:b Entertaining, Informative, and will help others such as myself recreate historical replays. Deadballers were great. I think at least half of them were unruly. For example Cy Seymour tackled his team mate when he ignored his hold sign at third, the runner still managed to get up and score.
Not to mention all their off field fights. I have been reading SABR's baseball biography project, some very good stories in there.

1904 OFFSEASON
Wednesday, November 11th IN THE NEWS: Jimmy Collins signs a contract to manage the Pilgrims for three years. They will be called the Pilgrims, then the Red Sox during his tenure. The Highlanders trade St, Louis native Jack O'Connor to the Browns for Swede "Honest" John Anderson Tuesday, November 17th IN THE NEWS: Chicago Cubs SS Joe Tinker tells an interviewer that it is "impossible to fix" a ML baseball game. Saturday, December 12th IN THE NEWS: During the post-season City Series in Chicago, the Cubs veteran Jack Taylor is chided for losing three games to the White Stockings and Cubs president John Hart is convinced that gambling was involved. Taylor is traded to the St. Louis Cardinals with rookie C Larry McLean for pitcher Mike O'Neill and a righthander who was 13-22 in his first season, Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown. Continuing efforts to build a winner in New York, John McGraw acquires 34-year-old SS Bill Dahlen from Brooklyn in exchange for pitcher Jack Cronin and iron-fingered but runs streak record holder SS Charlie Babb. McGraw says this is the trade that makes the Giants into winners. Many cite his release of Algie McBride as criticism for this trade. Friday, December 18th IN THE NEWS: At the league meeting, Ban Johnson is reelected American League president and given a raise to $10,000. Also, the AL votes to allow coaches at 3B and 1B at all times: till now, only one coach was permitted except if there were two or more base runners. The AL also institutes the "foul strike" rule, used by the National League since 1901: a foul will be counted as a strike unless there are already two strikes. Sunday, December 20th IN THE NEWS: With 362 career wins, pitcher Kid Nichols signs as player/ manager of the Cardinals. In an unpopular trade in Boston and New York, the Pilgrims send Long Tom Hughes (14-20) to the Highlanders for lefty Jesse Tannehill. Boston fans speak up and state "Are we gonna ship ALL our good pitchers to NY from now on?" While NY fans are happy that Tannehill, 25-12 on the year but 5 of those losses in the heat of the pennant race, is gone....they object to Hughes and his 20 losses. Monday, January 4th IN THE NEWS: The Highlanders announce plans to play on Sundays at Ridgewood Park on Long Island, but the Brooklyn club objects. Sunday games are legal in Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, and Cincinnati. Friday, January 22nd IN THE NEWS: William H. Sunday, July 3rd
Cy Young pitches his 5th SHO of the year, and the 53rd of his career to get within 3 of Pud Galvin's record, but the real story is bad luck Frank Kitson. He PITCHES A PERFECT GAME into the 9th of the 0-0 game, when he proceeds to give up a 2 out triple to CF Bill Lange...then walks Parent, gives up a single to Jimmy Collins who extends his hit streak to 19, and then walks Freeman until retiring Herm McFarland...Young suts down the Crawfordless Tigers in the 9th...and Kitson loses a perfect game and the game 1-0. At St.Louis where records are usually made...Nap Lajoie goes 6-7 with 4 runs scored to set the AL Xtra innings hits in a game, last held by Boston's Candy LaChance last year with 5...and tying Bill Keister for hits in a game...with 6. Keister set the record in 1902 with Washington. This game is also the longest in AL and MLB history a 13 inning contest which lasts 6 hours Tuesday, July 5th John McGraw makes a BIG push for the pennant getting Addie Joss from Cleveland for Dummy Taylor and $5000. Joss will excel with Mathewson, who is out for the first two weeks. Weds, July 6th In Dummy Taylor's (10-6) 1st start for Cleveland. He gives up 5 runs, 2 earned...in beating 1st place NY 6-5. C Harry Bemis of Cleveland get s 3 rbis in the win. NY will start a slow decli adn Boston will make a push that will see them creep within 1 game of NY at the end of July Tuesday, July 7th To make matters worse for NY, like Chebro's injury last year, this year Wee Willie Keller (.323 36 rbis) is injured for 7 weeks, when he breaks his leg in a slide at 3rd. NY loses its 4 th straight getting swept by the Pale Hose. Roscoe Miller, a waive rpickup from the Giants, gets his 1st win for Chicagop (7-2) while Harry Howell falls to 14-5. Sunday, July 10th The Cubs send hard luck, no run support pitcher Clarence Currie to the Beaneaters for Ed Scott. What a difference a year makes for Reidy. bill was 18-19 with a 3.99 ERA his 1st year with Brooklyn. Sunday, July 17th Dummy Taylor in his 2nd start has to go against the mighty Cy Young, who scatters 4 hits in his 6 SHO, 54th of his career. Taylor pitches well, but loses 3-0 to the Pilgrims. Meanwhile, Addie Joss has the bad luck of facing Deacon Phillippe and the Pirates. Deacon wins his 19th of the year. Joss gives up 6 runs, but holds Honus Wagner to 0-5. The Pirates win 6-1. In a 14 Inning contest Pop Dillon sets a new single Extra-Inning Game NL-Record for Hits with 6! He ties Ginger Beaumont who set it in 1901. Honus Wagner holds the record also with 6 in a 9 inning game. St Louis wins it as Uncle Charlie Moran, the C, goes 3-4 with 3 rbis including the game winner. Saturday, July 23rd Wild Bill Donovan (11-11) pitches his best game in 3 years as he whitewashes the Pilgrims 1-0. Donovan scatters2 hits and 4 walks while strikig out 5. Brush say they have no intention of playing a post-season series with the American League champions. "The Giants will not play a post season series with the American League champions. Ban Johnson has not been on the level with me personally, and the American League management has been crooked more than once." says McGraw. "When we clinch the National League pennant, we'll be champions of the only real major league," Ban Johnson fires back, "No thoughtful patron of baseball can weigh seriously the wild vaporings of this discredited player who was canned from the American League." As the New York Highlanders battle for the AL pennant, local pressure mounts, but Brush, still angry over the inter-league peace treaty, and McGraw, who despises Ban Johnson, are adamant. Johnson is not worried as McGraw and his Giants are 5.5 behind the Pirates, who have stated they will defend their title. The Tigers purchase C Monte Beville from the Highlanders The Boston Pilgrims send infielder Bill O'Neill and cash to Washington for 11-year vet Kip Selbach. Selbach almost went to the Highlanders in early May, but the deal was nixed by then-new Washington manager Patsy Donovan. Addie Joss shutsout Jim St. Vrain and the Pirates 5-0 . The outcome will be viewed suspiciously because several local gamblers bet heavily on Brooklyn (Pittsburgh) before the game, but the real reason is Taylor and Jake Beckley's late night public drinking.
