The Indians seem to be moving from truly rebuilding team (ie - bottom of the pack), to team on the upswing (ie - middle of the pack). We definitely don't have the players to make a run for the title yet, so the rest of this season and next year will be key in determining if we're going to get over the hump and become a playoff contender.

These three teams are combining to overwhelm the rest of the league. Three teams - Chicago, St. Louis and Washington - all are winning less than 40% of their games. The Senators are on pace to set a new major league record for losses. The 1945 Indians set the current AL record with 101 losses, but the ML record is held by the 1928 Cubs who lost 103. Only 4 times in history have teams lost 100 games. With the two teams mentioned above, the other 100-loss teams are the 1915 Braves (102) and the 1931 Indians (100). The 1953 Senators are currently on pace to drop 108. The Browns and White Sox are not much better. St. Louis is on pace to lose 100 and the White Sox are en route to losing 93, which for them would break a 43-year-old franchise record. Meanwhile, the Indians seem to be putting their much-lauded talent together with a stong 4th place performance thus far.

The Pirates went 16-10 but actually lost ground to the Cubs and Cardinals. Chicago has moved into 2nd place with a 20-6 performance, while St. Louis went 17-10. The Giants continue to stump the so-called experts. Never did anyone expect them to be in last place at the season's halfway point. After winning back-to-back pennants, they are now in danger of losing 97, which would tie a franchise worst set in 1929.

It was very close for sure. Gotta love Perly taking over in the AL HR race especially with Luther going down with a shoulder injury and Degal slacking off his blistering start.

Just in case anyone didn't notice you guys should take a look at the Boston vs Cleveland box score on June 18 because Boston pitchers Cort Nagel, Billy Hyberg, and Emilio Lobos combined to toss a near perfect game it it wasn't for Nagel's error. Pretty amazing.

Even more amazing:

Nagel was lifted for a pinch hitter in the Top of the 9th after throwing just 77 pitchers.

He got lifted *right after* Butch Lutske singled in two runs to break up a scoreless tie and make it 2-0 Red Sox.

Three outs away from a no hitter.

Up 2-0.

Is this just not insane?

It's one of those things in OOTP where they give you a fair amount of ability to set managerial tendencies... but not enough to keep the AI Manager from being an idiot from time to time.

There should be the ability to set a high or lower setting for managers who like to go for things like that (such as shutouts or even complete games), even if someone is getting tired. I'm thinking of Tommy Lasorda.

Whereas others will take a look at a 6-0 lead at the end of 6 innings and start thinking about resting the starter.

The NL took a 3-0 lead with a run in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th, thanks to a collection of singles off White Sox pitcher Adam Sardina. The AL came back to tie the score in the 6th off 2 singles, 2 walks a wild pitch and a sac fly - all against Cubs pitcher Denny Evers.

The NL quickly jumped on Yankees pitcher Maury Baum with a single and 2-run homerun by Cardinals SS Mike Fellner in the top of the 7th. Detroit reliever Sam Cole entered the game and promptly gave up a single, a walk, a sac bunt, an intentional walk, an RBI walk and a RBI ground out. That gave the NL a 7-3 lead.

A solo HR by Detroit's Matt Perly drew the score to 7-4 in the bottom of the 8th. Then in the bottom of the 9th, Red Legs reliever Doug McMurray walked A's CF Peaches Badeau and light-hitting A's shortstop Hans Habermehl hit a 2-run homer to get the AL within a run of the lead. Another Athletic, LF Matt Praks drew a walk. Then Yankees 1B Arnie Stewart popped up and with the winning run at the plate, yet another A's player, catcher Hershel Lee, grounded into a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.
