Ron Jones
Signed by the Phillies as an undrafted free agent after the 1984 season, Ron Jones worked his way through the system, and got the call to the big leagues in 1988. He wasted little time in making an impression, hitting a home run off the Dodgers' Tim Belcher in his second at-bat. Jones would make the most of his '88 callup, hitting .290 with eight homers and 26 RBI in 33 games. The first dozen games of the 1989 season gave no reason to feel differently, as Jones was again hitting .290 with a couple longballs to boot. Then, disaster struck.
Jones made a nice running catch of a deep drive off the bat of Dave Magadan, crashing awkwardly into the then-unpadded right field wall. Jones crumpled down to the warning track, clutching his right knee. The result was a torn patella tendon, ending his season. He made it back to the big leagues in May of 1990. The layoff didn't appear to affect Jones's stroke a whole lot over his first 24 games, as he was hitting .276 with three home runs. Once again, disaster would strike. In June 1990, Jones charged in to field a blooper off the bat of Franklin Stubbs. Realizing he would have to play the ball on a hop, Jones slammed on the brakes. This time, his left foot caught in the unforgiving Vet turf, and his knee buckled, shredding the left patella tendon. It didn't take long to realize that the promising career of Ron Jones was basically over. After his playing career, Jones spent time coaching youth teams in the Houston area. He was an instructor at the Big League Baseball Academy in Houston, run by his former Phillies teammate Charlie Hayes. Sadly, Ron Jones died of a cerebral hemorrhage on June 4, 2006. He was a week shy of his 42nd birthday. - drunkphilsfans.com Hope this will work for ya. Closing his mouth gave hime a bit of a smirk but the smiling him looks like the pic...

Nick Goulish
Nick Goulish was Class of '36 from Punxsutawney High School. On his 1945 American Baseball Bureau questionnaire, he listed his nicknames as "Slim" and "Slugger" but the high school nickname of "Gigolo" was conspicuously absent.
Thanks to cinemaodyssey for the reference photo. I tried to hew to that after I made the face off the high school photo. Here's the whole HS pic to tell you more about Nick (and to save me some typing)...

My latest update is available
![]() Two links in my signature: Everything if you haven't the previous ones and only the new updates if you already have 1871 / 1929. As usual if something isn't there it could be for three reasons: no picture available for the player, LansdowneSt already did him in his FG pack or the current FG in the universal pack was fine.

Jacke Davis
Jacke Davis broke camp with the Phillies in 1962 as a pinch-hitter and backup outfielder, spending time at all three outfield positions with the team. Davis got off to a pretty hot start, but he couldn’t crack the starting lineup that featured Ted Savage, Tony Gonzalez and Johnny Callison in the outfield. In 48 games with the Phillies, Davis slashed .213/.253/.280, with 16 hits that included 1 triple and 1 home run. He drove in 6 runs and scored 9 times. He committed a couple of errors in the outfield for a .926 fielding percentage across the three positions. He never made it back to the majors.
The next couple of years, he was traded to various minor league teams. All that movement led to a rare distinction. Buffalo played Atlanta to a 3-3 tie on July 17, when the game was called in the sixth inning because of curfew. Davis was 1-for-2 for Buffalo. By the time the game resumed on August 26, Davis had been traded to the Crackers and was hitless in 2 at-bats for his new team. Thus, Davis can lay claim to playing on both sides of a minor-league game. Atlanta won 8-6 in 12 innings, but no matter which team came out ahead, Davis would have been on the winning side. For the curious, he was "Jackie" until grade school when some girls named "Jackie" appeared in his class. So, he kept the pronunciations and the kid decided, he'd now spell his name without the "i". - ripbaseball.com Hope this fg will do. I removed the watermark and shut the mouth of the baseball birthdays photo.

Matt Koperniak
It was a week of firsts for Matt Koperniak and for the nation of Great Britain. For the Hoosac Valley graduate, this month marked the first time he traveled to Europe since he was too young to remember the continent, and on Tuesday, he was "ghosted" for the first time as a professional baseball player. For the British people, its baseball team was believed to be the first national squad to sing "God Save the King" at a competition. And, most importantly, Koperniak helped the land of his birth qualify for its first appearance in the World Baseball Classic. Koperniak, 24, played a big role in that last first, scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning of Tuesday's come-from-behind win over Spain at the WBC qualifier in Regensburg, Germany. - iBerkshires.com
From his WBC photo, here he is...

Trent Baker
Angelo State University pitcher Trent Baker was selected in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday by the St. Louis Cardinals. Baker is the winningest pitcher in ASU history with a 32-7 record in four years at the school. He compiled a career ERA of 2.72.
The Georgetown native helped lead the Rams to the NCAA Division II College World Series, where they lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Wingate. "We are very proud of Trent," ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. "He has worked so hard over his career, and we can't wait to watch his baseball journey continue." Baker racked up 299 career strikeouts, which set a new program and conference record. Listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Baker is the 12th ASU player to be drafted since the program began in 2005. He's the second-highest drafted player behind Blake Bass, who was taken in the eighth round of the 2015 draft by the Texas Rangers. Baker's draft slot — as the 271st player selected — has an estimated pick value of $153,000, according to MLB.com. He was named the Pitcher of the Year last season in the South Central Region and Lone Star Conference. He had a 13-1 record on the mound with a 2.11 ERA. He struck out 121 batters in 106.2 innings, while issuing only 18 walks. Opponents had a .225 batting average against him. - gosanangelo.com
