EDIT: I am in no way promoting the use of chewing tobacco, or for that matter, the idea that someone should actually create these players in TWB.

Oh, was getting Ben from the Cubs also a joke? Sure seemed like it based on his production.

> 3 more Allens have announced their
> intention to follow in family footsteps > and join major league baseball, and > It is beleived they were born in February > of 1935. Great. They're all 18, so they'll hit the draft next year as 19 year olds. There is overkill: 01/01/1926 - Allen, Cognac (1944 #2-24) 07/04/1926 - Allen Jr., Bourbon (1944 #1-6) 01/01/1930 - Allen, J.D. "Whiskey III" (1948 #1-9) 05/19/1931 - Allen, Scotch (1949 #1-6) 02/12/1932 - Allen, Gin (1950 #1-12) 02/14/1932 - Allen, Champagne (1950 #1-14) 07/04/1934 - Allen, Vodka (1952 #1-5) 07/04/1935 - Allen, Rye (1953 #1-11) Those are all currently in the game. Add in three more born in 1935 and it's *eight* born between 1931-35, 11 in a decade, and lord knows how many more are already in the hopper that he's forgotten about that are popping up in the next few years. The humor value is declining of it. And the "storyline" of the family is less interesting as more get tossed in. The contrast of Bourbon and Whiskey was always a great storyline, and now the highs of Bourbon Jr. and the tough development of Whiskey Jr. is a nice follow up on their fathers. But the rest are getting to be a cluster****. I mean what is to draw us into caring about the progress of Cognac? They're just getting to be names tossed out, drafted, and then moved onto the next guy. Maybe make a test of these triplets - make them all 4th round pick "quality" and see if even one of them can develop into a big leauger. Last edited by jdw; 03-12-2005 at 05:06 PM. |

I know I might not have a leg to stand on because I have the 2nd most ancestors, but wasn't there a 3 per surname per generation rule? And the alcohol theme is getting old.

I thought it was 5 per generation.
5 limit should be enforced I think... After the next draft I will have 5 in TWB. I plan on adding alot of members to the Dietrich clan but I plan on making the children 20-23 years apart from the parents. On another note. Did creed kill the site again? It won't work for me. |

> I thought it was 5 per generation.
"Limit 3 people per last name per generation..." -Matt in the sign up list > 5 limit should be enforced I think... Okay, so we'll take you at your word as a Law & Order enforcer of the rules... > After the next draft I will have 5 in TWB. You have two Dietrich's in the game right now. I don't know if you have any other's playing. If you were adding three more Dietrich's next year, pick one and ask Matt to delete the other two. That is if you believe "limit should be enforced". ![]() Matt hasn't always enforced it. There are so many ancestors in the game (thanks in part to Mets and Creed :P ), that it's hard to track it. It's a bit of an honor system as much as anything. scprideandms also gets a little slack since he had the original "Ancestor" in the game - Whiskey Allen. That said, the three new Allen's should be moved to joining the game in 1965 *at the earliest*. ?Having already been allowed six to added since the game went live, while also having a pair of Allen's added just two year *before* the live era, already has made the rule look silly enough. While I tend to say "stick to the rules", my earlier post was more about scprideandms pretty much making what was an interesting family storyline turn into something uninteresting. Bourbon Jr. is a great pitcher. Whiskey III is a compelling story on whether he can turn it around. But there are so many Allens running around that even ones with the better storylines just don't get the interest and attention that they should. "Another Allen... ho-hum." I think at times some of Mets ancestors have fallen into that in the past few years. Whereas earlier, Campbell, Professor and all the way to Schnozz all got interesting storylines. With the Commander, we're literally "making **** up" to give him a storyline. He'd pretty much be a zero if I hadn't made the suggestion of his quest for the minor league HR title. ![]() BTW, Mets - I'd focus that Defense allocation on Contact this year - the drop in BA last season meant there were less "hits" to turn into HR's. Maybe: 8 Contact 6 Power 6 Strike Zone 0 Defense His power is maxed, and even juiced over in Gap. No need to overwork that again. The 6 is more "maintain". The Eye could use a little boast. He doesn't walk enough where it hurts his HRs, but it does look like having a decent eye does help make him a better hitter. But that Contact is something you probably over the next few years want to see if you can juice to 4. He's in this for the long haul, so it's more that you want to keep him humming along at his maxes rather than trashing any skill he has. That you don't care about his defense and can constantly take that 5 and allocate it elsewhere give you plenty to work with. ![]() I think if you can get his BA up into the .280-.300 range consistently, with the 5 power and not having bad strike zone control (5/6 Eye/Avoid K is not bad at all for an A ball player), he's going to be banging 30+ HR. Yes, scprideandms gets a little slack from me, in part because he was the 1st, and the 1st to regularly follow the thread. The rule is 3 per generation per last name. You you could have 30 ancestors in a generation as long as every 3 had different last names (although I don't encourage that many at once). Pete's guys have many different last names, so no biggie. Creed's too. I enjoy the Allen's, but agree that perhaps we should postpose them for another 10 years or so???
