The U.K. Boxing Group has made a large, undisclosed offer to buy out the contract of "The Pride of Wales" Joe Calzaghe, from his current management team. Joe has shown interest in changing handlers because it would allow his father to be in complete control of training responsibilities, whereas he splits duties right now and there is a bit of friction in camp. Calzaghe, would join fellow Brit, Lloyd Honeyghan, in the U.K. Boxing Groups stable. Calzaghe and Honeyghan just squared off in the National Championships, with Calzaghe winning the title. Stay tuned for further information as it unfolds.

The Villebillie Boxing Gym is currently in negotiations with another amateur prospect from the CABO area. We first reported that Felix "Tito" Trinidad was going to enter his nation's National Tournament, but he decided he needed some more fine tuning in the amateur's before turning pro. Our sources have told us that there is another prospect from the same country that Villebillie is heavily pursuing but that this boxer is also not interested in turning pro right away. It looks like the Villebillie Boxing Gym is trying to put a stranglehold on all the CABO-area prospects, stay tuned for further updates.

I am going to set the limit at 3 fighters for right now until I can do a better job of keeping up with my schedule. U.K. Boxing Group is hoping that we can add Joe to our stable of fighters. We were very impressed with his performance against Lloyd in the U.K. National Championships and U.K. Boxing Group is confident that this buyout will go as planned.

Here at Muckboys Promotions, We're hoping that Rampage's prior commitment to fight Bobby Czyz does not prevent him from competing in the USA national tournament. While 5 possible fights in March might seem to be alot to some, Rampage's month long break has him feeling energized and ready to attempt it. However, if the Czyz does interfere with the tournament we are willing to cancel the fight, pay Czyz his purse for wasting his time, and take part in the tournament instead.

Jeff Shelburg, USA, 2-0-0 (2) vs. Jose Beltran, USA, 0-4-0

Shelburg starts out the 1st by pounding away at the soft midsection of Beltran. He continues to blast away with both hands and easily takes the 2nd round, 21-5. Beltran is hurt by a hard hook in the 3rd but the round ends before Shelburg can follow up. There is a good deal of swelling below the left eye of Beltran. Beltran comes alive and out punches Shelburg, 10-6, in the 4th. Beltran is down three times in the 5th, twice from body shots and once from a jolting uppercut. Referee Caiz Jr., steps in and finally stops the fight at the 2:23 mark.

Winner: Shelburg
Result: (TKO5)
Cards: 39-37, on all three cards in favor of Shelburg.
Punch stats: 48.4% - 60% Beltran

** This is a case where the stats don’t always tell the whole story. Beltran may have had the better accuracy percentage but landed 90 of 150 punches compared to 151-312 for Shelburg. Shelburg wasn’t as accurate but did more work and had more power punches landed.

Enzo Calzaghe will be in full control of his son's training again as part of the final sticking point to the contract signed by Joe Calzaghe and the U.K. Boxing Group. Calzaghe is very happy to join the boxing stable of the U.K. Boxing Group and wants to bring them their first world title.

Russia's, Ivan Drago has pulled out of his scheduled title fight against WBO Champion, Joe Louis. Drago received a pretty sizeable cut around his eye during a recent sparring session. Another Russian fighter, Sergei Kobozev, will be the replacement. Kobozev enters the fight with a 18-2-0 (15) record and is currently ranked #33 in the world and #4 in the EBU.

WBO Title Fight

[Champion] Joe Louis, USA, 19-1-0 (18) vs. [30/33] Sergei Kobozev, Russia, 18-2-0 (15)

Kobozev comes in as a huge underdog in this fight but he must not of heard because he is exchanging blows with the champ and has Louis hurt in the 2nd. Both men are obviously not expecting this fight to go the distance since each boxer is not holding anything back. Round 2 ends in a 11-11 score. Round 3, 14-14. The champ starts to take control of this fight, 14-2, in the 4th, 26-4, in the 5th, and opens up a cut on the brow of Kobozev’s left eye. Kobozev needs to really press the fight as we enter the 8th. He has a lot of swelling under the right eye and his cut is pretty bad inside of the left eyebrow. Kobozev responds with a good 10th, 15-8, even though he looks absolutely fatigued. Louis should really be smart and stay away from his opponent for these last two rounds. The champ took 2 out of the last 3 rounds with ease but was hurt in each round. Kobozev is tired and a bloody mess, but he still has that knockout ability and probably knows that he needs a stoppage to win. Kobozev has made a name for himself here in his first world title opportunity. He enters the 15th round and lands a big hook. Louis responds and the referee steps in with only :55 seconds remaining in the fight and stops it to the dismay of Kobozev’s corner. Joe Louis retains his WBO belt with his 7th successful title defense.

WBA Title Fight

[Champion] Chuck “No Doubt” Norton, USA, 25-0-0 (24) vs. [5/9] Teofilo Stevenson, Cuba, 21-4-0 (20)

Norton/Stevenson II. Norton previously defeated Stevenson by (TKO3) in April 1953. Stevenson barely makes it out of the 1st round, taking a huge amount of punishment, 27-0. But comes back and has a nice 2nd, 13-9, landing some stiff jabs to keep Norton on the outside. The 3rd is another big round for the champ, 20-3, as he is able to get inside of Stevenson’s punches to land some hard blows. A wild overhand right lands and sends Norton down to the canvas at the 1:27 mark of the 4th round! Norton is down for the 2nd time with :31 seconds left in the round from a huge right hook. The champ is in bad shape but is able to finish the round. What a change of momentum! Let’s see if Stevenson can follow up and end the fight in the 5th. Norton explodes out of his corner to begin the 5th. It looks as if he is angry at what occurred in the last round and has recovered. Norton lands punch after punch and Stevenson goes down with :29 seconds left in the 5th! Stevenson cannot get up after taking the punishment, 38-2, in the 5th as Norton gets off the deck twice, to come from behind and retain his WBA title with a knockout. What a dramatic turn of events. Stevenson really had a great chance to win the fight and the title especially here at the Cristal Arena in Cuba. Not finishing the fight in the 4th round may haunt Stevenson for the rest of his life if he is unable to win a world title. We will definitely be interested in seeing the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
