Why is Chavez out? He's not hurt, is he?

Did Macha really take out the best player on the team when it's a 5-run lead and he's due up 3rd in the inning? Is he seriously RESTING Chavez 10 days into the season?

I'm so close to advocating random acts of violence against this dope.

Edit: I had Chavez in Beat the Streak today. This upsets me greatly. He could've used one more at bat!

Chavez comes out but Thomas, who really doesn't need to "get at bats" if the game has been conceded, continues to play. I just don't get Macha.

On a somewhat high note, my co-worker just walked by and saw my ESPN The Magazine with Huston Street on the cover and said, "Ooooh, that guy's cute!"

Why is Nick Punto sliding into first and then arguing when his team is up by six runs in the bottom of the 8th?

Whatever. I was thankful that Chavez was out because he is such a great player. I was saying YES! because he could easily turn around a game with the swing of a bat.

non-dola,

He was actually safe, but still. Sliding into first is dumb to begin with.

I understand that, but it sure feels like gloating and taunting when you're doing it in this thread and not the Twins thread.

It's Punto's style. What bothered me was them arguing with the pitcher hurt next to them.

I didn't notice he got hurt. Of course I'm watching without sound.

Well, that's the ballgame, with Minnesota's own Dan Johnson striking out to end it and he's still hitless.

Congrats on climbing up to 4-5. A's are now close to the same at 5-5.

Are the A's going with a 12 man staff this year? I know the M's did that last year and it always seemed like there was someone who hadn't pitched in a week. It makes some sense with the M's because guys like Meche and Pineiro pitch every 5 days, but doesn't make much for the A's who have 4, and maybe 5 solid pitchers

No, they kept Brad Halsey as the 12th pitcher and sent Kielty down to AAA for 2 reasons.

1. It was supposed to rain out at least one game the first series of the season, so a doubleheader would have meant an extra SP was needed.

2. Kielty had an option left and he wasn't 100% from his oblique strain.

Injury updates:

Witasick sprained his ankle on the play at first with Punto late in the game.

"I can probably say he is not going to be available for quite a while," Macha said.
Chavez tweaked his hammy but was only taken out as a precaution. He should be ready for tomorrow's game.

I was hoping he'd get a hit in the series. He went to my high school!! It was great to see how well he did last year.

If someone told me that the Twins would sweep, I'd have easily taken them up on a bet.

Now I feel bad for being happy when Chavez came out. I thought he was just coming out to rest. My bad!

I don't feel bad for calling Macha all kinds of names. There's still plenty of reason to dislike him.

Of course, this loss is not his fault. A's just got beat today. I hope the weekend is a little nicer to the boys.

Sorry that your team got swept, Kelly (there should be a greeting card for that). You deserve a better manager.
