Comments: Gene is another of our cornerstone players. In fact, even more-so than Lott, our future may
ride on Spike's ability to improve. He has, slowly and steadily over his 3 big-league seasons. Hopefully,
that power will develop and then the GE league will have a monster to deal with. The Big Aussie can also
play 2B, something that may come in handy as Moncayo and Foland get older. Spike has career highs again
this season, and with even this rate of improvement, he could be scary in 2-3 seasons.

Comments: Geoff will be getting the callup to AA next season, he's probably developed as much as single-A
will let him. He could be a nice piece of the bench puzzle down the line.

Comments: The unofficial "King of AAA" just doesn't have "it". He's ok, but I'll never rely on him,
and he is old, so why? I could see possibly giving him a bench spot next season, but it isn't likely.
81 AAA HR's in 2 seasons is impressive though. The .199 average this season, isn't.

Comments: David doesn't have much of a future, but I'm holding onto him. With Jasmin headed to AA ball
next year, we'll keep David around until we happen upon another 3B to give A-ball playing time to.

Sim Recap

9/11 - Nevada at Texas, 4-1 WIN - 4 in a row for your Nevada Dragons! Cyril Foland chipped in a 4th
inning homer (15) but it was backup 2B Albert Estrada's big 2-run 6th inning single which gave us a 4-1
lead. Ramon Quintana earned his first win, going 7 strong, allowing just 1 run (not earned), though
he walked 6. Trottier came on in the 9th, K'd 2 and picked up save number 32.

9/12 - Nevada at Texas, 6-2 WIN - Boxscore didn't upload, but Jason Grolsch, starting for the injured
JOse Leonos picked up the win after going 7 innings allowing just 2 ER. Herman Trottier pitched
an inning and two-thirds for save #33 while DiBenedetto added 2 hits and his 20th Homer.

9/13 - Colorado at Nevada, 4-1 WIN - Let's make it a 6-pack as we defeat the top-shelf Rams. A big 3-run
bottom of the 8th rally, keyed by several singles got us the W. DiBenedetto drove in 2 runs, and Miggy
Cordova went 8 allowing just 1 run to go to 10-4. Trottier was too tired to come out for the save.

9/14 - Colorado at Nevada, 5-3 Loss - The good times stop as the Rams hit 2 9th inning homers to pad
a 3-1 lead. We did mount a 9th inning rally after a 1-out RBI Triple by Hagberg, Halpern drove him in.
At 5-3, Salazar K'd then pinch hitter Thiessen walked putting the tying run on base. Moncayo couldn't
make the magic happen as he grounded out to end the game. Halpern had 3 hits and 2 ribbies, while
Mike Doctor and Moncayo pitched in 2 hits. Gene Foxworth took the loss (4-6) but Stoops allowing 2
9th inning runs killed us

9/15 - Washington at Nevada, 7-2 Loss - 14 hits by Washington's meager offense, while we didn't manage
much. Lott (27) and DiBenedetto (21) went yard. Kirby Rudolph allowed 5 runs and 9 hits in 5 innings
to fall to 8-11. Very disappointing.

9/16 - Washington at Nevada, 10-3 WIN - Here come the big sticks as we explode for 10. Quintana went the
distance for his 2nd win on the sim (and season) while we got a 2-run HR from Moncayo (30), a solo shot
from DiBenedetto (22) and a 3-run dagger from Foland (16). Moncayo also added a double and 3 walks, while
Byron Thiessen of all people added 2 hits and 2 runs.

9/17 - Oregon at Nevada, 7-2 Loss in 15 - Heartbreaker here as the Owls break out a 5-run 15th that we
couldn't answer. We even managed 6 baserunners in innings 10-12 but no win for us. Lott led the way
with 3 hits, while Thiessen and Spike Halpern had 2 hits. Moses Tamez had the breakdown, allowing all
5 runs. Leonos, the starter allowed 1 ER in 6 innings. Stier, Trottier, Hollenbeck and Stoops combined
for 7.1 innings allowing just 1 run.

9/18 - Oregon at Nevada, 5-2 Loss - Another tough pill to swallow. DiBenedetto hit yet another HR (2-run,
#23) in the 1st, but that was all we could manage. Halpern had 2 hits and we had 4 other doubles, but
no more runs. Cordova allowed 5 ER in 7.1 to fall to 10-5.

9/19 - Oregon at Nevada, 6-2 Win - Back on the right track with a big win. Festa hit his 13th HR, and
DiBenedetto AGAIN went yard (#24, 5th of the sim) while Moncayo added 2 hits and we got 2 RBI's from
Foland. Foxworth went 7 innings to go to 5-6 and drops his ERA under 4.00.

STANDINGS
Code:

Utah 89 60 .597 - 6-4

California 63 87 .420 26.5 5-5
Washington 51 99 .340 38.5 4-6
Going down to the wire, we need to end 9-4 for .500 now after the 5-4 sim (which I predicted). Should
be interesting between Utah and Colorado (though how are they even, isn't Colorado 1 game back? Has
OOTP lost it?)

DiBenedetto had a fantastic sim for us, knocking 5 HRs and many multi-hit games. His season is actually
looking pretty solid so far. Festa had a down sim, and Doctor is just flailing at this point. 13 more
games for Salazar to prove he is even backup worthy. It's not looking likely.

Looks like guys have settled in a bit, Cordova has pitched well, as has Foxworthy of late. Quintana has
even done an admirable job. If I had to do it now, next years rotation would be Herron/Leonos/Cordova/
Foxworthy/??someone new?? (maybe Quintana)

Reliever-wise, I'm ok. Trottier is getting up in age, but Tamez has been solid minus his blowup this sim.
The rest seem to be a batch of guys who will be in the 3.50-4.50 ERA range.

Batting AVG: .240 (12th)
Homeruns: 136 (6th)
Walks: 457 (1st)
Stolen Bases: 116 (11th)
Runs Scored: 644 (6th)

Pitching ERA: 3.85 (21st)
Opponents AVG: .257 (21st)
HRs Allowed: 107 (8th)
Walks Allowed: 458 (21st)
Runs Allowed: 650 (21st)

Still getting outscored big time, but the O is doing it's job. It's a playoff-caliber offense, but a
basement quality pitching staff. I'm sure if I delved deeper, I'd find a basement level fielding team
too. Actually, I just checked. Most errors in the league, 140, though 3rd most DP's. Fielding % of
.976 is 23rd out of 24 (though front running NY is last).

SCHEDULE
9/21 - Nevada @ Utah -- Nevada leads series 8-7
9/22 - Nevada @ Utah
9/23 - Nevada @ Utah
9/24 - Nevada @ Oregon -- Nevada leads series 9-6
9/25 - Nevada @ Oregon
9/26 - Nevada @ Oregon
9/27 - California @ Nevada -- Nevada leads series 9-6
9/28 - California @ Nevada
9/29 - California @ Nevada
9/30 - Washington @ Nevada -- Nevada leads series 9-5
10/1 - Washington @ NEvada

Not a bad schedule really. 3 in Utah will be tough, but I'm hoping we can get 1 of those 3. The remainder
are against teams that are below us in the standings, and who we've fared well against. Not sure
exactly how many days Chappy is simming, but if it is all 11, I think 7-4 is feasible.

Comments: Needless to say, I was pretty happy when I acquired DiBenedetto. I did give up my best prospect
in the deal, but DiBen should be able to carry us for a few years. A 5-time all-star, Clarence is the
whole package, though his speed numbers have dipped this season.

Comments: A former standout of the franchise has fallen on hard times this season, just not producing.
He's down across the board, and already taken hits (early really, he's only 34 now). It is unlikely
Doctor will help much down the line, at best I'll give him 1 season off the bench.

Comments: Another fallen soldier. Garza was THE MAN in Nevada from the moment he was picked as the best
of the 2000+ man draft in 2000. A star from the get-go he has put together some amazing seasons, though
it is sad to see his 12th will be his final season (he has let management know he won't be coming back).
Garza was the leader of the pack, and we have extended to him a job within the organization for when
he hangs 'em up.

Comments: Fermin is another farmhand whose minor league success turned into big league failure. Once
a 24-year old in AAA, he got stuck in AA and while he performed the old management never moved him up.
When he finally got his shot. he didn't fare well, striking out in almost 25% of his at-bats.

Sim Recap 9/21-9/30

9/21 - Nevada at Utah - 6-5 Loss. Tough one here as Utah gets the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.
We had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the 6th too. DiBen continued the hot streak with another
homer, his 25th. Spike Halpern added 3 ribbies while Foland and Salazar nabbed 2 hits each. All 6 Utah
runs were unearned (and 4 of our 5). Ugly game. Rudolph went 5.2 with 2 BB and 5 unearned runs. Tamez
took the loss, and is now 4-4

9/22 - Nevada at Utah - 12-2 Win. Boo-yah! Big day for us with 13 hits and TEN walks (led by 4 from
Lott). Thiessen entered the game in the 7th and ended up 2-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Foland knocked 3
hits while Moncayo, Halpern and Lott drove in 2 each. Quintana grabbed the win, his 3rd in a row and
the pen pitched 3 scoreless to ice it.

9/23 - Nevada at Utah - 5-4 Win. Check us out taking the series from the division champs! Albert Estrada
singled in Spike Halpern with the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th. DiBen again led the charge going
4 for 4 with a double and a homer, 2 runs and 3 RBI. Thiessen grabbed another 2 hits. Leonos was rocked
for 4 ER in 5.1 innings, but Stoops pitched 2 scoreless for the win while Trottier notched save number
34.

9/24 - Nevada at Oregon - 4-3 Loss. Ouch. Trottier allowed the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th.
That's 8 losses for him. Ick. DiBen AGAIN had 3 hits. He's up to .298 with 26 HR and 93 RBIs. Lott drove
home the other 2 runs and is at 92 RBIs, 2nd to DiBen. Cordova got no decision after allowing 3 runs (2
earned) in 6 innings. Tamez came on for 2 scoreless as well.

9/25 - Nevada at Oregon - 9-0 Win. Another big 2nd game for us. Ray Festa broke a slump with 2 hits including
a 2-run 1st inning homer. 2 more hits for DiBen, and his 28th steal. Spike Halpern had FOUR hits and 2
RBI. Lott and Moncayo also registered 2 hits. Foxworth pitched a 6-hitter for his 3rd shutout on the
season. He is now 7-6 with a 3.61 ERA. He struck out 1 and walked 1. Mike Doctor left the game in the
3rd with an injury.

9/26 - Nevada at Oregon - 10-4 Loss. OUch, 9-run 5th inning blows us away, negating our 3-0 lead at the time.
Rudolph (7 ER) and Stier (2) were the victims. Rudolph is now 8-12, not rotation material past this
season. We actually had 10 hits, including 2 each from Moncayo, Hagberg (of all people), Foland and
Alex Garza (starting for Doctor). 8 walks too (2 by Hagberg, Salazar and Lott). 4 steals as well, 2 by
Foland (23 now) and Rey M. took his 26th.

9/27 - California at Nevada - 4-3 win in 11. Phew, big WIN! 2-2 in the 11th until they got one off of
Hollenbeck in the top, only to have Lott tie it with his 28th homer with 1 out in the bottom half. DiBen
followed with a single (his 4th hit) was out on a force by Doctor. With 2 out we got back to back singles
by Spike Halpern and Hagberg to take the game! Rey Moncayo left the game in the 7th with a hurt shoulder.
Hollenbeck got the win, his 2nd against 6 losses while Quintana pitched 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs

9/28 - California at Nevada - 7-2 Win. There we go, 2 in a row! we peppered them with single runs in the
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th and broke out for 2 in the 7th for the W. 12 hits and 6 walks. Foland hit his
17th Homer, and had 4 total hits, a steal and 2 runs/RBI. Estrada and Halpern had 2 singles while Thiessen
added 2 doubles. He is up to a .238 average and has won the 2012 starting job barring any unforseen
changes. Leonos picked up his 12th win, allowing 2 unearned runs in 6 innings striking out 4.

9/29 - California at Nevada - 6-2 Win. Sweep! 13 more hits. DiBen has 3 and his 27th Homer. Foland also
3, his 18th homer and 25th steal. Moncayo comes off the bench for a 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th. He even
stole 2nd (his 27th). Festa and Lott added 2 hits too. Miguel Cordova improves to 11-5 going 6.2
for the win.

9/30 - Washington at Nevada - 3-1 Win. 4 in a row and 7 of 10 on the sim. We're in the hunt for .500!
Chris Lott his a big 2-run 6th inning homer, his 29th. He's up to 97 RBIs. Festa added the other RBI.
Mean Gene Foxworth pitched 7 scoreless (16 on the sim) for his 7th win. His ERA is now down to 3.42. He even
K'd 5. In his last 8 starts, he is 4-2 and hasn't pitched less than 7 innings with 2 shutouts. His ERA
in that span is just 1.56! Not bad for a guy who should be in the NBA (he is 6'10").

guys stacked up against the leaders.

The staff continues to come together, I think we're 1 starter and 1-2 relievers away from being solid.
That 1 starter may need to be an ace though. I think Ace-Herron-Foxworthy-Leonos-Cordova would stack
up well.

Batting AVG: .243 (9th)

Back up to 4th in runs, very nice, and we upped a spot in steals and from 12th to 9th in average.
Pitching stayed the same...the bottom.

SCHEDULE
10/1 Washington @ Nevada - Nevada leads season series 10-5
10/2 Washington @ Nevada
10/3 Washington @ Nevada

2 and 1. Here we go.

We actually won the season series against 4 of the 5 other Western teams, we just really ate it against
Illinois (2-10), Minnesota and Wisconsin (4-8 vs each). We were an even 18-18 against the 2 teams that
beat us in the West (10-8 vs Utah and 8-10 vs Colorado).

Sim Recap 10/1 - 10/3

Sim Recap 10/1 - 10/3

10/1 Washington at Nevada - 8-7 Win! What a game. After leading 5-1 after 5 innings, we proceeded to
cough up the lead, and entered the bottom of the 8th down 7-5. Spike Halpern plated a run in the 8th,
and in the bottom of the 9th, we notched 4 singles and 2 walks to get the tying and winning runs.
Festa, Halpern and Doctor each drove in 2. Festa's on a 2-run 3rd inning homer, his 15th. Moncayo,
DiBen, Lott, Doctor and Halpern each had 2 singles, while Lott also walked twice. Rudolph went 6 innings,
allowing 2 earned runs, but Tamez and Stoops each allowed 2 runs. Barker came in for the win after shutting
down the 9th.

10/2 Washington at Nevada - 2-1 Loss in 10 innings. Heartbreak. With a chance to clinch .500, we blew it,
managing just 6 hits in 34 ABs. Thiessen drove in the lone run, he's really swinging the bat well.
Quintana had the tough luck, going 7 strong, allowing 1 run, though he did walk 6. His ERA has dipped
to just 2.98. Hollenbeck takes the loss, his 7th. Former Dragon prospect David Melgoza tore us up for
3 hits.

10/3 Washington at Nevada - 5-4 WIN! A barnburner to end the season! We traded runs in the first inning,
but the Griffins plated 2 in the 2nd and another in the 6th. All was looking lost until we stepped to
the plate in the bottom of the 8th. Alex Garza led off with a solid single in his final career at-bat.
It was his 2nd single of the game. Byron Thiessen then came to the dish and hit a grounder with eyes
to put runners on the corners with no one out. After a walk to pinch-hitter Moncayo, the bags were loaded
and the tying run at the plate. Up stepped 2B Albert Estrada, the savvy 36-year-old backup 2B, looking
to go out on a high note. Griffins reliever Ogu Yahei sits him down. 1 away. Next, September GE
Batter of the Month, Clarence DiBenedetto, pinch hits for Ray Festa. Pop up foul territory. 2-down.
It's all up to SS Chris Lott, much maligned all season. GONE. Grand Slam. 30th Homer for Lott. 101 RBIs
on the season. 5-4 Dragons!

In comes Herman Trottier, owner of 35 saves to shut the door. 2-0 count to pinch hitter Paul Thomas,
grounder to 2nd. Uh-oh Trottier is holding his shoulder, this looks bad. Trottier is going to have to
leave the game. In comes former closer and owner of a 2-7 record with a 5.40 ERA Bobby Hollenbeck.
Bam, 4 pitches, all strikes, 2 batters out and the game is ours. 81-81!

SCHEDULE

2012! I'll still finish all the recaps, plus a season wrap up and of course draft stuff.

For now though, anyone have any tips? I see I have a few loyal readers, I think. Anyone care to impart
some wisdom on how I can take this 81-81 team and push forward 10-12 games and into the postseason?

Comments: Cepeda is a standard Dragon minor league vet. He tears up the minors and can't hit in the bigs.
46 dingers in AAA in 2009 is impressive, and he even hit 2 in September for the Dragons. Of course he
followed that up with a 13 for 82 season off the bench. He's a heckuva defender though.

Comments: James is kinda frustrating. I would think he would perform better. Since I took over the team
though, he's been horrid, so he hasn't been in the bigs the last half of the year. I am re-thinking,
and he'll have an excellent shot at a bench job in 2012 though. If he can replicate 2007-2009 I'll be
very happy.

Comments: Christopher is also frsutrating. He hits for average and has great speed, but that's it.
He doesn't walk, he strikes out a ton and has next to no power. He'll also be in the mix for a bench
spot.

Comments: Blair is basically our only true prospect. At 20 he has a chance to be a future starter. Great
speed (26/28 in steals). We traded up to pick 5th last year, moving from 12th and are very happy with
this pick out of a weak draft class. I think if Blair can produce .260/10HR/302B/30SB's he'll have a spot
with the Dragons for a long time.

Comments: Chad is ok. He may be a bench guy towards the end of the decade. He'll get a shot in double-A
next season, to see if he is ready to produce there.

Comments: Jose was supposed to be a big gun for us in 2011, but it didn't really happen. Though
his record was still on par, his H/9 spiked up to over 9.00. He'll be a big part of the next 2 years
but after that I can't imagine him being too effective.

Comments: Gene has had a nice long career so far, punctuated by 2 fantastic years for us. He really came
on strong in 2011 and posted 3 shutouts (2 in September). He needs to harness his pitches, but he's one
of the better ones we have. He'll be in the rotation in 2012 but age will be a factor soon.

Comments: Cordova has been very solid since he came to the Dragons, and looks to have a spot in next
seasons rotation. A good ERA, a low WHIP and winning half of your starts tends to do that. Plus,
he sadly is one of the few SP's I have who can strike a hitter out.

Comments: Herron has pitched well in the bigs, but just hasn't had a real big shot. This past season
was really only his 2nd shot in a rotation, and he pitched well. His age is a concern, plus coming off
of injury might make it harder. He'll open 2012 in the rotation, but come May, he'll have a short leash
if the production isn't there

Comments: Ramon is an interesting pitcher. He's very hard to hit, but walks WAY too many guys. Like
2 per 3 innings bad. He is a former 20-game winner, and pitched well last season. He is on shaky ground
but has a good shot at the 5th slot in the rotation.

Current Impact: 4 out of 10
Future Impact: 1 out of 10

The Dragons made their first deal of the 2012 season, with the Amateur Draft approaching tomorrow. We sent out 1st Rounder (12th overall) and OF Christopher Francis to Massachusetts for their 1st overall pick (4th overall).

Opinions anyone? We've identified basically 5 key players in the draft, and this move to get one (at minimal expense - Francis was at best our 4th OF) should be big for us.

We do like some mid-to-late 1st round prospects, and are working to acquire additional picks. As it stands after selecting 4th, our next pick would be 36th (12th in round 2).

More pre-draft deals before the recap:

We sent our top-rated prospect SS Casey Wabash and our 3rd round pick (60th) to Virginia for Virginia's 2nd rounder (#29), 3rd Rounder (#53) and SP Oscar Meryman.

While we hate to lose Wabash, he was 24 and still struggling in Single-A (sub .650 OPS). The picks will help us get depth for when our current folks retire. Meryman is in a similar boat to Wabash. Not nearly the potential, but at 23 he's facing a make-or-break year.

We also send our 2nd rated prospect, Alfonzo Saguaro to Minnesota for the 14th pick. Again, we hate to lose Saguaro, but past management brought him up early and stalled his development. He only had 2 Stuff (with 7 potential) at age 23, having been in the minors for 4 seasons.

DRAFT RECAP:

Heading into the draft we had really improved our pick selection. We went from picking 12 in each of the 4 rounds (12, 36, 60, 84) to picking at 4, 14, 29, 36, 53, 84.

Personally, I felt we traded away a 4th OF, who may or may not have had a future starting role with us, and 2 marginal prospects (Wabash and Saguaro). I don't think both of them would be successful, at most one would be a starting-level player in my mind, and that is iffy.

We really targeted a catcher (rated like Pudge), but knew we couldn't get him at #4. We pressed hard to get him, but in the end, he went the pick before us to Virginia. We tried to get to both #2 and #3 spots to no avail. At one point, I was offering my #14 and next years #1 (and #2 if that pick was higher than 13) next season. All in all, since the big question mark on that players was he is prone to injuries, it didn't happen. Here is what did:

#4 pick: This was a tough one. After further inspection of the draft, it became clear there were 3 prime players, the catcher and 2 2B's. At #4, we needed a break, that never came. We were left to choose between the 2nd best catcher, an iffy OF and 3 equal caliber SP's. In the end, we went with the catcher. He's 19 and ticketed to be a starter. I dind't feel any of the other 4 were sure starters and since catching across the league was weak, we reached for him. Introducing...

Shumei "Ace" Rosanjin. DOB 2/18/93, Lefty hitter, righty thrower.
Contact Talent: 7
Gap: 7
Power: 6
Eye: 3
K's: 7
6 arm at catcher, PLUS he plays 3B with an 8 arm.

The 3B was a big factor for me, as Spike Halpern plays 2B, so if another catcher came along, I could move each of them over and get the catcher. This would of course be after Moncayo retires. Rosanjin is now the top rated prospect in our system,

We were in another spot at 14, with the 4 previous guys I was looking at all taken. It came down to another bat vs a starting pitcher. The SP would have been another reach, so we grabbed a very surprising guy, a Right Fielder to pair with Blair Payton (4th overall from last season).

James "Breaker" Aikin. 22 years old, 6'4" 225 Lbs, Lefty. 6/5/89 DOB
Contact: 7
Gap: 7
Power: 6
Eye: 4
K's: 7
Decent speed, good arm, iffy on D.

We're really happy with this one, and got some kudos in the chat room. I think Aikin will be our starting RF by 2016 at the latest. He's fairly developed, and will start in AA.

From here, we went for best player availible, so we landed on a 3B. Meet Kouhachirou Bunrakuken - We'll call him Koko. He's a tall lanky guy with a decent stick, solid wheels, solid glove and cannon arm (10).

Contact - 5
Gap - 7
Power - 5
Eye - 3
K's - 5
6/7/7 running

He's just 18, so he'll take some time to develop, but should be a capable bench guy for us down the line, and possibly even surprise us.

With the 36th pick, we got creative, selecting MR Trinadad Zimmerman. Zims has solid ratings, but the real reason I took him was because he has 4 EN, so he could have a chance at being converted to a starter. Plus, he is 17 so there is no rush to get it done quickly.

Stuff: 5
Control: 7
Movement: 8
61% groundballs
88-91 Velocity.

Our 3rd round pick was another project, no decent hitters remained (I think at this point they all had 4 contact talent) so we got another project, MR Juan Dovando, 21 out of the Dominican. He has the same 4 EN that Zims has, and a high GB% (59).
Stuff: 6
Control: 5
Movement: 7
Velocity 86-89

The computer picked an LF named Mike Evan in the 4th round. He's only 18, but with 4/4/3/4/5 ratings, he doesn't have a great chance.

Good luck this year!

I think you had a pretty successful draft. You're definitely building for the future, and yet you have a team that can compete this year (avoiding any hiccups). The competition might be a little stiff - I think the Idaho club (formery Connecticut) is better than Oregon (now Maine) was. But, Utah and Colorado will have to deal with them as well.

Well, I didn't get a chance for a pre-season run-down before we started, but I will get to that.

For now, here is how the first sim of 2012 went down

4/5: Colorado @ Nevada - 5-4 WIN. Close come-from-behind win for us to open the season. SP Jose Leonos
dished up 2 quick runs to the Rams in the 1st, but we struck right back as Moncayo tripled to leadoff,
followed by an RBI Single from Halpern and a run-scoring double from DiBen. DiBen added a 2nd RBI double
in the 3rd, but Leonos again coughed up the lead, allowing runs in the 4th and 5th, leaving the game
after 4.2 innings. Pinch-hitting vet Albert Estrada singled to scored Chris Lott who had walked in the
6th inning, to tie the game at 4. It stayed that way until the 9th, when Moncayo tied the GE record
with his 2nd triple, again to leadoff. The game was over in a flash as Spike Halpen again singled him
in. Halpern was named POG and Trottier who shut down the Rams in their half of the 9th picked up the
Win.

4/6: Colorado @ Nevada - 9-4 Loss. This one hurts. So we're 1-0, cruising along. We pick up a run in the
2nd, 2 in the 6th and another in the 8th. Festa has a single and 2 doubles, even Thiessen has 3 hits.
Quintana is sailing through the first 8 innings, no runs, like 3-4 hits, 1-2 walks. We're good right?
RIGHT?!?!? Total Meltdown (TM). Quintana allows the first 4 Rams to get on in the 9th. Stier comes in,
gets his 1 hitter out. So now, we're still up 4-3 and Trottier comes in. Grounder to Festa, he blows it.
3 htis and 2 walks later, we've switched to Stoops and allow a 9 to get dropped on us. Very bad 2nd game.

4/7: Colorado @ Nevada - 7-3 Loss. We just didn't have it. We had a quick lead on Foland's 2-out RBI
double in the first, but Foxworth coughed that up plus a run in the 2nd. We strike back on back-to-back
doubles from Thiessen and Lape. 2-2. Foxworth then allows a run in the 4th and 2 in the 6th, knocking
him out. Lott homers in the 6th and we're down just 5-3, but we couldn't pull it off. Stier comes in
and allows 2 in the 9th and we fall to 1-2.

4/8: OFF

4/9: California @ Nevada - 10-9 Loss. We just got our reservation at the Heartbreak Hotel. Everything
that could've gone wrong did early on, and we still COULD'VE won. Cordova gives up 3 before we even get
to the batters box. Then we get them back after a 2-run Moncayo double and a single to score him. Then
2 more from Cordova in the 3rd. Now he's out of the game. Then Herman Tucker comes in and allows a run.
So it's 6-3. Then Jimmy Barker comes in, gives up a run and gets hurt for 6 weeks. 7-3. But THEN DiBen
hits a 3-run dinger and Thiessen singles in a run and we're back to 7-7. But then Stier and Stoops
come in and the D goes down the tube (3 errors) and we're down 10-7. This is followed by a 2-run Spike
Halpern homer, 10-9! Then nothing. Ouch.

4/10: California @ Nevada - 9-6 Win. Back on track, though Herron gets torched for 6 ER in 4.1 IP. Tucker
pitches 1.2 strong for the W. Moncayo (3-run, #1), Halpern (solo, #2) and Lape (2-run, #1) along
with 3 steals kick start the offense. Trottier comes in and strikes out the side for his first save
of the season, as the pen goes 4.2 IP, allows 2 hits, no walks and strikes out 5. Total Jekyl and Hyde
team this year.

Utah 1 4 .200 3.0 1-4
Ick. 2 back already. Idaho, was Connecticut last season, came over from the FF North where they won
90+ games and MISSED the playoffs. So yeah, things aren't looking so hot for "Your Nevada Dragons" -
a.k.a. 'YND'(TM).

Well our O is pretty solid actually. Moncayo is playing like a man possessed, again. Halpern! Could
he be breaking through? DiBen doesn't have showy numbers, but was big. Lott still stinks, Foland has
lost the magic touch, Festa hits singles, walks and makes errors. Thiessen? Who is this guy? Sure, I
actually draft a catcher 4th overall, and then he goes and hits .500 for a sim. Lape was actually
pretty solid, much better than a dilapidated (sp?) Mike Doctor like last year.

of 6 innings or longer (and we still lost that game). Our closer has already come into 4 games, but we've
got just 2 wins. There is bad, there is mold on your bagel bad, and then there is the pitching staff of
YND.

That's right, we're scoring 6 runs a game and have a losing record. Who knew Nevada had the thin-Colorado
air? I love the 1st in walks line for the O though. What's worse though, is we only allowed 2 dingers?
We're this bad and it's not even from HOMERUNS! We're so totally hosed.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
4/11 - California Lions @ Nevada (series tied 1-1)
4/12 - Nevada @ Washington Griffins (Haven't played)
4/13 - Nevada @ Washington Griffins
4/14 - Nevada @ Idaho Spuds (Haven't played)
4/15 - Nevada @ Idaho Spuds
4/16 - Nevada @ Utah Scorpions (Haven't played)
4/17 - Nevada @ Utah Scorpions
4/18 - Nevada @ Utah Scorpions
4/19 - New Mexico Dukes @ Nevada (Haven't played)
4/20 - New Mexico Dukes @ Nevada

10 big games, I'd love to see a 6-4 sim. That would make me a happy person.

On the bright side, Utah is probably the favorite to win your division, and you're a game ahead of them...

So you are saying I'm going to fall even further!!!

I love being pessimistic with this team. That way when they appear to do something half-way decent (like squeaking out the first game) I am overjoyed, as opposed to being optimistic and turning suicidal when they play like a bunch of numbskulls (ala allowing 9 runs in the 9th to blow a 4-0 lead).

Nevada swings a deal!

Needing desperately to improve the staff, we swung a deal with the Washington Griffins this afternoon. We'll be sending SP Jason Grolsch (iffy guy who has had a cup of coffee and pitches ok in AAA) and our 2nd and 3rd round picks to Washington for SP Brandon Coto.

Coto, 32, is a former Rookie of the Year (2004) with New York and Golden Glove winner (2005). He lost favor with Barons management in 2007 after pitching like crazy for them. He spent the next 3 seasons in AAA, pitching very well before being dealt to Washington before Opening Day 2011. In Washington, he didn't struggle, so much as he didn't have much help. He went 3-17 in his first season there, though had a good 3.59 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He also K'd 100 hitters in 178 innings, very good for this league.

He'll plug into Richard Herron's spot, and Herron will be our new Grolsch (called up only as needed).

Well, I was away for a long weekend, so that caused me to miss recapping Friday's and Monday's sims.
To catch everyone up, we basically stayed around .500, heading into this sim at 16-16 (8-9 while
I was away). Here's the latest.

5/11 - Washington @ Nevada, 6-3 Loss. 16-17, 0-1, L2. Ouch. Foxworth allows 4 in the 1st and the Griffins
never looked back. We got as close as 4-3, but the kicked Foxy for 2 on his way out the door in the
7th to reach the end result. Foxworth falls to 4-3, his ERA now has climbed above 5. Lape paced the
offense with 3 hits, an RBI and a steal, while Foland added 2 hits. I've got Payton in there vsR now,
and Foland in vsL.

5/12 - Washington @ Nevada, 5-0 WIN. 17-17, 1-1, W1. Phew. Back on track as Cordova pitches a gem.
He went 7, allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and K'd 5 to go to 1-1. His ERA is now under 6, at 5.54. It was 2-0
for most of the game until Lape hit a solo HR in the 8th (#6) and Festa follows with a pinch-hit
2-run shot after a Hui single. In his first start, Blair Payton went 1-2, with 2 steals out of the 8th
spot in the lineup.

5/13 - Nevada @ Idaho, 4-2 Loss. 17-18, 1-2, L1. The division leaders ripped us in this one. New
acquisition Brandon Coto allowed 3 runs in the first, all unearned due to his own error. He left after
5 and fell to 0-6 though he only allowed 5 runners in 5 innings. We got 2 mercy runs in the 9th after
Festa hit a 2-run dinger (#8). Spike Halpern also had 2 hits.

5/14 - Nevada @ Idaho, 9-0 Loss. 17-19, 1-3, L2. It's getting pretty ugly here folks. We managed just
3 singles (DiBen, Lape, Hui) and 3 walks. Leonos gave up 5 runs, 4 earned in 5 innings to fall to 2-2.
We also made 2 errors which contributed to 4 additional unearned runs. The defense has really become
an issue. It is making our already bad pitching staff even worse.

5/15 - Nevada @ Idaho, 5-4 Loss. 17-20, 1-4, L3. Now we're just giving them away. We were up 4-0, but
allowed the games final 5 runs, 2 more of the unearned variety. Quintana admirably went the distance, but
fell to 4-2. Foland also got hurt (D2D), though not before a solo HR leading off the first (he spot
started for Moncayo at 2B). It was his 2nd HR. Ray Festa did it again, with a 2nd inning solo shot,
his 9th, and 3rd in 4 games.

5/16 - Nevada @ Idaho, 10-7 Loss. 17-21, 1-5, L4. I hate Idaho. Seriously. I'll never go there again.
This was a gut wrencher as our pen (well, Stier) just coughed up a 7-5 lead. Again, 3 errors lead
to 2 unearned runs (1 in the 1st and 1 in the 8th) which squander homers by Spike (#6) and DiBen (#6).
We only had 8 hits, but walked 10 times, led by Hui going 1-1 with 3 walks. Payton drove in the first
3 runs of his career. 2 on a double and one on a sac fly.

5/17 - Nevada @ Kansas, 11-10 Loss. 17-22. 1-6, L5. You have to be joking. Trottier takes his turn
blowing a game, turning a 10-8 9th inning lead into our 5th straight loss. Cordova allowed 6 ER in
5 (plus ANOTHER unearned run). Great offensive performance though. Spike had 3 hits and scored twice.
Festa had 3 hits and 5 ribbies, including a 2-run double and a 3-run homer (#10). Thiessen went 4 for 5
and drove in 2. Payton was 2-4 and drove in 2. Someday, we'll right this rig.

5/18 - Nevada @ Kansas, 3-1 Win. 18-22, 2-6, W1. A WIN! Hallelujah. It took a great outing from Coto
(4 hits, 1 Run, 6 IP) to get it, but I'll take it. Trottier bounced back and got save #9. DiBen and
Moncayo each drove in runs and stole a base (#13 for DiBen, 7 for Rey). Thiessen singles twice. We
had 15 runners and only 3 runs. Un-clutch.

5/19 - Nevada @ Kansas, 2-1 Loss. 18-23. 2-7, L1. Well, so much for that. 8 hits and just 1 run, which
came on a Trujillo 448 foot dinger (#2). Mel Hagberg of all people had 3 hits including a double with
a runner on. We wasted a great effort from Leonos - 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB. Another unearned run
for the bad guys. Tucker takes the loss, he's now 3-1.

5/20 - OFF DAY - THANK GOD.

Well, we've falled hard, but still are only 2.5 games out of the playoff hunt. Idaho looks tough. I
want Oregon back. Colorado and Utah were last years playoff teams, so we still have a ton of work to
do to pull this off.

The numbers are coming down a bit, and you can see why I benched Foland. His OPS is just barely over
.500. Payton hasn't been tons better, but he's got wheels and it's a good time to see what he can do.
Festa is the man, and Lott is friggin horrid. I don't get why he has fallen on such hard times.
Lape and Thiessen are battling hard for "Most surprising performance" of the year as Lape was in
AAA most of 2011 and Thiessen barely clung to a lineup spot. We're also hopefully seeing the Halpern
who is here to stay, but we need DiBen and Moncayo to get going.

Pretty bad. I count 45 unearned runs. We've only played 41 games. That is 1.1 per game we are GIVING to
the other team. It's killing us. I'll have to post tomorrow and analyze our D. Something seems odd. I
never noticed ratings that bad. Anyhow, let's hope Coto's last win was a sign of good things to come.
Barker comes back this week, I'll probably jettison Stier, and I'd love to grab another solid starter to
make it interesting.

Batting AVG: .252 (9th)
Homeruns: 46 (2nd)
Walks: 153 (1st)
Stolen Bases: 45 (4th)

Opponents AVG: .251 (14th)
HRs Allowed: 32 (T-10th)
Walks Allowed: 138 (T-21st)
Runs Allowed: 202 (21st)

Still the great offense (our walks are 10% more than any other team) and we're only 3 HR's behind 1st
for that. Our offense isn't even an advantage though, as 2 of the 3 teams ahead of me are in the GE West.
Probably, because I keep coughing up their runs. Same deal with the steals. Conversely, pitching wise
if you just look at the GE West, I should be ok. We're 21st overall, but 2 of the 3 teams worse than
us are in the division, and that's even going by total runs (so factoring in errors). I'm perplexed.

9 games, all at home, though we are just 5-10 there. I'm going to say we get back to over .500 sims,
and hit 5-4, though I really think we could do 6-3 if we stay focused.

The May Massacre

The title reflects the outcome, in more ways than one...

5/21 - Minnesota @ Nevada - 4-3 WIN (10). 19-23, 1-0, W1. Gutsy win by the boys in the opener of the sim.
It wasn't without penalty though, as starting pitcher Ramon Quintana is LOST FOR THE SEASON after
tearing his bicep on his 2nd pitch of the game. He had been our best starter to date, and finishes the
year 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA. At 35, he may end up losing effectiveness altogether. It's a big loss.

As far as the game, Festa got us ahead early with his 11th homer, a solo shot, in the 2nd. Minni then
battled back with 3 runs and the score was 3-1 heading into the bottom half of the 9th. DiBen scored a
1-out double to the gap and was followed by a walk to Lott and a wild pitch. James Lape then proved that
clutch is a state of mind with a big 2-run single to tie it up. Herman Tucker held em in the 10th and
when we came to bat, pinch hitter Big Melvin Hagberg hit a 1-out double. Moncayo then followed with a
big single to give us the win!

5/22 - Minnesota @ Nevada - 2-1 WIN. 20-23, 2-0, W2. Moncayo and Foxworth the stories here. Foxy held
Minni to just 1 run on 7 hits, going the distance to improve to 5-3 while Moncayo had 4 of our 5 hits
including a homerun and a steal. He scored our 1st run after a single from DiBen. Aside from him,
the rest of the offense was 1-23 with 1 walk.

5/23 - Minnesota @ Nevada - 7-3 Loss. 20-24, 2-1, L1. Rough one as we fell behind 6-0 quickly thanks
to 3 more unearned runs. Cordova couldn't get out of the 4th and falls to 1-2. His ERA is now 6.26.
Offensively, we got just 3 hits, though 2 were homers from Lott (#7) and Payton (#1 of his career).
Thiessen also had a sac fly, scoring Festa, who had doubled leading off the 9th.

5/24 - OFF DAY

5/25 - Texas @ Nevada - 3-2 WIN (10). 21-24, 3-1, W1. Close win again for us. After Texas got one
in the 2nd, we countered with 2 in the bottom half on Lott's leadoff walk, Festa's double made it
runners at 2nd and 3rd. Lape then singled home Lott and Thiesen had a sac fly to bring Festa home.
Texas tied it in the 3rd and it stayed 2-2 until the bottom of the 10th when Moncayo, Halpern and DiBen
strung together 3 straight 2-out singles to bring home another extra innning win.

5/26 - Texas @ Nevada - 9-1 Loss. 21-25, 3-2, L1. Ouch. Totally blown out as Herron, called up to take
Quintana's place gets killed for 5 runs in 2.2 innings. He allowed 4 hits, walked 5 and struck out
no one. Just 5 hits and 5 walks offensively, as the lone run came on Payton's sac fly in the 9th. To make
matters worse, Thiessen left in the 9th after being hit by a pitch. He'll be out for the next 4 weeks.
We've called up former backup Joaquin Salazar in his place. Hui will start vsR and L now.

5/27 - Texas @ Nevada - 4-0 Win. 22-25, 4-2, W1. Excellent win for the good guys. Leonos pitches 6
strong innings, we needed that from him. He's now 3-2 and better yet, his ERA is just 2.58. On offense
we got 2 in the first on singles from Moncayo, DiBen, Halpern and Lott. We also got 2 in the 2nd
on a big 2-run, 2-out homer from Moncayo, his 7th on the year.

5/28 - New Mexico @ Nevada - 8-4 Loss. 22-26, 4-3, L1. Fell behind 8-0 after 3 and out late comeback
(4 runs in the last 3 innings) wasn't enough. 4 errors in the first 2 innings led to 6 unearned runs
which doomed us. Foxworth got the loss, he's now 5-4. Lott hit his 8th homer in the 7th and newly
called up C Salazar hit his 1st dinger in the 8th. Lape and Hui added RBI's in the 9th but it wasn't
enough.

5/29 - New Mexico @ Nevada - 8-7 Loss. 22-27, 4-4, L2. Back and forth game where the last break went
to the Dukes. We trailed 2-0 and 6-4, but also led 4-2 and 7-6. We even had 12 hits and 9 walks but
just couldn't make it happen as we had no baserunners the last 2 innings after we fell behind again.
Tucker takes the loss (4-2) after allowing the tying and winning runs, though Cordova allowed 5 ER in
4.2 IP. At the dish, Moncayo had 3 hits with a double, 2 runs and a steal while DiBen had 2 hits and
drove in 3. Hui even added 2 hits and Lott had 2 hits and 3 walks.

5/30 - New Mexico @ Nevada - 12-2 WIN. 23-27, 5-4, W1. Avoid the sweep in a big way, but at a price.
Brandon Coto pitched the first 2 innings, but left with injury and will be gone for 4 weeks. Mo Tamez
came in and picked up the W as he, Trottier and Stoops shut out the Dukes over 7 innings. DiBen led the
explosion with 3 hits and 4 RBIs, including his 7th homer and 17th steal. Halpern had 2 hits while
Festa, Hui and Tamez drove in 2 apiece. Every player had a hit but Coto and Trottier, while
every position player scored.

5/31 - Wisconsin @ Nevada - 8-5 Loss. 23-28, 5-5, L1. A 4-run 9th wasn't enough to erase an 8-1
defecit as we end this sim even. Herron took another loss, he is now 0-3 with a 8.86 ERA. Stoops allowed
3 runs in 3 innings, walking 6 to save a tired pen. Lott hit his 9th homer while Lape and Foland added
2 hits.

leagues! Sweet.

That was rough - every time the game paused in seemed like Nevada lost another player.
