Fair enough. However that doesn't mean it isn't as, or more, annoying than the behavior you speak of...

I've yet to met someone who doesn't think I am annoying.

I disagree. It depends on the day and perhaps the reason.

Back was I unhappily employed if I didn't show...I wouldn't get paid and if I made a habit of it i'd lose my job. Sosa's punishment seems very fair and I wouldn't even consider it a fine.

in my opinion its a non-issue. A sammy by all accounts seems to be a pretty good guy. He was playing hurt and didn't want to play the last game that ment nothings. Jason Dubois(sp) had a great day and got to show what he can do. Sounds like frustrations just getting the better of Sosa and baker.

It's definitely fair. He doesn't want to play, he shouldn't get paid. Plain and simple.

I haven't liked Sosa for a while. Probably ever since '98. The corked bat incident didn't help too much either. I think the league was way too easy on him with that.

Not exactly some companies are starting to adopt zero-tolerance rules on this sort of thing, one call out without a valid reason that can be documented and its your last day. Or it could just mean you were doing a pisspoor job and the company was looking for a reason to fire you.

Zero-tolerance rules on missing one day? What jobs?

And it's amazing how a dog dumb GM can't keep the Cubs at 67-95.

Especially since he plays the same position as an MVP candidate who plays through pain.

I don't think the fine is severe, either. Remember, Sosa didn't just take off early, he lied about when he left. Park security cameras showed him leaving 15 minutes after the game started, when Sosa claimed he left in the seventh inning.

Essentially, the guy's not getting paid for a day when he played hooky. As it should be. But I think the fine's severity is more tied to the fact that he lied about it.
