It is obvious, but it seems as though it gets lost a lot of times. I've taken owners by apllication, from the online league forum, by recomendation and hand picked them and have found no difference in the amount of turnover that any of these groups produce. So long as the league is strong and keeps people interested, they won't leave. If you slip as a commish and allow the league to slip, people will start leaving. It's really pretty simple.

I definitely agree with this. You need a core and that core should be a reliable group of people that you know well and who will weather the early bumps inherent in starting any league. As long as you have a solid group of owners to work around, replacing the fringe owners won't be devastating to the league. Every league is going to have turnover. There's plenty of turnover in the Majors. But there are also the Steinbrenners (commishes, who's your Steinbrenner?) who won't die if you shoot them with a silver bullet.
