Edit: Oh ya, I recall bitching about this and Markus graciously added it in to one of the patches, or said he would. Hmm - maybe I'm just blind. Self-p\/\nage there...

And BABIP is pretty easy to calculate, though it would be nice, I guess, to be able to sort by it.

As far as what I was refering to: I meant a catcher's ability to "gel" with a certain pitcher. Like you said, not a vital feature, but one that could be worked in to give the GM added strategic power. Give a rookie pitcher a slight boost to his control if his battery mate is a seasoned veteran. |

I think for PbP, the idea of having a rating for every type of pitch is a good idea, but there would be no need to have a rating for stuff/control/movement for each pitch. One, that would be a lot harder to program I would think, and would be unnessecary. Then what good would the pitcher's main ratings be? I would suggest simply having a single rating for how good a pitch is and then use this as a multiplier to the pitcher's base ratings. As far as having ratings for how well a player hits certain types of pitches...this is also something I think is a little redundant. This could simply be accomplished by taking the batter's 'eye' rating and his contact and avoid k's ratings, which are already a part of the game, versus the pitcher's ability with whatever pitch he throws.
I personally LOVED the manage only mode of the Sammy Sosa version of High Heat Baseball, which was a pitch by pitch simulation. You could call for all kinds of plays each pitch...even the good ol' butcher boy play. You could also try and "guess the pitch" which would give your batter a slight bonus if you guessed right, as if the player were sitting on it. Would love if this were all integrated into OOTP. |
