Brook Berringer (QB) was projected in the second or third round but was tragically killed in a plane crash three days before the draft. Terrell Farley (LB) was an absolute freak, but he was also a total dumbass who got in trouble with the law and ruined his NFL potential. Tommie Frazier (QB) may have been the best option quarterback in the history of college football.

That's a very impressive team, but the 2001 'Canes may have just as many successful NFL players (thought it's harder to judge since most are still young and unproven).

Yeah, time will tell how many of them have good careers. At any rate, I don't think there's actually one "best team ever." The 95 Huskers were awesome, and so were the 01 Canes, and there was an unscored-upon Tennessee team from the 30s that a lot of older people consider the best ever. Nevertheless, it's a fun debate.

Are the '95 Huskers even better than the '71 Huskers? Scored something like 40 points a game and gave up about a touchdown per game. The '74 Sooners (Switzer's first title) led by the Selmon brothers on defense were outstanding as well.

Oh I know the drubbing of Florida, and they may very well have been a better team. Just know the '71 squad had to beat the #2 team twice and did it. Certainly up for debate, of course.

Right, and admittedly I was nowhere near alive in 1971. But here in Nebraska the consensus would seem to be that 1995 was the more dominant year.

Sad side note: The only game DVD I own is the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, and I've had to watch it more and more lately to remind myself that we used to be good.

'71 was before my time as well...just knew a bit of the debate (used to play an old Sports Illustrated college football game with my older brother all the time so I knew a bit of history). I had no idea you were in Nebraska...they sure as hell would know better than me.
