the last 4 rounds. The judges scored the bout 7-5 Yoshida, 6-6 even, 7-6 for the winner Shuzo Yoshida!

Tomio Nakamura vs Yu Shiga -
Good back and forth battle ended when Shiga landed a brutal uppercut flush on the chin of Nakamura late in the 3rd round for the KO!

Japan - Featherweights - Round 1

Round 1:

Takashi Koshimoto vs Shig Fukuyama -
Koshimoto was poetry in motion as he boxed effortlessly against the hapless Fukuyama before stopping him on cuts in the 11th round.

Toshiaki Nishioka vs Yu Shiga -
A dominating performance against the game Shiga as Nishioka scored 6 knockdowns in less than 3 rounds, the final one tolling 10!

Mitsunori Seki vs Shuzo Yoshida -
Seki blew open what had been a close fight by dominating the championship rounds to win going away despite an early knockdown. The judges scored it 10-5, 9-6, 9-3 for the jubilant Seki.

Hiroyuki Enoki vs Nobuhisa Doi -
A nasty cut opened on the left eyelid of Enoki to force things to end early in the 3rd round for the Doi TKO on cuts!

Spider Nemoto vs Sigeyoshi Adachi -
Adachi came out and boxed the perfect 1st round, but walked into a wicked cross that saw him down for the count in the 2nd round for the Nemoto KO win!

Kazuo Takayama vs Kiyoaki Nakanishi -
Good close action bout between 2 boxers that saw Takayama the fresher of the 2 at the end of the fight. I had it 8-6, Andreas Raht had it 7-6 both for Takayama. The judges scored it 9-4, 7-7, 9-5 for Takayama.

Seiji Asakawa vs
Nobuo Chiba -Asakawa and Chiba split the first 4 rounds with Chiba scoring a knockdown, but Asakawa came out fast in the 5th round, scoring 2 knockdowns of his own before the referee decided that Chiba had nothing left and called it a night for the 5th round TKO for Asakawa.

Shozo Saijo vs Zaiki Takemoto -
Saijo threw the heavier leather, but it was a razor like jab that opened then reopened the cut over Takemoto's left eyebrow that ended the fight in the 7th round for the TKO.

Japan - Featherweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Takashi Koshimoto vs Nobuhisa Doi -
Someone forgot to tell Doi that he was a 9-2 underdog as he gave as good as he got through the entire 15 rounds. Both men felt they'd won the fight, I had it 8-7 for the underdog Doi while Rocco Del Sesto had it 9-6 for Koshimoto. The judges scored it 8-7 on all 3 cards for the winner by upset Nobuhisa Doi!

Toshiaki Nishioka vs Seiji Asakawa -
Back and forth battle that saw Asakawa come on strong in the final 3 rounds to take the 7-6, 5-9, 7-6 split decision!

Mitsunori Seki vs Shozo Saijo -
Seki was dominating scoring a pair of knockdowns after suffering a bloodied nose. In the 5th he landed a series of power shots in a row that had Saijo out on his feet when the referee threw himself between the fighters to end things for the 5th round TKO.

Spider Nemoto vs Kazuo Takayama -
Nemoto boxed smartly making Takayama be the aggressor the punishing him when he moved forward. Nemoto scored the lone knockdown in the 15th round as he wins 11-4, 12-3, 12-3.

I just noticed that Monzon was eliminated a few pages back. Wow, that opens up the middleweights considerably.

Japan - Featherweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Semi-Finals:

Mitsunori Seki vs Nobuhisa Doi -
Seki patiently wore Doi down then scored the KO in the 14th to ice the deal. He was up 8-5, 8-5, 8-5 at the time of the stop.

Spider Nemoto vs Seiji Asakawa -
Nemoto boxed well, keeping Asakawa at bay throughout. Asakawa came on strong towards the end of the bout but it was too late for him to get to Nemoto as he ran out of gas.

Final:

Mitsunori Seki vs Spider Nemoto -
This was a brutal battle from pillar to post throughout 15 rounds! Seki scored a pair of knockdowns, Nemoto scored one of his own as the crowd was on their feet through most of the fight. In the 10th round the warriors traded knockdowns in a classic round! It went to the judges who scored it 8-6, 9-5, 8-5 for the winner Mitsunori Seki! Seki advances to the World Tournament after this exciting fight!

There are 18 fighters in this weight class so we'll have 2 fight-in bouts.

Fight-Ins:

Shigeru Sasaki vs Kazuhio Akui -
Sasaki boxed effortlessly using a popping jab and good footwork to dominate Akui throughout the bout. It showed in the judges scorecards as they saw it 12-3, 10-5, 10-3 for Sasaki.

Hideki Takayama vs Bunji Ando -
Ando came the 4-1 underdog and took that to heart as he picked Takayama apart throughout the bout. Ando scored 3 knockdowns in the final 2 rounds as he wins a 10-3, 8-5, 11-3 decision.

Japan - Jr. Featherweights - Round 1

Round 1:

Kozo Ishii vs Bunji Ando -
Ishii came out looking for blood in the 1st round, scoring a knockdown then pouring it on before the referee stepped in to end things at 2:51 in the 1st round!

Royal Kobayashi vs Shigeru Sasaki -
This was a boxer-slugger match-up that saw Kobayashi cutting the ring off well, scoring seemingly at will against the lesser skilled Sasaki. Kobayashi finally got to him in the 8th round with a thunderous hook for the 10 count!

Shigeru Nakazato vs Snappy Asano -
Nakazato cut the ring off well, keeping constant pressure on Asano and wearing him down. He finally landed the big punch, a looping hook that floored Asano for the 10 count in the 9th round!

Hiroaki Yokota vs Masakazu Sugawara -
This was a back and forth affair that was ended prematurely when Yokota suffered a cut over his left eye due to an accidental butt. It went to the score cards and the judges scored it 7-5 Yokota, 6-6, 6-6 for the majority draw.

Kiyoshi Hatanaka vs Manabu Fukushima -
Hatanaka had a huge 1st round, then was knocked down 2 times in the 2nd round by the surprising Fukushima. Hatanaka came back in the 3rd round scoring 4 knockdowns including the KO with 30 seconds left in the round!

Shoji Kimura vs Akihiro Kanai -
This was a boxer-slugger fight that was everything one would want! Kimura danced well through out the fight with Kanai cutting the ring off well at times. Both men fought their hearts out, and one could tell by the response by the audience! Kanai suffered some swelling around his left eye and Kimura kept focusing on it throughout until in the 13th round the referee called time for the ringside doctor to have a look. He deemed the eye too damaged for the fight to continue handing Kimura a hard fought TKO win in the 13th! He was up 8-4, 7-5, 8-4 through the 12th round.

Yasuo Kunimi vs Yoshikane Nakajima -
Low scoring affair as both men were content to dance and take the occasional pot shot. In the end Kunimi mounted more of an offense and it showed on the judges scorecards. They had it 7-6, 9-5, 9-4 for Kunimi.

Osamu Sato vs Junichi Watanabe -
An absolutely brutal affair that saw Sato score 5 knockdowns early then have Watanabe storm back with a pair of his own. Sato scored a 6th, then in the fatal 14th Watanabe scored 3 knockdowns, the final one for the late KO! There were 11 knockdowns between these 2 warriors! Watanabe had a narrow 6-5, 6-5, 6-6 lead through 13 rounds.

Japan - Jr. Featherweights - Round 1 Rematch

Round 1 Rematch:

Hiroaki Yokota vs Masakazu Sugawara -
Another close fight that actually had some good action at times saw both boxers using the ring well throughout. It went to the judges yet again (I had it 10-5 Sugawara and our Ringside Expert Markus Heinsohn had it 7-7 for Sugawara.) The judges scored it 9-5, 7-5, 9-6 for the underdog Sugawara!

Japan - Jr. Featherweights - Quarter Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Kozo Ishii vs Masakazu Sugawara -
Ishii scored knockdowns in the 1st and 10th rounds with the final one being for the KO as he dominated Sugawara.

Royal Kobayashi vs Junichi Watanabe -
Watanabe went down in the 1st round of this back and forth slug fest! He came roaring back with knockdowns in the 4th and 5th rounds before the referee stepped in (most felt too soon) to end the bout for a Watanabe upset TKO in the 5th!

Shigeru Nakazato vs Kiyoshi Hatanaka -
Nakazato and Hatanaka stayed in ring center through most of this bout with Nakazato building up a 4 round lead when Hatanaka unleashed a vicious combination late in the 5th that put Nakazato out for the count!

Shoji Kimura vs Yasuo Kunimi -
Kimura scored a pair of knockdowns late in answer to an earlier knockdown by Kunimi as he wins handily 10-5, 11-4, 10-5.

Japan - Jr. Featherweights - Semi-Finals & Final

Kiyoshi Hatanaka vs Shoji Kimura - Kimura built up an early lead but was unable to withstand the hard charging Hatanaka, going down in the 9th round then fading from there. The judges scored the bout 8-6, 10-4, 10-4 for Hatanaka.

Final:

Kiyoshi Hatanaka vs Junichi Watanabe - Good action bout that saw a lot of back and forth action before Hatanaka scored a pair of knockdowns in the 14th enroute to a 14th round TKO. Hatanaka goes into the World Tournament with a 4-0-0 (4) record.

Japan - Bantamweights - Fight-Ins

We have 20 fighters in the Bantamweight class, so will have 4 fight-in bouts.

Fight-Ins:

Katsuo Saito vs Lobster Hayashida - Brutal fight that saw both men cut badly as Saito built up a solid lead. In the 8th the cut on Hayashida's nose opened up so badly that there was little choice but to end the fight for the TKO for Saito.

Takao Sakurai vs Joe Araki - Dull fight that saw ARaki the reluctant agressor as Sakurai danced his way through 15 rounds of sleeping. Despite losing a point in the 15th, Sakurai won the fight 8-4, 8-5, 8-5 to move on.

Hurricane Teru vs Nobuaki Naka - These two fighters stayted at ring center throughout most of the bout with Naka going down in the 2nd and again in the 4th round for the KO by Teru!

Kosei Anan vs Yasu Hara - Decent back and forth action between Anan and Hara that saw Anan take the final 2 rounds to seal the 8-6, 6-7, 7-6 split decision over Hara.

Japan - Bantamweights - Round 1

Round 1:

Fighting Harada vs Kosei Anan - Harada dominated against the game Anan who fought back hard in the first few rounds to no avail. Harada administered a horiffic beating in the 7th and 8th rounds before the referee finally stepped in to stop the bout for the 8th round TKO for Harada!

Eijiro Murata vs Katsuo Saito - Both men suffered bad gashes over the right eye in this one, but it was Saito's that reopened first to the point of ending things in the 8th for the Murata TKO.

Katsuhige Kawashima vs Takao Sakurai - Sakurai showed a lot of courage, countering with viscious shots but didn't have the ability to stay out of the way of the stronger Kawashima. Kawashima built up a huge lead before scoring the TKO on referee's decision in the 13th round of this sceduled 15 rounder.

Hozumi Hasegawa vs Hurricane Teru - Hasegawa danced the night away, keeping the plodding Teru at bay through most of this very close fight. In the end, the less than stellar performance by Hasegawa kept Teru in the fight based on his being the aggressor throughout the bout and the judges scored it 8-6, 8-6, 8-5 for Hasegawa in a fight he should have handily won.

Joichiro Tatsuyoshi vs Ushiwakamaru Harada - Tatsuyoshi and Harada fought toe to toe throughout most of this bout but it was Harada's swollen left eye that ended the fight in the 11th for the Tatsuyoshi TKO.

Hideki Todaka vs Katsutoshi Aoki - Aoki spent 9 rounds picking Todaka apart, cutting him badly in the 6th then reopening it every round until the doctor ended it in the 9th for the TKO.

Masaki Kawabata vs Daisuke Maruyama - A lot of close rounds in this one made it difficult to score. Maruyama scored knockdowns in the final 2 rounds to take it in my eyes 8-6 while my counterpart Will Schubert had it 7-6 for Kawabata. The judges scored it 7-5 Maruyama, 7-6 Kawabata and 8-5 for the winner Maruyama!

Satoshi Shingaki vs Tetsuya Yamagami - Someone forgot to tell Yamagami that he was a 2-1 favorite to win this as Shingaki dominated right up to the point that he scored the KO at the end of the 8th round.
